Look for the lawsuits to fly. Lefties are condemning the cops for firing at the gunman, despite the gunman getting ready to fire at them. They say the cops have no right to defend themselves when there are bystanders around.

Oh, lawd, here we go. I noticed at the Bloomie presser that he COMPLETELY took over the microphone. Ray Kelly was looking PISSED!

How many rounds did they squeeze into bystanders after the guy was dead? 10 feet seems close enough that that the first couple shots should have already done the job.

Prayers going up for those officers that the injured heal quickly and the officers can find peace after accidentally hurting bystanders. And thanks to them for standing on the front lines against the sub-human violent snakes in our communities.

Wouldn't our troops be court-martialled for shooting back with Afghan civilians around the shooter? I've heard that they are not allowed to shoot if civilians are nearby. Isn't that an Obama ROI?
I am not criticizing the policemen with that statement.

At a distance of 10 feet, 7 hits out of 16 shots comes to a 44% accuracy rate. 10 FEET! and the other 56% went where? We know that at least nine innocent bystanders were wounded in this shooting. And by coincidence the two heroes missed the killer nine times. I know that the NYPD is one of the most honored in the country, but this is unacceptable. Maybe they should be disarmed.
Live or visit New York City? Not me. It is too dangerous.

"Lefties are condemning the cops for firing at the gunman, despite the gunman getting ready to fire at them.Lefties BS! The distance was less than 10 feet and they had prior warning by the person that pointed the guy out to them. These arrogant clymers suck at what they do and should be sued.
"They say the cops have no right to defend themselves when there are bystanders around."
HOW ABOUT THE PEOPLE'S RIGHT TO DEFEND THEMSELVES! They're there to serve and protect, not to shoot up the plainly visible background.

Myself in that situation; summer time would be a bit of a problem when light clothing forces me to a .380. Winter time I always have a .40. But at 10 feet, no matter the weapon, it WILL be a head shot. No sense concerning yourself with center of mass at that distance. At 10 feet a human head is equivalent to the outer ring at 25 yards.
Unfortunately, this had to be spray and pray, nobody could possible have had a front sight picture at that distance and not dropped the guy immediately.

Just how stupid are NYPD cops anyway? Shooting into a crowd?? No wonder people are having less and less confidence in LEO’s. Good God what morons!!! Reminds me of the scene in “It’s A Wonderful Life” where the cop started shooting down the street with people walking along the street. And of course Bloomie will say it was justified.

Someone in the crowd must've been walking a dog.
Snarkiness aside, some cops are in dire need of training/range time, it would appear.

I wonder what they were shooting. It kind of sounds as if they were using 9mm, They pass right through a body and require lots of hits to get a knock-down.

can't fault the cops in this one. They did what they had to do. wish they were a little more proficient with their firearms. One looks like he was about 10 ft the other maybe about 15 ft. 7 out of 16 shots on target is not too good but the guy pulled his weapon and was either firing or about to and the cops didn't look like they were expecting it. with better training maybe the one would have had two hands on the grip and better form instead of squeezing of rounds like that. Admittedly easy for me to say when no one is firing at me

As long as the cops don't have to worry about shooting bystanders they should have sub-machine guns instead of pistols. Hose the crowd from ten feet away and they're almost certain to get the bad guy.

This event just confirms a recent study of FBI data that you're more likely to be shot by the cops — when they show up — than by the perp.
Makes me want to surrender my guns (if I had any). How about you.
