Bush left a rancid taste in conservative mouths, enough to last through this election, and possibly the next.

He left the Republican party in ruins, and then allowed in more Muslims after 911 than the previous two decades, not to mention aiding and abetting tens of millions of illegals, who were totally embolden by his Mexican butt kissing pandering and open border policies...All during war time.

Explain again to me the Presidents power to spend?

His signature is on every budget from 2001-2008.

McCain knew he was going to lose. He chose Palin for two reasons because she is a conservative. To look good and because she is a conservative to set her up to be dumped on. It wouldn’t destroy old John’s career even though he is no conservative; but it would hers because she is.

That still conveniently leaves the house out of the equation. You appear to imply that all the blame hangs on Bush. Yes he signed the bills, yes he deserves part of the blame, but you are simply being disingenuous in laying all the blame on him.

Republicans throughout history have been vilified. Good old communism.

Good Lord, lonestar, you should be working as a spinmeister for Omaumau.

"He fought 2 wars successfully." Dayummm, what is your definition of success?

"He removed Charles Taylor." Well, he did say he needed to leave, but he did NOT remove him.

"Ended genocide of South Sudan." As part of an international effort, yes.

"Shifted oil imports from ME to north America." US oil imports in 2001=4.2 BBbl, in 2007 4.9 BBbl.

"Kept America safe." 3,000 ghosts in NYC may not agree with you.

"Prevented thousands of deaths during Katrina." Well, you got me there, I have NO idea what you are talking about.

"Stopped Saddam Hussein." Yup....then wasted precious blood and treasure 'Nation Building'.

"Brought the deficit down to 260 billion." US SURPLUS $314.8B in 2000, he left with $485B DEFICIT in 2008.

"Got unemployment down to 4.7." Last month in office it was 7.3.

"He saved GM and Chrysler and got that money back." You may be the first FReeper I've ever seen that approves with the bailouts.....and we will NEVER get that money back.

Hey, no doubt he is a much better guy than Obama, but you CANNOT call him a great president.

You despise how republicans do not defend him, but I have shown, through YOUR example, he is indefensible.

You’re right about the problems Bush inherited. He also inherited the “Wall” created by Clinton, Janet Reno and Jamie Gorelick, that didn’t allow communication between our intelligence and law enforcement communities — because those naive liberals amazingly believed in things like arresting Bin Laden and putting him on trial. They didn’t want to jeopardize the hypothetical trial. What a joke. That bizarre type of thinking is what allowed the planning and eventual terrorist event of 9-11. Bush had so much to put back together in intelligence, national security, etc., in the wake of a Clinton presidency that had committed treasonous crimes, such as trading nuclear missile technology to China for campaign money.

Never said he gets ALL the blame...’moderate’ Republicans trying to out-democrat the democrats share plenty of the that...but he did absolutely nothing to stop or slow the growth of government, and in fact he did plenty to grow it. ‘Compassionate’ conservatism was neither compassionate nor conservative. That was all his.

Actually, he threatened to veto any changes to his prescription drug boondoggle (more government).

I can’t imagine Miers, for all her pedestrianness, would have mucked up the Obamacare constitutionality question as bad as Roberts did.

“It’s going to take a number of years for the GOP to get out from under the unpopularity of George Bush and his failed presidency.”

Its going to take even longer if his idol worshippers, as evidenced by the sickening posts on this thread, keep wearing the rose colored glasses. Dumbo Dubya screwed this country up something fierce and made Obama possible. Period. The End. Only until folks on the right recognize that and repudiate him and what he stood for will things change.

Good point. It was a Republican House and a Republican Senate who passed Medicare Part D, No Child Left Behind, CFR, taxpayer $ for AIDS in Africa...

And probably right now, if former President George W. Bush were president, (and let’s say he were going for a second term), he would have his sleeves rolled up and would be helping the people of Sandy, INSTEAD of being on the campaign trail, because that would speak more to the people than him being on the campaign trail. Also, he wouldn’t be doing it for a photo opportunity, because many times he did acts of kindness without anyone knowing about it...surely the liberal media didn’t tell anyone about it. And the media accused him constantly. I am not sure why he didn’t stand up to that abuse, and am not sure why the Republican party didn’t do more to defend him, but I know that are country was in more capable hands than in the present government.

last Democrat to be elected to two terms since Harry S Truman

Harry Truman was elected once. He could have ran for a second full term but chose not to.

Economy under W. Bush was fine until the democrat socialists took over both the Senate and House due to the Nov., 2006 election.

Things were so fine we lost both Houses. Got it, thanks.

He lowered taxes across the board, created lower investment taxes.

You might recall that those cuts were temporary, he should have never agreed to that nonsense. He should have fired Tokyo Rove and ran as his own man, but he went after the (Nixon created) Hispanic vote.

Well Barry don't seem to have any problem handing out money all over the middle east. It is easier when you don't have a budget, but I will lay that at the feat of Boehner, who has already said that they will not repeal ObamaCare.
