Usually at night the air closer to the ground becomes colder when the sun goes down and the earth cools.

But on huge wind farms the motion of the turbines mixes the air higher in the atmosphere that is warmer, pushing up the overall temperature.

Satellite data over a large area in Texas, that is now covered by four of the world's largest wind farms, found that over a decade the local temperature went up by almost 1C as more turbines are built.

This could have long term effects on wildlife living in the immediate areas of larger wind farms.

It could also affect regional weather patterns as warmer areas affect the formation of cloud and even wind speeds.

With the number of windmills they would need to erect, I suspect the change will be far more wide ranging.

I wonder if there is any difference in the effect if VAWT are used instead.

There have been windmills (fans) in orchards for DECADES to modify the tree temperatures. This really can’t be NEWS can it?

1 centigrade increase in West Texas temperature is like saying 1 centigrade lower in the arctic.

The rattle snakes wont care.

This is crap.

If the wind turbines are extracting energy from the wind, the air cools.

In a jet engine, the gas flowing through the turbine cools hundreds of degrees in milliseconds.

This entire process can easily be simulated using existing software that is presently used to simulate gaseous discharges from elevated stacks a.k.a. “dispersion modeling”.

Of course, Algore may want to modify the math before running the program.

" It could also affect regional weather patterns as warmer areas affect the formation of cloud and even wind speeds."

Talk about unintended consequences.

Could explain the devastating drought most of the USA had this year.

Ah ha! I knew it was Obama’s fault. If only he’d had the entire Hill stand out on the front lawn and blown their hot air in the direction of Sandy, he could have diverted this disaster.
