After the last chapter is written on this presidency and we believe that will happen in less than three months President Obama will be remembered as a leader who responded to gargantuan challenges with pedestrian and partisan measures.
The country's economy is in better shape today than it was four years ago, but the recovery from the Great Recession has not been strong enough. Unemployment remains alarmingly and historically high, while home prices and measures of public confidence are distressingly low. If American voters were asked to vote on their confidence in the future, they would respond with a thumbs down.
A presidential election, of course, is not merely a referendum, but a choice between candidates. This year, it is a choice between a president whose record has not matched the rhetorical promise that carried him into office and a businessman and politician with a record of accomplishment. We endorse Mitt Romney for president.
