Mitt Romneys Mormon beliefs are featured prominently in a pro-Obama voter guide being circulated to African-American churchgoers in the all-important Hampton Roads area of battleground Virginia, the latest reminder that the Republican presidential nominees faith could be an under-the-radar issue for some voters.
Romney would be the countrys first Mormon president, and although Americas most prominent evangelical leaders have overcome their theological concerns to enthusiastically back Romneys candidacy, some on the left continue to see his Mormon beliefs as a possible wedge issue.
The new brochure, produced by a coalition of black pastors in the Norfolk area, includes a side-by-side comparison of what it presents as the religious beliefs held by Romney and President Obama, who practices a more traditional form of Christianity.
The pastors behind the brochure, representing the Greater Hampton Roads Christian Leadership Conference, hope the comparison will motivate their parishioners to turn out and vote for Obama, even though many of them have expressed disappointment that Americas first black president decided to support same-sex marriage.
Youve got a president who may be what we call a back-slidden Christian at worst, but he is one who has accepted Christ as Lord and savior, said the Rev. Lin Hill, associate minister

Did it also cover black liberation theology as well?
I hope so, because all throughout his term, Obama’s liberation theology has been showing up in how he has been president. FWIW, liberation theology certainly isn’t moderate.
“......Obama, who practices a more traditional form of Christianity.”
Hogwash.....
Mitt Romneys Mormon beliefs are featured prominently in a Washington Post election eve news article, too.
Why would they feel a need to bother doing that? Why would they waste their time, since everybody knows that the black vote is 99.999999999999% going to Obama. Why would they waste their effort if that was the case?
Just consider that for a second.
Trying to see the good in people trying to motivate Obama voters....

I have NO use for Mormonism and it distresses me no end that Romney, the GOP candidate, is a devout Mormon. It concerns me.
HOWEVER, Mr. Obama has NO BUSINESS questioning someone’s Christianity when he is NOT REMOTELY Christian himself. Obama is part of his own “cult.”
I don’t want a Mormon as POTUS, but I DO NOT WANT four more years of OBAMA spitting on the Constitution.
So, I guess I will take my chance with the Mormon. Christian evangelicals WILL be able to snap him (Romney)in line IF he abuses the office as a forum to spread his Mormonisn. It won’t be tolerated. Romney will listen.
Obama listens to no one. I will take my chances with Romney....not ideal but certainly a vast improvement over Obama.
Romney won’t use the Presidency to promote his religion ...
however ....
Anti-Mormons have slandered the LDS religion for nearly 2 centures, what is likely to happen, is the same thing that happened to Obama’s carefully crafter narative of Romney during the debates .....
Romney didn’t conform
...nor will the 2 centuries of distortion naratives that anti-mormon zealotes have crafted stick ...
LDS people simply don’t conform to the distortion naratives and through Mitt Romney, the public will get a better view of a God fearing, Christ loving people and faith.
There are over a million racist blacks coming out to vote due to color and that is it.
They have non idea about the issue, trust me I questioned a family last week and they told me , well she old woman did, “I not want me food stamps cut”
The trouble is no one wants to admit that little dirty fact and black racists especially the media so they just keep saying get the vote out, voter suppression and intimidation
Bible... Koran... Bible... Koran...
Hmmmm...
Black Liberation Theology is NOT Christianity. It's less Christian than what the detractors say about Mormonism.
Why would they feel a need to bother doing that? Why would they waste their time, since everybody knows that the black vote is 99.999999999999% going to Obama. Why would they waste their effort if that was the case?
I don’t think this is for the election, so much as for the aftermath. Such as saying that just because Obama isn’t re-elected, it isn’t the end of the world. I mean, I do have the feeling that is a message worth giving for the sake of being prepared for the possibility of a Romney victory.
Black liberation theology is even less Christian that what the most demented distorted detractors say about Mormons.
God bless Rev. Billy Graham for taking out full page Sunday newspaper ads in newspapers across the country, including ours, to back Mitt Romney. I have hung that advertisement in our car window since and will keep it there until the polls close tomorrow.
Our voting precinct is an Evangelical megachurch staffed by nice people who keep a close watch on their parking lot and offer coffee and cookies to voters on the way out.
