Video: Candy Crowley Admits Romney Was Correct About Libya Attack But Simply Couldn’t Stop Herself

After embarrassing herself with her incompetently biased attempt to “fact check” GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney during the second presidential debate, CNN correspondent Candy Crowley has already began trying to save her shattered credibility. In a panel discussion afterward, a fast-talking Crowley tried to spin away her offensive conduct by admitting that Romney was indeed correct in casting blame on the Obama Administration for falsely blaming an anti-Islamic video for attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“It was one of those moments, and I could even feel that here, you know, when you say something you’re not expecting,” Crowley insisted, admitting she simply couldn’t help herself from unprofessionally inserting herself into a heated dispute that Obama and Romney were having. Video and transcript below the fold.

“He was right in the main, I just think he picked the wrong word,” Crowley said, echoing the extremely legalistic reading of the facts about what President Obama meant when he said “acts of terror” in reference to the Benghazi attack.

Knowing that she is facing a tremendous amount of backlash for her outburst, Crowley tried to play down the Libya discussion in the debate, insisting it wasn't really important:

"They’re going to parse and we all know about what the definition of is is, but, I, uh, you know, in the end, I think John [King]’s probably right. I think this has a lot more to with jobs and the debt crisis and all of that kind of stuff.

If her unprofessional conduct had not been so highly visible, Crowley's sad attempts to excuse herself would be amusing since she's almost literally admitted she has a knee-jerk liberal bias. Instead they are only ironic.

Full transcript of Crowley's remarks is below:

CANDY CROWLEY: Well, you know, I heard the president speak at the time. I, sort of, reread a lot of stuff about Libya because I knew we’d probably get a Libya question so I kind of wanted to be up on it. So I knew that the president had, had, said, you know, these acts of terror won’t stand or, whatever the whole quote was.

And I think actually, you know because, right after that I did turn around and say, but you’re totally correct that they spent two weeks telling us this was about a tape and that that there was a, you know, this riot outside the Benghazi consulate which there wasn’t.

So he was right in the main, I just think he picked the wrong word. And I, you know, they’re going to parse and we all know about what the definition of is is, but, I, uh, you know, in the end, I think John [King]’s probably right. I think this has a lot more to with jobs and the debt crisis and all of that kind of stuff.

I just think that probably it was one of those moments and I could even feel that here, you know, when you say something you’re not expecting. It’s just that was the natural thing coming out of me going, ‘Actually he did, you know, call it an act of terror.’ Uh, when, you know, half the crowd clapped for that and the other half clapped for ‘But they kept telling us this was a tape, this was caused by a tape’ so, you know, in the main, the thrust of what Governor Romney was saying, which is why I went back and said that, um, but I just think he picked the wrong kind of way to go about talking about it if that makes sense.

Too little, Too late.

She could have corrected herself on air, just before the last closing remarks.

I don’t think they come that large a size...

Perhaps if one welded two Great Dane carriers together?

Naw...still not big enough.

RE :”” I just really wish we could get a moderator for the next debate from Fox; someone like Chris Wallace, or Britt Hume.”
.....
There is no excuse for this. The Republican Party has a death wish. Stuck on stupid.”

I have explained this before.

The reason why I know the ‘Romney is really winning and the polls are all rigged’ line was pure Republican/Rush spin was because Romney agreed to these moderators. He knew he needed the debates more than Obama thought he needed them. Every so often I can find a objective measure and this was a clear one.

The good news for Romney is that it seems apparent that far fewer Americans watched this debate vs. #1. I can only extrapolate based on Twitter counts. The first debate saw 11.4 million tweets containing the hashtag “#debate”. This one? Only 7.05 million. That is a drop of 40%, no doubt in part due to an exciting playoff game between the Yankees and Tigers.

Crowley clearly is a racist for having to rescue the first black president.

And you fed your ego with that little ‘advice’, which would have been more genuine had you sent it via freepmail, instead of stroking your ego with a public ‘correction of the writer’. Pathetic attention whine ...

Get off your damn high-horse. Yea, I guess I should have sent a freepmail but it never even crossed my mind. I had just woke up and was on my first cup of coffee. Ego? Hardly.

Jeff, if I insulted you in any way then I apologize here in the forum for all to see.

““Well, it was only a few people. The Democrats are going to do so much good, that a few deaths don’t matter.”

I’m out of the loop.

What is the source of that quote?

The reason why I know the ‘Romney is really winning and the polls are all rigged’ line was pure Republican/Rush spin was because Romney agreed to these moderators.

Flasback to Sept 25: DDD: I think I will have a ‘better feel’ after the debates.

SOL: Maybe but you may not ‘feel better’ after the debates. You know the biased in the tank liberal MSM we keep hearing about? Romney agreed to them moderating the debates.

Well done, SOL! You warned us!

In fact, Romney's lawyers had negotiated an agreement that the moderator for debate #2 would not ask her own questions, but Crowley announced before the debates started that she was going to insert her ego into the show, and Romney's lawyers caved.

As in the title of the article "But Simply Couldn’t Stop Herself" (as if she ate a big bowl of Mexican food and.... BRRRRRT!!!). This is another example of what I called the Kanye West Syndrome, also adopted by Biden.

It seems like to me that in the days of Walter Cronkite, there were a few big name news people, but at some point, media people started aggressively promoting their own careers, and now we have hundreds of these "news celebrities," with more coming.

Yes he did. I don't know why our guys agree to this type of stuff, but you can bet your arse it will be reflected in their determinations of what is Conservative and what isn't after they are in office.

In this case, maybe the choices were cave or cancel. But you bet your *** that if Romney's lawyers signed a business contract, they would have planned ahead for such an obvious contingency! Come to think of it, maybe they were RNC's, not Romney's, lawyers.

What should concern Crowley is how she said all week leading up to the debate that she would be a factor and not a fly on the wall, and when she did insert herself it blew up in her face.

It's a case of people saying, "You're going to shoot your eye out!" and when she finally does it she shoots her eye out.

The big question that someone should ask Crowley now is "Are you finally in the camp that thinks that moderators should simply facilitate debates and stay out of the discussions?"
