Former president George W. Bush isnt exactly doing Mitt Romney any favors on the messaging front. As the current face of the Republican party, Mitts single biggest challenge has been distancing himself from his image as a business tycoon who got rich by outsourcing American jobs and then keeping big chunks of his fortune in Swiss bank accounts and invested in the Cayman Islands.
On election week, George W. will rub the sketchy Cayman Islands playboy image right in Mitts face.
BuzzFeed points out that W. will give the keynote address to the Cayman Islands Alternative Investment Summit, which goes down on Grand Cayman Island November 1-2, less than a week before the presidential election. The other keynote speaker will be the UKs most famous billionaire playboy, Virgins Richard Branson, who owns his very own island not so far from Grand Cayman.
The Summits site says the event will bring together the worlds leading institutional investors, fund managers, academics, economists and regulators in the Cayman Islandsthe worlds leading domicile for investment fundsto discuss and debate the fundamentals of a vibrant future for the alternative investments industry.
To most Americans, this is a pretty simple equation: Cayman Islands + alternative investments = sketchy.
George Ws Cayman keynote is just the latest in a long string of reminders about Romneys ultra-rich status and possibly sketchy behavior and hes not getting a lot of help from the people around him.
Just last week former GOP candidate Tim Pawlenty left Rommeys campaign in a high-profile departure to become a lobbyist for the banking industry, and promptly said that banks should just be allowed to regulate themselves. Last week Romney released his 2011 tax returns which showed him paying a 14% tax rate, and if the hackers who claim to have stolen his earlier records werent bluffing and havent been paid a ransom, they may release even more of Romneys returns tomorrow.
Accidental or not, somehow the messaging around Mitts millions seem to be the most consistent the GOP is able to construct around Romney.
Under Bush, taxes were cut, and more than hundreds of thousands of jobs were created for Americans. Bush is a pro-life patriot who supported our military and took the battle to the Moslems. I agree with you that he was too nice to the ChiComs and the illegals at the Rio Grande. And he was way too nice to the Democrats. But there's just no comparison between GW and what went before him and came after him.
Romney is in PA saying that budget cuts will cost a lot of jobs, while the Dems say all you have to do is make a deal to raise taxes on "the rich" so we can continue spending. I think neither side has the guts to control spending, and if they did, there might be enough voters who want to protect their "Obama Money" to destroy any party that actually would stop the fiscal bleeding.
If it’s legal to put your money in the Caymans, why is there anything wrong with doing it? If people have a problem, they should criticize whoever makes it legal, not the people who take advantage of it. Have Obama, Pelosi and Reid done anything to change the laws about putting money in the Caymans? Why do they get a free pass from people who are against it then?
I think Bill Clinton's Romney's role model. He seems to praise him all the time, including his DNC speech. Romney could perhaps try to counter the dishonest points Clinton made in the speech, but instead he's done nothing but praise it and say Obama's lucky to have Clinton speak on his behalf.
“...So here GWB jumps in and reminds voters of those great eight years,...”
I don’t know about this...seems to me, and from conversations I’ve had with folks...compared to this f***ing clown we have right now, a lot of folks are downright NOSTALGIC for Dubya.
Even if he had some messed up policies, a lot of people still believed he was decent guy - especially after watching our current Affirmative Action appointee and his big mouth wife.
Might not be a bad thing after all.
We’ll see in November....
The budget cuts that the Boehner House rammed through.
Taxing the rich (the R opposition to) as a response to proposed budget cuts is a populist idea and somewhat effective. The fact that it doesnt collect much revenue or that Obama didnt want to do it till Boehner took over doesnt seem to make it less effective. That is why GWB and T Delay gave everyone candy, not tax increases and no cuts. Tax cuts and spending increases both together keep everyone happy.
As I say, Romney is a walking living ad for taxing the rich. He is the wrong person for this. Dems couldnt have wished up anyone better.
All your solid always vote R REPUBLICAN folks? That might be like polling only the members of Rush 24/7. That would be a bad method. I have yet to meet one person who voted for Obama who today says he will vote for Romney. They could stay home though.
I dont know if you are really serious about this or just making a point about hating O.
But GWB is the kiss of death, that is why they let him no-where near the RNC, while Obama used Clinton as the model picture to sell voters to vote for him. I dont even have to get into Bush specifics to show that, the R party does it for me. Clinton is the Dem (lib)Reagan, GWB is the R Carter.
It sounds like you think all these polls are fiction and that Romney would be elected if it was held today.
