If it were up to me there would be no early voting and absentee voting would require a valid reason. There would be a media exclusion zone of 200 yards and no tallies could be reported until the polls closed in Hawaii.

After a bomb scare at a Winter Park early voting location, the Democratic Party of Florida says a judge has ordered four more hours at that location.

The Florida Democratic Party filed lawsuits seeking to get four counties to offer more time for voting before Election Day.

The lawsuit filed in Orange County asked for additional time because an early voting site in that county was shut down for several hours while authorities investigated a suspicious package on Saturday.

The judge has ordered that the Winter Park early voting site be opened for four hours on Sunday afternoon. No time has yet been announced.

The party has a separate federal lawsuit seeking more early voting time in Palm Beach, Miami-Dade and Broward counties. Those counties were dealing with waits of up to six hours on Saturday, the last scheduled day of early voting.

Gov. Rick Scott refused requests this week from Democrats to extend early voting earlier in the week.

There are thousands of voters who are more than 110 years old. They need a little more time to get to the polls. /s

ORLANDO —
A judge has ordered Orange County to open up early voting for four more hours today at one site.

The Florida Democratic Party filed a lawsuit in Orange County, asking for additional time after two suspicious devices closed the Winter Park Library, located at 460 E. New England Ave., for several hours Saturday.

The Winter Park Library will be open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. today for provisional ballots only, according to Orange County Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles. As a provisional ballot, the ballots will be sealed in envelopes and not inserted into voting machines.

They may also be reviewed by the Orange County Canvasssing Board after the resolution of any potential court challenges.

The Democratic Party is holding a press conference at 12:45 p.m.

Wow, can you give them a minute? This isnt like posting a Tweet.

I’m in Florida and we have pretty strict ID laws. You have to show picture ID and voter ID card, then sign on the line below your name in the voter’s register.

The ballot this year, in Florida, is ridiculously long, that’s why we chose to vote by mail (you can track your ballot online and make sure it arrived.)

Our ballot was 4 full pages, and there were 11 amendments that are long and tedious to read through. It took us 20 minutes, at home, to fill ours out and I had already studied the amendments so I knew what they meant.

I can’t imagine what the wait at the polls are, if people are really trying to understand the ballot.

Still, if you’re in line at 7PM when the poll closes, you are allowed to vote, so I don’t see what the extension’s necessary.

.. what is wrong with an absentee ballot?

What the HELL is wrong with having the voting process that hundreds of thousands of Americans have died to protect being deemed important enough to MAKE THE TIME to respect and support the amazing privilege ? !

Of course documented exceptions should be made for the sick, infirm, etc .. but we're well on the way to turning one of the very foundation stones of the Republic into so much farcical sand.

Ok.

So it’s just for this ONE location, and because of a suspicious package scare that disrupted 4 hours of the normal hours of operation?

If this is all then the panic and freak out club can relax a little.

I’m suspect the Democrats have a lot of “suspicious packages” held in reserve.

IMO, all this early voting does, is make it much easier to commit vote fraud.

One day. Twelve hours. End of story...

I don’t have a quarrel with absentee voting, but I would change it so every person who wants to do it, would have to re-register in person before each election they wanted to do it in.

What stops a person from moving out of state, and other people getting a hold of their absentee ballot, and voting for them? I’d tighten that up as much as I could too.

Voting is a very important civic duty. In too many places today, we’re treating it with the atmosphere of a three ring circus.

Cowles added that the Florida Republican Party is appealing the judge’s ruling, so all ballots cast today will be considered provisional pending the appeal.

Doesn’t this disenfranchise the voters in all the other counties? Is this even LEGAL with state laws? Federal jobs CANNOT demand that states abide by anything OTHER than their own laws - it is a STATE election.

We do have ID required down here. Have since I moved here about 10 years ago. Our governor actually did a nice job this year tightening up voting laws. Shortened early voting and cleaned up the voter rolls.

They will *not* go down without claiming Obama lost because of cheating, or some other mumbo-jumbo.

Actually ... if Obama wins we will claim the same thing. Only our claim will be based on truthful reality. I will be absolutely be shocked if Romney wins against a Chicago dem given their capacity for cheating.

While I’m not willing to rule out some sort of Dem shenanigans and voter fraud, it does seem reasonable to me to extend voting hours to make up for lost time due to a bomb scare.

Personally, I’d prefer all voting on election day unless there is a genuine need, such as being out of town, having to work, etc.

Warning: call your doctor if you experience an election extending more than four hours. This may be a sign of severe electile dysfunction.
