Waiting till the wedding night – getting married the right way
Fox News ^ | 9-14-12 | Steven Crowder

Posted on 09/15/2012 12:00:12 PM PDT by STARWISE

As anyone who’s read my abstinence column here at Fox News Opinion could guess, my wedding is something that I’ve looked forward to for quite some time. After having tied the knot at the end of August, I can now say beyond all shadow of a doubt, that it was everything I’d hoped and prayed that it would be since childhood. (I’d also prayed to be bitten by a radioactive spider and develop sticky hands, but… I was an idiot.)

Let me preface this column by saying this: my wife (I have to get used to saying that) and I not only waited sexually in every way (no, we didn’t pull the Bill Clinton and technically avoid “sex” sex,) but we didn’t shack up as live-ins and most importantly, we courted each other in a way that was consistent with our publicly professed values.

We did it right.

Feeling judged? I couldn’t care less. You know why? Because my wife and I were judged all throughout our relationship. People laughed, scoffed and poked fun at the young, celibate, naive Christian couple.

My Japanese wife and I didn’t wait until the wedding night , but we did wait until we were engaged , and she is the only woman I have ever gone “ all the way “ with .

Apparently, that makes you a cad and your wife a whore. According to some on this thread. Insane.

50 year anniversary today and believe me, it had nothing to do with what we did or did not do before our wedding.

Happy Anniversary, co-inciding with my birthday, I guess that makes it especially fortuitous!

And yet, if your daughters don’t choose this path....

will you denounce them as harlots and whores? That seems to be the gist of this article and the many of the comments.

I like this and its a nice article, but why can’t we have some honest dialogue with young people as to why premarital sex doesn’t make sense? There is the religious aspect which I of course agree with. But let’s talk pragmatics too.

The pragmatics, getting a child, a disease, a deranged stalker, of irresponsible sex are less serious than the spiritual ramifications, if you believe in God.

Sex without love is congruous with taking a crap or sneezing or popping a zit.

I generally feel sad for grownups who do that, trying to glorify their stupid rutting.

If anyone thinks I am judging them, yes, I am.

Point is talking to young people from a strictly religious point of view is not going to do it in most cases. You need to use every tool in your arsenal.

All who care about them and their Christian example of being moral, as The LORD commands, should say prayers for them. Not to bring up a nasty subject, but Satan and his minions will attempt to attack Christians who are good examples much more strenuously than people who live immoral life styles.

May The LORD bless them and keep them in every way, in Jesus Holy Name, Amen.

In almost all cases, you will find that the children of conservatives and Christians remain virgins until they are married.”

Statistics, unfortunately, show otherwise.

Bluntly, churches are not doing their jobs. Cheap grace is no grace at all.

Premarital sex is rampant in the Bible Belt and in supposedly evangelical churches — and I don't mean just the backsliders and the lukewarm semi-committed people in the pews, or on the other hand, the people who have been converted out of a life of wickedness and truly repented of their prior activities.

Much of that is happening because churches — even evangelical churches — are focused on fun and games in youth groups rather than focusing on hard and blunt teachings of how awful sin really is.

Our modern level of rampant sexual immorality inside the church isn't just the fault of godless culture, though it certainly doesn't help. It's primarily the fault of elders and of pastors, and also of fathers who should be the last line of defense even if churches are teaching cheap grace. Yes, it's the kids who are doing it, but they would be doing it less often if the church and the family were doing their jobs.

Is Steven Crowder more moral because he boasts of his ‘self control’? Is all pre-marital sex ‘promiscuous’? Does a single instance consign a woman to ‘bimbo-hood’ or a man to ... whatever the equivalent of bimbo-hood is? ‘Pre-marital’ and ‘promiscuous’ are nowhere near the same thing.”

Of course we need to be patient and forgiving with children of believers who have sinned and truly repent. The problem is that too many churches are not emphasizing that sin really is sin, and carries horrible consequences.

