Video: Candy Crowley Admits Romney Was Correct About Libya Attack But Simply Couldn’t Stop Herself

After embarrassing herself with her incompetently biased attempt to “fact check” GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney during the second presidential debate, CNN correspondent Candy Crowley has already began trying to save her shattered credibility. In a panel discussion afterward, a fast-talking Crowley tried to spin away her offensive conduct by admitting that Romney was indeed correct in casting blame on the Obama Administration for falsely blaming an anti-Islamic video for attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“It was one of those moments, and I could even feel that here, you know, when you say something you’re not expecting,” Crowley insisted, admitting she simply couldn’t help herself from unprofessionally inserting herself into a heated dispute that Obama and Romney were having. Video and transcript below the fold.

“He was right in the main, I just think he picked the wrong word,” Crowley said, echoing the extremely legalistic reading of the facts about what President Obama meant when he said “acts of terror” in reference to the Benghazi attack.

Knowing that she is facing a tremendous amount of backlash for her outburst, Crowley tried to play down the Libya discussion in the debate, insisting it wasn't really important:

"They’re going to parse and we all know about what the definition of is is, but, I, uh, you know, in the end, I think John [King]’s probably right. I think this has a lot more to with jobs and the debt crisis and all of that kind of stuff.

If her unprofessional conduct had not been so highly visible, Crowley's sad attempts to excuse herself would be amusing since she's almost literally admitted she has a knee-jerk liberal bias. Instead they are only ironic.

Full transcript of Crowley's remarks is below:

CANDY CROWLEY: Well, you know, I heard the president speak at the time. I, sort of, reread a lot of stuff about Libya because I knew we’d probably get a Libya question so I kind of wanted to be up on it. So I knew that the president had, had, said, you know, these acts of terror won’t stand or, whatever the whole quote was.

And I think actually, you know because, right after that I did turn around and say, but you’re totally correct that they spent two weeks telling us this was about a tape and that that there was a, you know, this riot outside the Benghazi consulate which there wasn’t.

So he was right in the main, I just think he picked the wrong word. And I, you know, they’re going to parse and we all know about what the definition of is is, but, I, uh, you know, in the end, I think John [King]’s probably right. I think this has a lot more to with jobs and the debt crisis and all of that kind of stuff.

I just think that probably it was one of those moments and I could even feel that here, you know, when you say something you’re not expecting. It’s just that was the natural thing coming out of me going, ‘Actually he did, you know, call it an act of terror.’ Uh, when, you know, half the crowd clapped for that and the other half clapped for ‘But they kept telling us this was a tape, this was caused by a tape’ so, you know, in the main, the thrust of what Governor Romney was saying, which is why I went back and said that, um, but I just think he picked the wrong kind of way to go about talking about it if that makes sense.

If you analyze Obama's words, it is almost a self admission of guilt. When he says, "Number two, investigate exactly what happened, regardless of where the facts lead us, to make sure that folks are held accountable and it doesn't happen again."

Why would you even say, "regardless of where the facts lead us"? That to me screams they are covering up, but he is trying to over compensate by adding that line as if that will distract people from seeing the truth that is already so apparent. The president and his narcissism are so predictable.

Here we have another one. Old Candy is going to be responsible if even one of those missing Libyan anti-aircraft missiles is used in a terrorist attack. There won’t be enough soap at CNN to wash the blood off her hands. And oh, by the way, Candy, don’t eat a sandwich because now you can’t wash the Ambassador’s blood off your hands.

“DAMAGE DONE. Axelrod and Crowley performed brilliantly.”

They hope damage is done, but I don’t think it really mattered. Bottom line was polling indicates Romney won overwhelmingly on the issue most people care about — the economy.

And for Romney, to come into an environment with the deck stacked against him — stupid questions, biased moderator, 9% less talk time, moderator lying for POTUS, etc — and come out with essentially a draw overall and a big win on economic issues is amazing. I’m actually quite proud of the way he overcame adversity.

Going forward, I think the polling keeps trending Romney’s direction and I think he’s headed for a landslide victory. Final debate on foreign policy — this is ALL about Obama’s record, in a much easier format for Romney to get his shots in. Highly doubtful Obama can get a “game changer” out of that last debate.

Crowley exhibiting her gravitas.

She'd be more interested in a gravy toss.

How many dead Americans until CNN starts doing their job? What if it was her brother gunned down in Benghazi?
“Well, it was only a few people. The Democrats are going to do so much good, that a few deaths don’t matter.”
And so begins the walk to hell.

"...if that makes sense."

Um, no, Candy, actually it doesn't make any sense. But no worries, that is one of the defining characteristics of almost everything a liberal thinks or says, so we're all pretty much used to it. Please, by all means, continue with your dissembling...

I hope you are right. Bob Shieffer probably won’t collude with the Obama camp the way Crowley did—but who knows. I pray the Obama nightmare soon comes to an end.

If it wasn’t really important why did she really open her fat mouth.
Mitt should have thanked theboth for the opportunity to debate both of them.

” Maybe when he said “No acts of terror...” O was trying to have it both ways,”

Correct.

Just another piece of Obamafraud.

Liberals like abortion so much because they can’t stop themselves.

Maybe she should have an oral abortion and have her larynx removed

because she can’t stop herself.

As I understand it, the definition of "terrorism" under US law requires a "premeditated" attack. While Obama may have given lip service to "acts of terror" regarding the anniversary of 9/11, he never directly referred to Benghazi as premeditated.

In fact, nine days later on Univision, he brushed aside any notion of this being premeditated, claiming instead that the attack occurred because of "natural protests" resulting from the film.

He can't have it both ways. Either his "acts of terror" comment was a general throw-away line, non-specific to the Benghazi attack (which his words and actions following the attacks indicated)... or this was a "terrorist" attack, in which case, he was grossly negligent and irresponsible in darting off to fundraisers and the Letterman show, etc., when the nation and Americans around the globe were at risk...

Jeff, you need to proofread the second paragraph at the top of your page. The misspellings are taking away from your important message.

I had to laugh early on at my son’s reaction when FuBO was trying to interrupt Romney, and Romeny said “Excuse me, Mr. President, but I’m speaking right now, you’ll have your turn.”

My son cracked up and said “Oh, WOW...He just bitch-slapped the President on national television!”

Romney held his own, even in the face of that fat cow Crowley propping up Dumbo - she did everything except hold his weener for him while he peed.

I just really wish we could get a moderator for the next debate from Fox; someone like Chris Wallace, or Britt Hume.

The Frank Luntz focus group was a pretty strong showing, IMHO...almost everyone in that group went for Romney, and I think even Luntz was surprised by it.

FuBO looked small, petty, and uber-defensive. And Also - did anyone else notice how when Romney brought up Operation Fast and Furious and started going into detail about his Executive Privilege to shut down the investigation, Obama CLEARLY says in the the background “Candy..??”, and she immediately steered the discussion away?

Almost like it was already discussed ahead of time, dontcha think???

Nah....couldn’t be. She’s an “impartial” fly on the wall, after all.

There is no excuse for this. The Republican Party has a death wish. Stuck on stupid.

Not every American is stupid, or deaf. This hurt Obama.
