My take: Axelrod, Plouffe, and Jarrett decided he'd get more votes looking Presidential and in charge for a week (even though he'd be doing very little) compared with demagoging small crowds on the stump. He'd also get more free TV coverage.

It's all calculated. He could have campaigned every day and convened meetings on AF1 about disaster relief, and would have if his advisors thought it better. They are probably hoping that Romney, out of respect for the victims, would call off his campaigning while the President was busy, so as not to grab an unseemly advantage.

Wouldn't that be like a reverse McCain move? In the last election, McCain suspended his campaign to go to DC while the economy was in crisis, but Obama kept right on hammering away.

The president has snapped up the opportunity to put on his commander-in-chief hat in the final week of a bitter reelection battle. Moreover, we know that this joke of a President showed on 9/11 in Benghazi that he has no idea or guts to be commander in chief when he did absolutely nothing while four Americans were attacked and murdered by terrorists.