Yes, Steven Crowder is “more moral,” as you put it, for waiting to keep his zipper closed until making a lifelong vow to his wife before God. That doesn't mean he's sinless — not by any stretch of the imagination — but rather that he hasn't committed that particular sin. I'm sure he has a long list of other sins he's committed, and if he is a Bible-believing Christian, he repents of them continually, and knows that at any time Satan could throw something brand new at him that would cause him to fall into horrible and public sin.

Let's be honest — for Crowder to make a public statement like this about his personal morality opens up the floodgates for everyone who knows any dirt about his background to chime in and throw mud. It also opens up an avenue for Satan to tempt him and “take down” a prominent advocate for personal morality.

There was a day that Crowder’s practices were normal, and while exceptions happened, they were the exception and not the norm. That is no longer the case; sexual experimentation has become the norm, and not just sexual relationships between committed monogamous couples or engaged couples (which is bad enough) but serial relationships which **ARE** promiscuous by definition.

Our society is falling apart as a direct consequence of the resulting collapse of the family. As conservatives we need to remember that, and act accordingly.

Look what the so called sexual revolution has done to society and so many individuals, the ruthless murder of millions and millions of babies whom should have been safe in their mother's wombs, the spreading of venereal disease leading to many deaths, infertility and other medical problems, many broken hearts, low self esteem as the sexually permissive have no idea how special they are because of distributing themselves sexually to those who do not committedly love them, countless children raised by a single mother, without the extremely important role of a father closely in their lives, being separated from him, with all of the brokenness and problems that go along with being raised without a dad there. Also, the debauchery of the holy bond between a man and a woman has contributed to the debased homosexual practices of many. Many homosexuals also haven't been brought up with good role models of father and mother loving each other, so they became damaged emotionally and subject to this perverse life style. Sexual immorality has led our society down the slippery slope of more and more sexual perversion.

When people become morally compermised it doesn't stop at that part of their lives. Just look at the democrat party, full of people demanding special rights for homosexuals, celebrating it like it was a gift, and screaming for their "right" to kill their babies, and all kinds of other demands like the demands for lots of entitlements, because they want to have children and not have to take the responsibility for them, as they have celebrated their "right" to have all kinds of sex for mere pleasure, without wanting to take the responsibility for their actions. This attitude obviously bleeds over to their political point view, as well as all other areas of their lives, and ours. These are just a few of the problems associated with people thinking that they can have sex outside of the marriage bond, who think that they are smarter and know better than God their creator how it is that He created them to behave.

Don't you think it would be wise before God, to repent of being a part of it, as so many of us have been brainwashed into believing that a sexually immoral life is just fine, promoting it, and even defending it? All you have to do is own up to your sins and ask God to forgive you, admitting that you have erred, and stop feeling compelled to defend the indefensible, because you participated in it. You may think that it worked for you, but it really hasn't, and it certainly has been horrible for our Country, being destructive to so many individuals and society on the whole. The Bible says that we should abhor sin. It says that because it really is abhorrible in all of it's manifestations.

Thank you for your truthful and insightful comments. It is increasingly difficult for parents to raise children with standards of human decency and morality in a society which is nothing but a moral sewer. But that just means that people have to try harder. Public schools are pits.

Something I've observed...Generally coming from quasi-sophisticated liberals. They look at people such as the author with a knowing, smug smirk and start throwing around words such as "scared of life," "regressive," "strange," and my personal favorite, "sexually repressed."

On the cheezburger site (cute lolcats plus unfortunately a growing amount of mushy thinking and some unsavory stuff, I think the site owner is a BO supporter) there was a thread about abstinence. Some poster ridiculed the idea, but two other posters said they'd waited until marriage and were very glad they did. The first poster, in response, sniffed that abstinence was all well and good for people who were too stupid to figure out how to avoid STDs.

True story.

Good post. Also, the sexual revolution’s collateral damage has been to the beauty and ceremony of courtship, and to the hopes of many young women who still have the old-fashioned moral values: today’s sexual marketplace is not kind to them, as a young man of marriageable age is more apt to seek easy sexual adventure rather than a lifetime commitment. The women of easy sexual morals get dates and the good girls are left alone. Wendy Shalit (A Return to Modesty) pointed out as much.