I doubt Bush talking to some jerks on an island will make any difference one way or the other.
I hate his guts but I’m ready to give him a third term right now. Bush is pretty much Romney I guess, maybe he’s a little more competent at the cost of being less conservative on abortion and gays, they seem to be the same inept communicators.
I just want his imperial bombastity Queen Baraq gone and his supporters in tears. I want to see the tears.
George W. Bush, the liberal Republican.
You got me going, claiming GWB is looked upon fondly by most will do that.
come on guys, you really think if Bush left in 2009 with the economy soaring and the country at peace that the MSM woulfd have convinced voters to put Obama/Reid and Pelosi in charge to pass Obama-care??
You forget How we got those three?
GWB is the reason we have Obama in the first place.
I’m thinking about the future not the past. If Romney effs up as bad as Bush there is no good outcome. 4 more of Clinton wasn’t a good outcome and didn’t work out to the advantage of congressional Republicans because the economy was good and people liked the son of a itch and thought it was cool how he got head in the Oval Office. Scalia and Thomas are old, if one of them croaks, oh boy. Even if it’s a GOP Senate it will have Brown and Kirk and Collins and Murkowski and the rest don’t have to stones to fillibuster for 4 years.
Re congress though I’m bullish on 2014 no matter who is President. The 2014 Senate map is bad for democrats, even if they hold it this time they lose seats in 2014, and they aren’t gonna win back all those conservative seats they had to have to control the House so that will be hard for them as well, they aren’t even trying to take it this time, they know they can’t, House elections are what the GOP put it’s A-game efforts into. They have to hope their magic “brown wave” comes in.
But anyway forget that, that’s not why I want Obama to lose who cares about that analytical stuff, I’m petty. I want to DRINK the tears of schoolchildren who’s parents made them love Obama.
HATE HATE HATE HATE, I don’t care if Romney destroys the country. I don’t want to see Queen Barry, I don’t want to hear his voice. Let Alec Baldwin be unhappy for a couple months.
That's the way I see it, at least at the present time.
It sounds like you think all these polls are fiction and that Romney would be elected if it was held today.
Even Rasmussen shows Romney behind overall, and Rasmussen also has Obama ahead in Ohio, Virginia, and Florida, though not by much.
A major component of the hope for Romney is the debates, and I predicted that we will have a better idea after they are over. However, some of Romney's statements, like the recent one that budget cuts will cause job losses, may trip him up. Of course, Obama has made plenty of idiotic statements, but apparently, the same standards don't apply to him.
Although recent Presidential elections have conformed to poll averages pretty well, unlikely events occur once in a while.
“..It sounds like you think all these polls are fiction and that Romney would be elected if it was held today...”
No, not saying that at all, bro.
I’m just saying that whole country isn’t on Free Republic, and not everybody thinks Bush was a bad President.
I hear comments from people all the time to the effect that “Well, I wasn’t crazy about Bush, but THIS guy is a mess...”
“..GWB is the R Carter...”
Yeah, to some folks he is. But like I said, there’s a lot of people that thought he was a decent guy that made some stupid decisions, if somewhat “dim” (as the media painted him 24-7-365).
“...I hate his guts but Im ready to give him a third term right now. ...”
I don’t hate the guy; he pissed me off with his “compassionate conservatism” (Lib Lite), but that’s who he is.
Would I give him a third term? Good question...compared to the imperial douchebag, yeah.
Compared to, say Reagan, no.
But he isn’t running. We are we are, and...well, you know the rest.
That’s just the “Miss Mary Contrary” in you coming out!!! Hahaha!!
When Bush left, the Dems were controlling the purse strings - Senate and House - and crashed the housing market.
Then they successfully blamed what WASN’T Bush’s fault - as well as what was - on him; and their little media trolls were ripping him to shreds 24-7, round the clock. Which is glaringly absent now with our clown in chief.
He never fought back. Which again pissed me off. I can’t stand that. At least have surrogate attack dogs out there that will go after the guys. He didn’t.
Yeah, he gave us the TSA, Homeland Security, etc., etc., and the things I feared would happen - i.e., a whack-job Demo Marxist getting control of that apparatus - did happen.
I know you can’t stand the guy, but I just don’t have THAT level of hatred towards him.
Especially in light of THIS POS.
At any rate...Hale signing out. Gotta go make dinner for la familia...
Probably be on later. You can yell at me some more about Bush then!! Ha!
I see some nostaliga for W on my facebook page and want to puke.
