John McCain asked yesterday on CBS Face the Nation, What did the president know? When did he know it? And what did he do about it? Fox News has more on the first two questions this morning. According to their sources, the FBI and the National Counterterrorism Center briefed lawmakers two days after the attack on al-Qaedas connections to the Benghazi attack, one day before the CIA director showed up on Capitol Hill to tell a completely different story:
Two days after the Libya terror attack, representatives of the FBI and National Counterterrorism Center gave Capitol Hill briefings in which they said the evidence supported an Al Qaeda or Al Qaeda-affiliated attack, Fox News has learned.
The description of the attack by those in the Sept. 13 briefings stands in stark contrast to the now controversial briefing on Capitol Hill by CIA Director David Petraeus the following day and raises even more questions about why Petraeus described the attack as tied to a demonstration.
FBI and NCTC also briefed that there were a series of Al Qaeda training camps just outside of Benghazi, where the attack occurred and resulted in the deaths of four Americans. The area was described as a hotbed for the militant Ansar al-Sharia as well as Al Qaeda in North Africa.
Fox News is told there was no mention of a demonstration or any significant emphasis on the anti-Islam video that for days was cited by administration officials as a motivating factor.
Petraeus has been the quiet man in all of this, and this could be the reason why. According to Foxs report, Petraeus left very little room for equivocation in his briefing. According to their sources, Petraeus dismissed the significance of the use of a mortar position in the attack and insisted that the event started as a spontaneous demonstration that got out of control when radicals took advantage of the confusion.
But theres another problem in this report for the White House. Since having to back away from Susan Rices attempt to sell the same story to the media five days after the attack on five different Sunday talk shows, they have insisted that the Obama administration shared the assessments it received from the intel community as they received them. Did anyone ever share the FBI and NCTC assessments in the 13th that al-Qaeda was linked to the attack? Not to my recollection.
Early briefings on Libya strike focused on Al Qaeda, before story changed ^
This almost sounds like the Video story originated at the CIA.
Which was what the ( pulled-- Canada Free Press ) Article by Hagaman I posted last night.
Along with many other questionable claims.
Al Qaeda offshoot a prime suspect in Libya attack Sept. 13, 2012(CBS News) A radical Islamic group called Ansar al Sharia is, according to U.S. officials, the leading suspect in the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi that killed four Americans. The name means "Supporters of Islamic law" and U.S. officials describe it as an offshoot of al Qaeda.
Now I am scratching my head ....WHY?
I don’t know when Petraeus made his statement about the ‘video’ or when anyone else first used it to explain Benghazi. All I know is that the Cairo embassy and Hillbilly were the first to apologize for it beginning early in the day on Sept. 11th.
So it would seem the CIA just making use of the story.
Going to drop this link here...so I can find it again:
When the prez doesn’t feel it necessary to sit through his daily intel brief, he may “think” he has deniability. Evidently he isn’t a “buck stops here” kinda guy
Libyan brigade warns of "inferno" if U.S. intervenes ( After the Benghazi Attack)
What the...? Does this mean Petraeus is in Obama’s pocket? That seems weird ...though not impossible.
FR has been acting like it’s about to crash any minute all morning for me. Every single page load takes a minute or two and many of them just timeout. I’ve had a little luck by just stopping it and refreshing or going back to the source link and trying again. Sometimes they then load immediately by doing that.
Same deal. Same actions taken on this end as well.
Responded to that posts. Thanks.
Same here. In a few hours it appears the eye will be getting close to Philadelphia. Winds have been picking up quite a bit. I have gas heat, so at least I will be able to cook dinner if my electrical power goes out.
