In defense of Clint Eastwood: He was weird, but fantastic
Yahoo ^

Go ahead. Vet my day. A fistful of incoherence. High slurs rambler. Every which way and loose.

Clint Eastwood, the 82-year-old movie star and director, inspired what seemed like enthusiasm inside the Republican National Convention's Tampa Bay Times Forum—and disbelief outside it and on Twitter.

Whatever you thought about him last night, to me, he delivered the best line of the convention. When he was speaking to everyone from every political view, “when someone doesn’t do the job, we gotta let’em go.”

I mean that just begs reasonable people on the left to accept reality. We know you wanted him to be great but deep down, you know what has to be done.

We havent heard Biden’s speech yet (the intellectual of the democrat party, as Eastwood noted)

That should be interesting

“I’m guessing he sort of winged it and was making it up as he went along.”

I read somewhere today that it was “unscripted”. It was a little strange, but I always forget that Eastwood did some comedies too, with that monkey side-kick.

But, he made the most important point - when someone isn’t getting the job done, you have to let them go.

And he is going to enjoy the DNC because chadwimc thought Clint was painful to watch. Are you serious Gene? Is this suddenly a lock step site and you did not send out the message. I tell you what. The problem with Clint’s speech last night is that everyone is talking about Clint’s speech and not Romney’s speech. That is a problem. Although I guess saying that must be an act against God in your eyes.

“The only problem is that everyone is talking Clint Eastwood and not Romney who should have been the main topic today.”

I agree with you on that.

It also made me wish for Don Rickles, I’d love to see him give Obama “what for” as my grandma used to say.

I would say it was right on the edge, and every time you thought he might drift and embarrass himself. He saved everything with a zappy punchline.

It was edgy, it was different, a tight rope act, but in the end he was great.

Much of the criticism plays into a pet peeve of mine- our society’s lack of respect for older people, who are a repository of wisdom, experience and talent.

The best line was that politicians are our employees.

And that maybe it’s time to try a businessman as president, and then he said “stellar businessman, quote unquote” - quoting Bill Clinton.

On the #Invisible Obama Twitter someone posted a very interesting question: Was the special guest at the convention REALLY Eastwood or the Invisible Obama?

Now that would be political jiu-jitsu at it's best!!

There was some Good, some Bad, and some Ugly. In all I’d say in a Perfect World it was worth a Fistful of Dollars and his Obama jokes a Few Dollars More though in Democratic circles he will be Unforgiven and they would love to Hang’em High.

I think we have a winner!!!!

I thought he was brilliant too! He reminded me of his character in Grand Torino.

I’m sure dopers were sitting around saying, “Say what?”!!!

"I couldn't care less"...It is impossible to care less.

Well there you have it:

Since it is impossible to care less, the statement "I couldn't care less" is therefore true.

Lol, I doubt that. Eastwood has been an actor for around sixty years. He was talking to an empty chair and obviously using humor to ridicule Obama. I expect he did exactly what he intended to do exactly as he intended to do it.

Agreed. I was doubled over laughing. An empty chair - what a great metaphor!

Yes it is. So when someone says “I could care less” when he really means “I COULDN’T care less”, I have taken it upon myself to point out the error of his ways. ‘Sawright?