Believe me when I say I am plain out sick of all the Armageddon stories, period, I am sick of the left claiming that all the babies, old people, and poor people will die if they leave office, I am sick of the whole claim of climategeddon, used as a blanket excuse for bailing out corrupt businesses like Solyndra, while comdemning a measure that could significantly reduce many forms of air pollution called nuclear power. I am sick of the whole idea that Romney is some radical, pushed by a few libertarian hacks, and the left at large, that Romney is radical, if anything, I doubt he was scripted to be as calm as he was during the debates: that’s more or less how he is.
I don’t agree with his religion, and I don’t plan on joining it, but at the same time, all I can say is that I would prefer dealing with a moderate Romney as opposed to a narcissistic, hot-tempered, immature demagogue, called Barack Obama. FWIW, Romney would at least leave me well enough alone.
“
...nor will the 2 centuries of distortion naratives that anti-mormon zealotes have crafted stick ...”
If what you are talking about is comparisons, well here’s the catcher: I would prefer having a moderate and a church to disagree with as opposed to a politician named Obama who demands a church pay for what 1) it doesn’t condone, and 2) Shouldn’t have to pay for (contraceptives) because it’s already the job of medicaid to do so. Romney would likely leave well enough alone, and I would prefer that over Obama. Frankly, the ones who have tried preaching to my church the most in the recent years have been the leftists, and frankly, Romney more than likely knows where to be polite and not be preachy to other people. Pelosi, Reid, and Obama, not so much.
I would argue that Romney is a better politician to be around with at the campaign level than Obama. I don’t have to hear the condescending, preachy attitude, from him, like I have from Obama.
I haven’t been on board for him all along, but he’s earned my vote, and showed that he worked for it, so I’ll give it to him.
“Romney wont use the Presidency to promote his religion ...”
If he hasn’t really done it while under debate pressure, especially in the primaries, and against the rudeness of Obama, that’s incredibly unlikely that he will as president. He knows not to pull the religion card, and that’s commendable. I can see him not resorting to this like Obama has in numerous uncalled for ways regarding race.
“Black liberation theology is even less Christian that what the most demented distorted detractors say about Mormons.”
I have a hard time even considering liberation theology a religion so much as communist propaganda disguised as a religion. It takes a distorted idea of comparing communism to the charity encouraged by Jesus Christ, which is both wrong and disturbing. Christ asked for charity under our own will (heart & action) as opposed to forced charity.
I’ll take a Mormon over a muslim moron any day.
GREAT point.
I believe Mormonism is a cult, but it is impossible to know how much of Mormon theology Mitt actually believes. I have no reason to think Mitt will make any governmental decisions that favor Mormonism.
On the other hand, there is no doubt in my mind that Obama is a Muslim. No Christian has ever misspoken about his “Muslim faith”, nor made so many admiring statements about anything associated with Islam like Obama has.
I'm not so sure his is a devout Mormon, other than from abstaining from certain behaviors. He may or may not believe everything Mormonism teaches since many Mormons are unaware of some of the weird stuff. This statement applies to even Mormons in positions of great authority.
I know three former Mormon Bishops who left the church once they learned that is was all based on lies. For most Mormons, the church is hardly more than a social organization.
Very few Mormon missionaries ever convert someone and they mostly look at a mission as a duty to their family and look for ways to do the least amount of work possible.
Obama practices a more traditional form of Christianity? You mean the one where the preacher rails against the US of KKK and calls for God to DAMN America? Does this for 20 years without batting an eye?
Or you mean the one where you call yourself a Christian and don't even go to church on Easter and Christmas every year, let alone any other Sundays.
>> Hogwash.....
MALARKEY
Reggie Love, Larry Sinclair, Rahm Emanuel, Nick Colvin, Frank Marshall Davis, Kal Penn and Choir Director Donald Young. Back sliding?
Why doesn’t Barack bother to darken the door of ANY church in spite of the myriad possibilities has has?
Why doesn’t Barack bother to darken the door of ANY church in spite of the myriad possibilities he has?
Mitt may make choices that favor generic religious freedom, which would cover Mormons and many others in one swell foop.
“LDS people simply dont conform to the distortion naratives and through Mitt Romney, the public will get a better view of a God fearing, Christ loving people and faith.”
I will vote “Romney” because I’m voting AGAINST Obama...but that is as far as it goes. I am NOT voting for Romney. Romney is the only alternative to Obama at this point. Obama is just so terrible a POTUS that he had to be replaced...even a less than desirable Romney is an improvement.
Mormonism is FALSE/PHONEY/COUNTERFEIT Christianity of the worse sort. It is chocolate covered poison....a “almost” perfect deception. Looks like the real thing, but is deadly to the person that consumes it.
