MSNBC’s Chuck Todd: ‘Immigration Reform’ Will Get 80 to 90 votes in the Senate

After Tuesday night’s re-election victory for President Barack Obama, MSNBC’s Chuck Todd predicted that one of the president’s agenda items — one promise he never managed to fulfill in his first term — would breeze into law.

”Immigration reform,” he said, will get “80 to 90 votes in the Senate.” Since the election night results showed Republicans unable to attract Latino voters, he said, “Republicans will run, not walk, in trying to support that now.” On the Wednesday broadcast of MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown,” NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker said Obama’s victory speech in Chicago pointed to an immigration bargain.

The president, Welker, said, “laid out some of the other things he wanted to accomplish during his second term that he wasn’t able to accomplish during his first term. One of those things [was] immigration reform.”

“He of course got a lot of criticism from the Latino community for not bringing about immigration reform, not getting the DREAM Act passed. You heard him mention that last night. Latinos clearly played a big role in his re-election. So I think that is something we’ll see him dedicate a fair amount of time to.”

Chuck Todd you idiot.

My prediction: Obama will toss latinos under the bus.

If he didn't honor promises made prior to his first term when he planned to run for re-election, why should he start honoring them now?

Obama might do it. He’ll need them to vote for him in his Third Term.

He wants this! He was just waiting for ‘flexibility.’

Republicans would rush to reinforce the opposition?

Well, I guess it’s not for nothing that they’re called The Stupid Party.

I don’t see 80 or 90, but the key number is 60, to break a filibuster. I certainly CAN see 5 RINO Senators who’ll join with the Dems on this.

This will be part of the general attempt to read the 2012 loss as meaning “we were too conservative, we have to move even further to the center.” They’re already saying that. Yeah, we should go the Dole-McCain-Romney route, only more so.

Between Boehner and this nonsense, I’m wondering if the strategy is to let the libs have everything they want, and allow the country to just disintegrate under its own weight.

I just don’t get how anyone in the Republican party can believe that backing immigration reform will ingratiate them with the Latino set. They are dyed in the wool Democrats and will be for the next several decades at least.

I would usually agree with you on this, but there's a whole other side to this that nobody is talking about. The basic objective of "immigration reform" is to get millions of new residents into this country to prop up our sagging economy. They aren't just voters ... they're customers. That's why so many states have been falling all over themselves granting illegal immigrants all sorts of things that seem preposterous at first glance -- like driver's licenses, in-state college tuition, etc. They've been brought here to buy cars and get useless college educations ... just like most Americans!
