Michigan State Jewish student attacked at party, knocked unconscious; ADL "horrified by violent assault."
A Jewish student at Michigan State University said he was attacked at an off-campus party in what he is calling a hate crime.
Just before the assault, which broke his jaw, Zach Tennen said his attackers asked him if he was Jewish, according to reports.
Tennen, 19, a resident of suburban Detroit, said he answered in the affirmative. He told WDIV-TV in Detroit that his attackers also "were making Nazi and Hitler symbols and they said they were part of the KKK."
Tennen was knocked unconscious during the attack, which took place early Sunday morning near MSU's East Lansing campus. The assailants stapled his mouth shut through his gums.
Others at the party watched as Tennen called a taxi to take him to the hospital. His mouth was surgically wired shut.
His family has called the Anti-Defamation League regarding the assault.
ADL responded to the parents of the victim and were in contact with local law enforcement and university officials.
“We are horrified by this violent assault and allegations that the student may have been viciously attacked because he was Jewish,” said Betsy Kellman, ADL Detroit Regional Director.
“We are confident that the East Lansing Police will thoroughly investigate this deeply troubling case and, given the allegations, treat it as a possible hate crime. We hope the perpetrators will be swiftly brought to justice.”
The university in an email statement referred all questions about the police investigation to the East Lansing Police Department, as the incident occurred off campus.
"Michigan State University's Student Affairs and Services office has reached out to the family of the student who said he was assaulted in East Lansing to provide the academic and other support the student needs," the statement also said.

Zachary Tennen, a sophomore at Michigan State University, was approached by two men at a party early on Sunday and asked if he was Jewish, according to Tennen’s mother. The men proceeded to raise their right arms in a Nazi salute and said “Heil Hitler”, before beating Tennen unconscious. According to Tennen’s mother, 20 people watched while her son had his mouth stapled by the two suspects.
The ADL “has spoken to the parents of the victim, Zachary Tennen, a sophomore, and has been in contact with local law enforcement and university officials since first learning of the assault, which took place in the early morning hours of August 26 and reportedly was witnessed by other students,” according to a statement released by the group on Tuesday.
Michigan State has approximately 3,000 Jewish undergraduate students on campus, according to Hillel’s website.

Something tells me that the ADL & the SPLC are becoming a little nervous that the deluge of Black-on-White crime could lead to a resurgence of the KKK.
If one looks closely at the details given, this young man’s claims don’t quite add up. (One item that might not be well known is that the Heil Hitler salute is the right hand & the KKK salute is with the left hand)
I have a feeling this is gonna blow up in the kid’s face. I believe he got beat up by a couple of punks, but I’m betting the hate crime angle is BS.

Maybe his mom got the arm wrong, it’s irrelevant. Whether kluckers or neonazis, no difference. The nature of the assault, and the silence of the witness’, is reported in numerous sources.

Why would this blow up in the kids face? Are you suggesting that if they weren't kluckers, or even if he wasn't a Jew, it's OK? I see no circumstance at all that this could "blow up" in the kids face.

Yup. Michigan is a concealed carry state. Whether the assault was triggered because he’s a Jew which most articles state, a girlfriend or a couple drunks or whatever, you need to be able to defend yourself, because 20 bystanders won’t do a thing.

I’ll try to explain this in very simple terms. My theory: The kid went to a party where he didn’t know anybody. His friends left, he stayed. Two drunken punks, attacked him and nobody at the party helped. The cops interviewed people at the party and learned it was just a couple of punks who beat up a defenseless kid. This happens all the time and the punks would probably be charged with a misdemeanor. The Jewish kid was pissed (and rightfully so). He made up the part about the Nazi salute etc to really nail their asses. Unfortunately for him, the story went viral. When it’s revealed he made up the hate crime part, it will blow up in his face. Think about it. He didn’t know anyone at the party and two guys come up and ask if he’s Jewish? Was he wearing a yarmulke? Was he spouting Yiddish? Did he say he was a Hollywood producer?

I was a bouncer at a bar for a year while in uni. Seen stuff like this before. I suspect he was drunk, lipped off to the two wrong guys(possibly he started it), they beat the crap out of him and they stapled his mouth shut and the two guy out of being angry at him used the anti Jewish slurs after the fact.
I don't think they were out looking for Jews to pick on but it just progressed into bad language