Mormon’s are not “Christ loving” anymore than Islamists or Hindus are. The “Christ” of Mormonisn is NOT the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible. You cannot love the REAL Lord Jesus Christ IF you do not believe in the REAL Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, Mormons DO NOT LOVE CHRIST...they love a FALSE version of Jesus Christ.
Joseph Smith was the 19th Century’s L. Ron Hubbard....a flim flam man of extreme proportion. Those that push Smith’s FALSE GOSPEL are stealth (and blindly unaware) servants of Satan...not God.
SO....KNOCK OFF THE MORMON PROPAGANDA. The thread is about DEFEATING OBAMA.
I am voting AGAINST OBAMA...I am NOT voting for Romney and certaining NOT his momonism. IF Romeney wins...he had best NOT attempt to use his office as a means to spread Mormonisn....he will get hammered by both the Christian Right like myself and the liberal left. IF he is a patriot, as he claims, he WILL stick to politics and keep his beliefs to himself. I do full well expect him to go with his values....that is to be expected...ALL of us do that.
We have to work together....that cannot occur IF Romney - or Mormons on this forum - start pushing Mormonisn. It will destroy any chance of getting real change done. He will be dead straight out of the gate.
How about the Koran & prayer rugs & being Muslim???
Hogwash is right, anyone with one eye open will no more believe that Obama is ANY KIND of Christian than he will believe that flying pigs are going to drop gold bricks down his chimney. The meme from the news media is that Obama is a Christian simply because he says so, well he also says that his ideas have worked to LOWER the deficit, that is equivalent to Michael Moore saying that he has become as skinny as Twiggy on his new diet.
“Ill take a Mormon over a muslim moron any day.”
//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
That would make a great title for a song by Charlie Daniels.
“Anti-Mormons have slandered the LDS religion for nearly 2 centures,”
Well, the Mormons have slandered Christianity for nearly 2 centuries. Do you think that nobody would return the favor?
Or Islamic conquest theology.
“Mormons are not Christ loving anymore than Islamists or Hindus are. The Christ of Mormonisn is NOT the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible. You cannot love the REAL Lord Jesus Christ IF you do not believe in the REAL Lord Jesus Christ. Thus, Mormons DO NOT LOVE CHRIST...they love a FALSE version of Jesus Christ.”
what particular Christian denomination do you belong to?
the mormons i know worship Jesus of Nazareth, born in Bethleham, who died on the cross to atone for mankind’s sins. just because mormons have different beliefs about the nature of the Trinity doesn’t mean that they don’t worship the same Jesus Christ that other Christians worship. it is their perception of the Trinity that is different. that doesn’t mean that they aren’t worshipping the same Christ as the rest of Christianity.
As a man, i am a father to my children, but a husband to my wife. in both instances i am still the same man, but am perceived by my respective family members by the different roles that i hold for each of them.
if i were a doctor, my patients would perceive me as their doctor. that wouldn’t make me less a a father or a husband.
one’s perceptions don’t change reality.
when color blind people look at green, red or blue they do not see the same as those who are not color blind, BUT that doesn’t mean that they aren’t looking at the same color. it’s the perception that is different, not the reality.
“just because mormons have different beliefs about the nature of the Trinity doesnt mean that they dont worship the same Jesus Christ that other Christians worship”
A correct understanding of the “Trinity” is CENTRAL to what is REAL Christianity. A correct understanding of the Trinity correctly defines who the Lord Jesus Christ is. Mormon do not correctly understand is Jesus Christ is...they don’t understand Jesus Christ....they don KNOW Jesus Christ. Their “Christ” is the warped delusion of a flim flam artist called Joseph Smith....followed by other as bad or worse than Smith...starting with Brigham Young.
Please stop bothering me with your blasphemy trying to make what is a PERVERSION of REAL CHRISTIANITY sound OK. You are dead (as in headed for Hell) wrong. You obviously are not acting on knowledge of scripture and sound theology...you are acting on emotion and having known a few Mormons. I have met really good people from ALL diferent religions...to include Muslims. They are all, like Mormons, dead wrong. Being “good” is NOT proof of anything, nor does it make one right with God. One CANNOT earn “salvation”....it is a gift of God contingent upon correct belief and faith in the REAL Lord Jesus Christ....not any other as the Mormon’s belive in.
Satan is all for “good” as long as it isn’t connnected to a correct understanding of and relationship with the REAL Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible.
Because the high percentage is only a percenatge of THOSE WHO VOTE. The effort therefore would be to get more voters.
