MY sister, who was a secretary in the Mad Men era, is not worried that Republicans want to drag us back to being secretaries in the Mad Men era, as Tina Fey suggests.
Peggy is that most sought-after creature, an undecided woman who is a swing voter. She started as a blond concrete block in President Obamas female firewall, but like many other women, is now pondering divorcing him for the man who looks and darn well talks like a 50s sitcom dad.
She does not believe the economy is getting better, and she trusts Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan not to do anything radical on womens reproductive rights or Medicare. She rejects my contention that Republicans in Congress would force them to; they see Mitt as an empty suit who would happily sign their far-right bills as long as he got Air Force One.
Our mom, a strict Catholic, taught us that it was immoral for a woman to be expected to carry a rapists baby for nine months. (Dont even mention that rapists can assert parental rights in 31 states.)
But compassion is scant among the Puritan tribe of Republicans running now. As The Huffington Post reports, at least a dozen G.O.P. Senate candidates oppose abortion for rape victims. The party platform calls for a constitutional amendment with no exceptions for rape, incest or the mothers life.

Your mom was wrong, Maureen.
I hate to tell her but it is Obama that peaked too soon.....about four years too soon!
I smell a 1972.
Anyone have any idea of how the Maureen Dowd - Catherine Zeta-Jones “rule” came about? I would love to see the original thread where that rule was put into place.
Maureen looks like she’s got some miles on her, but she’s not at all unattractive. Other than her political beliefs, anyway.
Obama worship tearing families apart now. Pathetic that Dowd would use her position to tear down her own sister publically and then in another article call for a truce between democrats and republicans if Rmney wins.
Desperate.
I think it had something to do with Maureen Dowd writing negative articles about Clinton during his impeachment. Then she started dating Michael Douglas and all of a sudden her articles about Clinton became positive and supportive. As soon as impeachment ended he dumped her for Catherine Zeta Jones. So the pictures are to remind Maureen who her Hollywood boyfriend left her for once he was done using her.
IIRC, the rule came about because during the Clinton impeachment Michael Douglas dated Maureen Dowd (ostensibly at Clinton’s behest, to distract her from savaging Clinton in print), and then dumped her for Catherine Zeta-Jones. The CZJ pix are posted to rub it in should Dowd ever find the threads of her columns.
No idea which thread this custom originated on.
RE: Obama worship tearing families apart now
They should really live at peace with each other like the following :
* James Carville and Mary Matalin
* Monica Crowley and Brother in Law, Alan Colmes
This article implies that Democrat women are blockheads, and Maureen Dowd, one of the biggest, flat states it! Bwaaaahahahahahahahaha!
My own Lib sister in New Mexico, who was in the tank for Obama finally abandoned him, but still couldn't bring herself to vote Romney; instead, in early voting, she went with 'favorite son' candidate Gary Johnson. A "protest" vote, while knowing full well that Obama has a comfortable lead in her state, signifying nothing. Smart, but clueless.
Those are all off-road miles.
Mo Dowd’s sister must have all the sense in the family.
I totally agree. This article has even more than the usual lunacy from Dowd. Totally hysterical and unhinged.
Mo must be a lot older than we thought.
I remember an old school yearbook. The headmaster was an old guy from the "Mad Men" era. His catchphrase, according to the yearbook, was "Have you read Reston in the Times?" I imagine his tone was like "Pardon me, would you have any Grey Poupon?"
Somehow I can't imagine somebody like that asking anyone if they'd read Maureen Dowd or Gail Collins or Charles Blow (who doesn't actually write much, as opposed to creating graphics) or even Tom Friedman.
Ok there was a reference to “Mad Men” , Tina Scarface was the mad woman, that leaves Maurene as the bat out of hell for the meatloaf.
Copy that. However, both of my dogs are cuter and more fun to be with. I perfer their company over hers. [Note to Andrew Sullivan types: I am not engaging in animal cruelty by committing animal husbandry with them. I leave that to Maureen's Muslium fans]
