The latest numbers are out on the economy, and things have been worse than we thought:
GDP revised lower, manufacturing orders fall
The GDP was revised from an anemic 1.7% growth rate down to 1.3% growth through Q2 of this year (the half-way point). That officially puts us .5% behind Canada for the same period. Other great news included that the demand for long-term durable goods decreased 13% in August, about 10% worse than we had thought .
But who cares? Terrible economic news to Americans these days is like telling someone in Chicago that a kid got shot on the south side. People shrug and mutter a lackluster bummer, but no one seems to have an emotional response to bad news anymore.
Perhaps even more disturbing, it seems as if the worse things get economically, the higher Obamas ratings go. People are starting to believe that being trapped in a government-induced recession is the new normal. There is a growing perception that the Obama administration masters are controlling our lives for the better and we should be content with the impossible hoops we have to jump through to get a small business loan now or that chasing investment capital off-shore is better for us It can only be described as national Stockholm Syndrome. The problem with Stockholm Syndrome is that the victim no longer wants the cure

Obama was correct, we are in a recovery rebound in going the wrong direction backwards.
Stop saying “new normal.” If you must say normailty or normalness or norm. But don’t do that, either.
We are in a very critical year.
If Obama wins re-election we’re through. Through.
The problem is, our guy is not very inspiring. At all! Mitt however made a serious move in the right direction by nominating as our VP nominee Ryan.
Now it is time for Romney to double-down and push Ryan out to the people, because Romney doesn’t have what it takes to win.
Push Ryan out front more!
Stop saying “new normal.” If you must say normality or normalness or norm. But don’t do that, either.
Oh, it’s still there alright.
IMHO.....the last election, we all “discovered” each other via the Tea Party and offshoots of that movement. It was just that: a period of discovery that taught us “Hey! I’m not alone after all!”
Now, we’re quieter about it....loading a weapon, sharpening a knife (metaphorically speaking) isn’t noisy.
‘Normalcy bias’... :-)
Democrats ruin this country for two reasons:
1) They hate this country
2) It is their path to more power
The sheeple are just doing what is expected of them: nothing.

I am also hardened to the reality that a good percentage of my fellow citizens have been bought off by the snake-oil salesman and will pull the lever for him again - probably multiple times. I'm prepared for the hard times that will surely hit all of us if we fail to remove him.
Recognizing it doesn't mean I have to like it.
You would hardly know there is a national election by looking at the yards and cars around here. I've never seen so few signs and bumper stickers. I mean, even the old ones used to hang on long after an election. Now all is wiped clean.
You can say normalcy too, yes. Although I don’t hear that one very often. It does harken back to the last time we had a decent economic program: the Harding/Coolidge/Melon era.
As one Freeper, Breto (I’m giving him credit since he made this point in another post), we can survive bad leaders but not a bad (or sheeple-like) electorate. The Founding Fathers were correct in limiting sufferage.
Basically, we have a nation filled with Patty Hearsts, she was kidnapped by terrorists of the SLA and later joined them.
I know what let’s do! Let’s all write more letters and make more phone calls to our elected representatives expressing our outrage and demanding that they DO SOMETHING!!!! Yeah, that’ll do it. That’ll make ‘em do what in necessary to fix our economy and slow and reduce government spending and regulation!!!
And then, we can have town hall meetings we can go to and tell them that we aren’t pleased with their performance and we’ll make them open so that the opposition can express their views and we can have an open and logical debate about the issues facing our country. That always works out well. Right will prevail of course. That is all we really want isn’t it? For right to prevail? Every body wants that that don’t they?
Bravo Sierra... none of that crap works. Never has and never will.
Holding my breath for the debates. So much depends on Romney’s performance and the spin that follows.
He's right. Unfortunately it's a vertical corner as opposed to a horizontal one, i.e. going over a cliff.
You got it.
I don't think it's so much that people to whom those things matter are accepting the status quo, it's that people to whom those things don't matter have become a large majority of the electorate.
Liberal politicians love to swing at at Goldman Sachs and hit Frank the Florist. Their voters always give them credit for taking the swing, regardless of the result.
