The Talk Shows

November 4th, 2012

Guests to be interviewed today on major television talk shows:

FOX NEWS SUNDAY (Fox Network): Rich Beeson, political director for Romney's campaign; David Axelrod, adviser to Obama's re-election campaign.

MEET THE PRESS (NBC): David Plouffe, adviser to President Barack Obama; Rep. Eric Cantor, R-Va.

FACE THE NATION (CBS): Political analysts.

Schieffer posted this on his blog Saturday: We're not talking to either side this Sunday. Instead, I'm going to go to some very smart people on two different panels. I want to see what they think, see if together we can find any trends. My guess is they probably don't have any more answers than I do, but we'll find out for sure on Sunday. Harvard's David Gergen, National Review's Rich Lowry, Vanity Fair's Dee Dee Myers, The Wall Street Journal's Peggy Noonan and our own John Dickerson will start us off. Then, we'll breakdown the numbers behind a 2012 victory with Democratic pollster Anna Greenberg, Republican strategist Leslie Sanchez, Rothenberg Political Report's Stu Rothenberg, University of Virginia's Larry Sabato and CBS News Elections Director Anthony Salvanto.

THIS WEEK (ABC): Plouffe; Ed Gillespie, adviser to Mitt Romney's presidential campaign.

STATE OF THE UNION (CNN): Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel; Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio.

1980 was the first Presidential election I was old enough to vote in. While I remember some polls showing a close race, I believe optimism about a Carter win was pretty muted. For one, here in my State of California Ted Kennedy had won the Democratic primary. Rep Anderson was siphoning more votes from Carter than he was his fellow Republican Reagan. There was little doubt that Reagan would win this State.

The media wasn’t so much surprised by the Reagan win as they were by the takeover of the Senate by the GOP.

Always in the background was the Iranian hostage crisis and Carters ‘Rose Garden’ strategy - seen by most as simply ‘ducking.’

The incumbent ducking questions from the media about foreign policy issues is the strongest resemblance between 1980 and now.

Tell me that Wednesday morning. I’m not basing what I posted on any poll. Obviously this is a close race. Christie has handed Obama a large number of independents and undecideds. Romney never had an advantage in the EC. Intrade still has him at hardly a third odds. The media has successfully run interference on Benghazi. This election is lost. I hope I’m wrong but doubt I am. I always believed the mass media would decide this election and from my perspective they have. America has lost... big time.

Problem with crawling way way way out on a limb like you just did is a lot of Freepers are going to gleefully cut it off behind you.

Hmmm... Your memory seems a little hindsighted to me.

It certainly wasn’t what the media was saying.

Then again, many people are predicting a smashing win for Romney Tuesday.

Perhaps in later years you’ll say you were one of them....

It’s a lonely limb. I’m sure as heck not invested in being right on this. I can’t stand the idea of this narcissistic fool being in my face for the next 4 years. If you think Obama Is full of himself now, just imagine how unbearable he will become after being reelected?

So by all means, bring your pruning hooks. This limb is in need of cutting down. VOTE!

I see the site is still shaky and the pictures I just posted might not make it so:

Of course it’s hindsighted. At the time the media was trying to paint Reagan as a war-monger who in the end would be unacceptable to the American people. Just because the media was trying to paint that picture doesn’t mean anyone was buying it. What is left out is how disillusioned the Democrats were with Carter. That is why I brought up the Kennedy challenge and Andersons appeal to the left.

Axelrod will see Wallace in the green room after the show, pre-shave.

I don’t think that Christie had any choice in his response to Obama’s request to visit NJ. My guess is that Obama was invited by Menendez, who knew that he was going to be hit with news of his involvement in prostitution and was planning to do a pre-election tour with Obama.

Further, I imagine that they told Christie that if he refused to come along, they would ask Cory Booker to do the honors. Oh, the press kept the Menendez pictures to minimum, but he was there at every stop, with Chris Christie standing in the back of Obama, not along side.

Since this is a Sunday morning talk show thread, I’m curious. I haven’t watched FNS or SotU shows yet.. FTN, MTP and TW had nothing on Menendez. Only MTP even brought up Benghazi. No one mentioned Obamas ‘voting is the best revenge’ comment (were it Romney it would be billboarded as a major gaffe). I never watch CNN, I’ll be curious to see if any of those items are mentioned on Fox News Sunday?

In the one picture that I saw of Menendez with Obama, Menendez and some other Democrat were in the front row, with Christie peeking out from behind Obama, looking like he was about to cry.

I hope that Christie makes an appearance with Romney in PA this afternoon, but I doubt that he has the time.

Christie did some damadge no doubt. But, if you look at reality since then its all down hill for the regime

The only reason II can see for his bringing Barry in, is that he knew it would be a mess, and figured the blame would go to FEMA/Barry and not to him, so in
the purest of political moves he bet support was better than ignoring.

A pure protect ME move

We shall see....

So if your so good at reading the future, what are the Lotto numbers this Weds?

I have talked to around 1000 voters in the last week and not one of them mentioned Christie or the flood. They are just as excited about voting for Romney.

Now what are those lottery numbers?

Pray for America

You’re being ridiculous. Elections aren’t random events like balls popping up in a lottery wheel... I can’t predict the lottery, but I can predict this: Obama is going to win this election. Romney would nearly have to run the table to pull this off... I just don’t see that happening.

Wish it were otherwise.

Well I sure don't see it that way.

I see a career ending move for the fat guy.

This is one of the most hotly contested elections in history! Yesterday on my way up and back to Ft. Lauderdale all I heard on every radio station in Miami/Ft.Lauderdale megaplex was Colin friggin Powell singing the praises of the Dear Leader. Now we have to see and hear the same crap form the NJ whale is just too much.

Both of these clowns should be kicked out of the party and tomorrow.

OMGosh, what a Debbie Downer. I just got home from a dear friends funeral that was more upbeat than you are.

Predict that O will win this election, no, but he will try to steal it any way he can.

You can’t predict the lottery but you can predict how 200 million people are going to vote with absolute clarity? You need to set Gallup, Michael Barone and Dick Morris straight who have a pretty good track record on this.

How were you on the midterms, 2008 and 2004. I have accurately predicted a year before they happened, Hilary losing, Obama being their candidate, the 2010 midterms & Bush twice and us winning Iraq when everyone else were being Eeyores looking for their tails. See you Weds morning Eeyore.

Pray for America
