Chilly, rainy forecast could affect voting (Wisconsin)

On election day in Wisconsin the political winds will be blowing from the south at 5 to 15 mph.

The forecast calls for a wintry mix of rain and snow in the south with an inch or more of snow in northern Wisconsin, leading to perhaps the chilliest election day in the Milwaukee area in more than three decades.

If surveys and recent historical data of presidential election turnouts are correct, the crummy weather may make Mitt Romney and other Republican candidates smile.

Surveys of voters show weather is often a factor in their decision to head to the polls. Republicans apparently are more hearty and willing to vote no matter the weather, while Democrats apparently are a bit wimpy when it comes to rain, cold and snow.

A poll by the Weather Channel in August indicated that 35% of undecided voters across the nation said bad weather would affect their ability to vote while 27% of registered Democrats and 20% of registered Republicans felt that way.

"If I was the Obama campaign I would be leasing every taxi tomorrow," said Mordecai Lee, a University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee professor of governmental affairs who served in the state Assembly and Senate as a Democrat.

“Republicans apparently are more hearty and willing to vote no matter the weather, while Democrats apparently are a bit wimpy when it comes to rain, cold and snow.”

If I knew how to do so, I’d post a picture of Gomer Pyle here saying, “surprise, surprise, surprise!”

Here’s a thought. It is hard enough for Obama to get a stadium or arena filled nowdays - even when his audience is PAID in some form or another.

NOW - today..in the rain...how many of these fine upstanding supporters are going to hitch up their pants and get out in the weather to vote for him when there isn’t an immediate government check put in their hands - today.

Weather is the Democrats’ enemy...

Weather is meaningless in early voting states.

Sounds like a motivation issue.

On the other hand, If I pulled for Obama and the day is nice and summer-like, I sure wouldn't want to waste it in a dingy polling place.

Indeed, sounds like a motivation issue.

Not really. Early voting in most cases is half or less of the total vote.

The RATS could easily lose 5-7% of their vote to bad weather.

Weather and Romney conspire to disenfranchise voters in Wisconsin.

Women, children, the working poor, minorities, the elderly and the working class hardest hit.

I would crawl through glass, walk on coals and even swim through slop to vote today! All I am facing is a little frost on the windows... but it's first time this year really, so hopefully the blind voters are curling up in their blankets thinking all is ok. Let's take this country back!

Early voting is also a wonderful incentive for democrats to cheat.

And how many democrats took advantage of progressive early voting and voted multiple times?

Only "swing" area with inclement weather I see. Shame a winter storm isn't hitting eastern Pa.

I don’t know if this holds true anymore; when you can convince 10% of your population that they will be enslaved by a Republican win, they might just suck it up and get cold/wet to avoid that.

Such is 1/2 of the Dem base; the other half work as the teachers, social workers, cops, etc. that “administer” the welfare reservations...

That I agree with.

They also need to ban ‘same day’ registrations. How the heck can they have time to check anything instantly?

Michigan now has some of the toughest voting laws in the country today and I think its why Michigan has moved so far to the right in just a few years. We even had a citizenship checkbox on our ballot application during the primaries but the democrats got a late injunction to have it removed a few weeks back.

I just think that voting should be strictly for the ambitious and slackers should be encouraged to go home and take a nap.

No one wants to hear your sour, negative crap! Go puke somewhere else.

Bad weather on election day does help our side.

I hope the liberals know that the cops will be cruising the polling places for outstanding warrants.

Lets help get that info out to the liberals as a ‘public service’.

I always read that poor weather effects Dems more than the Pubs. Dems can’t get voter ID’s, they can’t figure out butter-fly ballots, they can’t vote in bad weather. What the hell?
