Aside from fleeting references brought up by GOP challenger Mitt Romney to increasing trade with Latin America and accusations of President Obama pledging to meet with Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro at the beginning of his first term, the western hemisphere, with the exception of a few domestic economic issues, did not appear to be an important enough topic for Monday evenings final presidential debate at Lynn University in Boca Raton. Of special note for those who place importance on such matters, illegal immigration coming into this country from Mexico and the Fast and Furious gunwalking operation that abetted the smuggling of firearms to drug cartels were completely off the table.
The direction of the discussion was steered through questions presented by moderator Bob Schieffer of CBS News, who, aside from an introduction that referenced the Cuban missile crisis, curiously did not appear to think U.S. relations with its half of the planet qualified for an examination of current and proposed foreign policies. That Schieffer did not consider Mexico and its attendant issues, including a story that won one of his networks reporters both an Edward R. Murrow Award and an Emmy, important enough to even broach, shows another curious set of priorities, even though so-called conservative pundits like S.E. Cupp, Brent Bozell, Britt Hume and Bill OReilly all offered praise for the job he did. That in itself should tell people something about the way establishment media, with its cultivated and approved left and right faces, commands the public attention.
But the blame for continuing a dont ask, dont tell policy on Fast and Furious cant be entirely placed at Schieffers feet, particularly as NBC observed, the candidates debated domestic policy almost as much as they did foreign policy during the third and final presidential debate.

It was impossible to kick W’s butt wrt Mexico so Romney is going to be difficult to properly motivate.
Gunwalker / Murdergate ping.
No fast and furious and NO BENGHAZI!
Come on people! WTF? There wasnt even enough time for Romney to sort out all the rabid lies that came out of Obastards mouth, and they are supposed to cover the problem with Mexico?
The dam debate would have had to be ten hours long.
I for one was glad it wasnt long. I was dam sick and tired of listening to all the crap coming from Obastards mouth. The Blabbering was sickening and we all should get disability for having to listen to it.
After the ‘Candy get the transcript’ fiasco I think Romney decided it would be better to simply act presidential. No doubt the Schieffer Obama team had ambushes set for both of those subjects.
yep,0 tried to define Romney with endless lies. Romney completely his sole objective and that was not to get rattled by the lier in cheif.
Thereby looking Presidential.
That is to say,Romney completed his sole objective.
I’m convinced Obama sent guns to Mexico to destabilize the Mexican gov.
Perhaps, but he certainly was attempting to build a public relations case against the legal firearms trade here at home.
Thinking about this more, I agree. Romney is being smart, playing a ground game, not risking an interception. He is ahead and is playing out the clock.
The Obama administration is destroying itself.
A missed opportunity to connect with the folks who have roots in Mexico.
“Mr. President, you unleashed a flood of automatic weapons on Mexico without informing them, hundreds of Mexican citizens are dead and more will be.”
I think so too, and I am amazed that there is not more attention to this “gunwalking” scandal. It is as big as Iran/Contra, as big as Watergate, IMO.
