Time to reform the way electoral votes are allocated.
TOPICS: Government; News/Current Events; Politics/Elections; Your Opinion/Questions
KEYWORDS: elections; electorialcollege
I an NOT for goint to "one man, one vote" and letting the popular vote decide a presidential election. I think the founding fathers were wise to use an electorial college. In reality, per capita, under the current systeme, small state voters actually count more than those living in large states. However, I am stronger advocating reforming the allocation of votes in the electorial college. To start with, I believe that for every electorial vote that is given a state based upon a congressional district...that the candidate that gets that EV should be the one that got the most votes in THAT district. Winner take all should be ended, by constitutional ammmendment if necessary. The only EVs from a state that should go to the overall winner for a state should be the two that are tied to the U.S. Senators in each state. IF EVs were awarded by how each congressional district votes, then the chances of winning the popular vote but losing the election due to the EV allocation system would end. Also, by making votes to be allocated by district would keep the large state from so dominating the elections. Even California would have some votes go to the GOP candidate. This does not happen now. By making it such that EVERY state would have congressional districts that are conservative, it would force ALL states to be campaigned in and not taken for granted by either party. To summarize, keep the electoral college, but force ALL states to allocate their votes based upon congressional districts with the winner of each of these votes being the candidate that won in that district. This would help isolate the ghetto strongholds in major cities that always go for the Dem. Also, states like California would never go entirely for the liberal.

why worry about any election reform when we are backing a party of garbage???
lets reform the GOP first- then worry about other things...

You do not get it. It is over... obama has won and there will be no reform. There will be no House investigations... there will be no more Benghazi or Fast and Furious. Holder will still be overlord and obama is now untethered. There is no gop to reform. We will soon have three more ultra leftists on the SCOTUS and we will have 4 more years of despotic rule... life as we knew it is over. We are going to enter into a deep depression and the DOW will crash. obama will continue to spend and surrender and we cannot survive that... game over.

Is it too much to ask that you show a valid ID to vote? You can’t talk about “one man one vote” if that basic safeguard isn’t in place.

No. The problem is not the Electoral College. How about we stop running a moderate for Prez with a Conservative VP to tease the Conservstives?
I held my nose AGAIN in an apparent useless folley that just leaves me regretting not sending a message of “No More” to the GOP.
What will they “learn”? They needed to go more moderate and pander to the entitlement class even more.

I prefer the electoral college system over the popular vote. It decentralizes power. If you have a system based on population then the biggest states will always have too much control

Our elections are a corrupt joke and so is our government. This government is illegitimate... it is built upon lies and theft. 53% of Americans want it that way... they like failure and third world status... and they are going to live in the filth and poverty of their own making... and so are we all.

Allocation by congressional district. Then if a candidate gets 40% of the state’s total vote he or she gets one EV. If he or she gets 60% or more then he or she would be awarded both Senatorial EVs. Otherwise, the two candidates with the most votes each get one.

You apparently do not understand the constitution or the history of the US. There are good reasons for having the electoral college the way it is. You want a different system? Move to a country that suits your decision of the masses.

The only redeeming part of your plan is that states with only 3 electoral votes wouldn’t have to make any changes.

I think Romney did a good job—the LSM gave this to the DEMs. I think FOX did a horrible job tonite. Think they had enough Democrat commentators????? They paid little attention to the popular vote till Obama pulled ahead. (not that it matters). But popular vote is a bit of a morale booster. Just thank God that we control the house.
