Angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs as they tried to restore power in Bridgeport, Conn., after the mayor claimed the local power company had "shortchanged" the state's largest city as it tries to recover from superstorm Sandy.
United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.
"Citizens began throwing things at the crews," Michael West, a spokesman for United Illuminating, told FoxNews.com. "It started to get pretty hairy. They did not feel safe."
West said it started with verbal abuse and escalated.
"We communicated with the city and said if you dont provide police support, we can't have our crews there in harm's way," he said.

Wow. Did Ayn Rand ever peg these people or what?
Even stories about people who had gotten their power turned back on having their lines cut down because someone thought it wasn’t “fair” that they had gotten their power back first.
That’s sad for sure. After Katrina we could hear the power company coming our way. Day after day we were sure we would get power that day. One day I was outside and I saw a guy with the power company and I told him I would pray every day for him if he would get our power on. It was on the next day! Most probably it would have happened anyway but, it sure was nice to have air condition in the high 90 weather!
No, actually Waterbury is the armpit. Bridgeport is the anu$ and Hartford is the snotty nose. New London, New Britain and East Hartford are the toejam, dandruff and earwax respectively.
Sure, class warfare is all fun and games when it's a one way street to the pockets of the taxpayers.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Mayor Finch is a Left-O-crat - why is it that the left can never let a chance to use class warfare or racism go by them?
How’s that EBT card workin’ for ya without power, Bridgeport protesters? ;^)
Bridgeport, a town that political-correctness-run-amok has caused more disaster over the long run than this storm
The utility workers shouldn’t bother to come back. Let ‘em freeze in the dark.
Simple answer, “Enjoy the cold and the dark Bridgeport, y’all have a nice day now, bye”.
find out who threw eggs, and skip their house
Time to just load your gear and leave these nutballs to starve to death in the dark, surrounded by their own waste.
No kidding those folks in the area that threw trash at the Utility Crews will literally be the last people in the state to get the lights back on .
Now if you were to take your twelve pack of beer for a walk & it got loose from its leash & the power crew just happen to find it you would be amazed at how fast your lights get turned back on. Just saying
Must be part of their charming ways. In New Orleans after Isaac (2 months ago, but I'm sure everyone remembers), when the utility crew showed up, my neighbors and I were out (in 95F heat, btw), swapping turkey recipes with the foreman. Our power was out for 88 hours. It was out for a month after Katrina.
Meanwhile, back in the United Illuminating Dispatch Office, the repair crew dispatcher says...
“Soooooo...’Bridgeport’’ file comes off the top of the repair order stack...and is re-inserted on the bottom of the stack. Alrighty then.”
Now that was a brilliant move. If these people elected the guy, it shouldn't surprise anyone.
A$$Clowns
Not enough holes. Too many people already in there for stupid crap.
Aside from that, jail would be the best place to be right now because those are the first places likely to have services restored.
No kidding when the weather trashes a town or small city in Nebraska& you are a member of a visiting power crew you will have folks walk up to your rig with fresh coffee ,cookies, pie, sandwiches as a way to say thank you .
Anyone throwing eggs would get a ass whooping.
And have their neighborhood power restored - last. Furthermore, a list of the disruptive people who caused the delay should be posted in the neighborhood.
Bridgeport, where boxes of ballots turned up just in time, in just the right amount, to win Danny Malloy (D) the governorship.
I wonder if is the cronny NYC way of “paying extra” for some service. IOW someone gets power back faster because they know someone.
somehow I doubt that. I would imagine this is just the savages being one meal away from uncivilized.
