Repaved Kansas ‘like a whole new race track’
http://www.nascar.com/news/121017/kansas-tire-testing/index.html
KANSAS CITY, Kan. — It was the same purple, yellow and green grandstand; the same outlet mall and casino beyond the same 1.5-mile oval; the same strong wind whipping in from the same prairie. It was Kansas Speedway, all right — the same name painted along the inside wall and on a sign rotating at the top of the scoring tower. But from a driver’s perspective, everything about the track seemed different.
Cars on NASCAR’s Sprint Cup circuit circled the facility Wednesday in a test that marked the first time a full field had taken to the track since a resurfacing that was completed in late summer. Although rain cut the scheduled four-hour session in half, competitors still got a healthy dose of a venue that’s been repaved and had variable banking added in the turns since the last time the sport’s premier series raced here in April.
“This track went from being abrasive and wearing the tires out, to smooth and super-fast, and the times just don’t fall off,” Jeff Gordon said. “If anything, they get faster. It’s basically like going to a whole new race track.”
Gitter done
In before Tubeblender and DosYappyDogs! Got wiped out in the last lap at ‘dega. Was doing well and now have to look for welfare points. 0bama should redistribute points so we all win!
Ah, trust me, you won’t hear a “yap”. A short snarl then your bleeding.
It’s good to be home but cold and snow coming in over the weekend and the forecast is for the it to last a week. So-k as the pantry is stocked and the butane/propane tanks are full. Ready for a ??? race because of the new track. I almost ran Denny but saw a crawler tonight while watching the Duck’s game that Denny’s been cleared to race after feeling dizzy. Didn’t catch the reason -
It seems strange to read about this track. Never went back to see it but used to drive a wagon pulled by a team of mules over the south 40 of the track while my dad walked and picked corn by hand and threw it in the wagon in the fall some 60 years ago.
Denny crashed in testing at KS. Rung his bell pretty good.
OK, thanks umgud. If I have a choice I’d rather get dizzy by eating a half-dozen crispy cremes then hitting a wall.
Read an article re: Wednesday’s testing that there was only one grove and to venture out of it was asking for disaster. They hope there will be more than one grove by race time. Saturdays Nationwide race will be a “tell”.
I can gain 732.6 points on YappyDog between now and the finale according to the new Million Man Math
Wow! Our neighbor farmed with a pair of mules that my 2 brothers plowed with in the 30s in western FResno County Ca. I think “Grampa” White was from Kansas...
Nice to see Mark Martin near the top.
White stuff is flying in the air outside! Watched the last 15 laps of the Nationwide race. Poor Kyle. Will it be another fuel mileage race? It does appear the 2nd grove has come in anyway.
Probably a late view for the race here. Church, errands and a project outside before the snow gets serious. The top dog is slow-cooking some kinda road kill and is filling the house w/a pleasant aroma.
Tell her to hold off on the cooking. I’m relocating a Possum by Fed-Ax to your kitchen door. Your MiL can show you how to skin it...

Martin leads Lap 1.
Big points implication with #48 crashing.
Not really...
This track is dangerous.
This field (and my picks) have flopped so many times, I feeel like I’m at a fishing tournament.
JJ made it up to the front of the field , can he stay there?, Aric just done blow’d it.. again and got somewhat lucky.. he’s sure driving the heck out of that car.
Bruiser Keseslowski needs a Top 10 or better finish, hambone is right in it too.
Shrub guarantees Newman will have at least one more wreck before the year is out.
Newman nudged him and the already loose Busch spun her out.
Newman also is out of the race.
Too much going on here on the Vast Bender Estate to join in and enjoy the race.
Like I said, this track is dangerous and the t’ars..
Almirola hits the wall hard the third time and also had led the most laps today,, crazy.. he may have gotten some smoke as he ahd a bit of an engine fire.
Most cautions today at any track .. 13.. Thanks Nascar. nice paving and reconfiguration job.
I’m about ready to switch to the Raiders.. You’re not missing much, a greasy new track.
McReynolds is blaming the teams .. there’s a reason why he is in the booth.
The ZESTfully clean Matt Kenseth in the #17 car wins!!
See ya next week!!
Off to Martinsville!
I had a great team until the race started. I am afraid to check the scores >;(
not many broke 300 points, that’s for sure.
I lucked out with 58 bonus points.. whew.
If it wasn’t for my 55 bonus score I would owe the league points...
Now THAT was a fun race to watch. The track was edgy and so were the drivers. Danica needs time on a simulator (not stimulator) to learn how to drive after she wrecks. Seriously, why haven’t they done that? JJ saved his chance for the championship with some miracle repair and taping. I thought he was a goner with the “take it to the garage” talk. And Kyle Busch once again proves that he has never listened to Barbara Streisand’s “People - Who Love People” song. The guy I felt most badly for was Mark Martin - bad luck again. I’d love to see him win a race.
Sure... You care more for a guy you’ve never met than your nearest neighbor who consistently runs in the 53.4 percentile. I’m sticking VooDoo pins in the water pipes in your house until your MiL stops making your race picks for you...
Now THAT was a fun race to watch.

the best place to send Danica is to Eldora.
True, I’ve never met Norm but I think he’s a swell guy. (Not just because he’s carrying the FR racing thread this year) I also thought you were a swell guy too but then I met you and at 53.4% Norm is still an above average fellow. My MIL doesn’t make my picks as she, unfortunately, thinks Reagan is still alive but she did used to get mad at me back in the Bandon days when I wouldn’t give her the raccoons I’d shoot that knocked over my garbage cans. You might have noticed some of that Cherokee lineage in Mrs. Happydog’s face which is why I always serve her a fresh “k” cup of coffee first thing when she wakes up in the morning. Have I mentioned that I’m outa “B” drivers?
