Huckabee digs in behind Akin
Politico ^ | // | Alexander Burns

Todd Akin hasn't had many high-profile supporters with him in the trenches this week, but Mike Huckabee became an important and emphatic exception Thursday afternoon, sending a message to his own supporters accusing Republican elites of trying to drum a good man out of a winnable Senate race. Here's what Huckabee said in an email to his list this afternoon:

Party’s leaders have for reasons that aren't rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound.

I would love to see Todd Akin win so that he could say “Screw you” to the Republican establishment.

Me too! But now if he loses we cannot blame the Republican establishment. We took ownership of his likely defeat by standing by him after his political blunder.

Hope that he wins because if he does not. We own the results of that defeat.

No, it adds up to the fact that this is politics and if a politician is "railroaded", he's a bad politician and never should have gotten as far as he did.

We just may have railroaded ourselves.

I will not put my faith in Huckabee’s basket.

LordMcCain with Sarah's help won Missouri by a hair in 2008. Do you remember how it was that Claire beat Talent back in 2006?

I totally agree up till Akin shot off his mouth the majority of independents were leaning to the ‘right’. I do not believe that is the case right this minute. Romney's whole primary campaign was to, for and about getting the independents. BUT to try and pacify the base he got Ryan to be his running mate. And along comes Akin and basically created the worst ‘bad’ press all by himself than all the Republicans together have generated out side of Obama cheap shots.

Oh, let me be clear here, I have yet to decide IF I will vote for Romney come November. IF Akin is the only option I will vote for him.

Time will tell if the wound is fatal.

Let's hope his supporters have a Plan B because time is not on our side. America "as we know it" depends on whoever is in control of that campaign to know how to fight and win. If they cannot fight and win, they should not be there in the first place.

Time will tell indeed.

The canonical gospels of Matthew and Luke describe Mary as a virgin (Greek παρθένος, parthénos).[2] Traditionally, Christians believe that she conceived her son miraculously by the agency of the Holy Spirit. Muslims believe that she conceived by the command of God. This took place when she was already betrothed to Saint Joseph and was awaiting the concluding rite of marriage, the formal home-taking ceremony.[3] She married Joseph and accompanied him to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born.[4] In keeping with Jewish custom, the betrothal would have taken place when she was around 12, and the birth of Jesus about a year later.[5]

How about we STOP being cowards.
I am so sick of conservatives, shutting up.
The press does not like us, the GOPe does not like us, liberals do not like us - unless of course we shut up.
It’s time we yell conservatism, not whisper it.
You whisper if you wish, that is your right, we all have different talents given to us by God, mine is not shutting up.
I have been threatened, my child has been threatened, my husband has been threaded, you know what when I shut up nothing changed.
If we can not stand, we have no right to call ourselves conservatives.
Stand, move forward or get the hell outa the way.

Common sense would say that a rape exception is unnecessary for minors under the age consent. One of the main purposes of statutory rape and age of consent laws is to prevent pregnancy in minors who are too physically immature to give birth safely.

So all pregnancies resulting from statutory rape whether assault or consensual would (or could) be covered by statute by a health exception, making a rape exception redundant.

The pregnant twelve year old rape victim example is a straw man argument and does nothing to support the argument that a rape exception is necessary to protect the “chilrun”.

“The Akin Assault by the GOP is not just another indication that social conservatives are unwelcome in the Republican Party.”

Truer words have not been spoken. If the gop made even one third of the effort against the dems that it has thrown against Todd Akin in the last week, heck, they’d already have control of the Senate.

It’s times like this when you find out who the phonies are and who the actual conservatives are. It’s depressing to see the large number of folks on FR howling for Akin to throw in the towel.

Sometimes what needs to be said can be better said through song. So to the sunshine conservatives of the gop and FR, I’d like to dedicate this song from the movie Jesus Christ Superstar:

No woman in history has ever carried a baby to term without her "health" being endangered.

I do not disagree. So in the event it comes down to the life of the mother or the life of the child are you saying that woman should die?

FWIW Mary was probably 12 or 13 when she carried Jesus to term.

Please provide evidence. You are the first person I have ever read to make such a claim.

The guy implodes only a few days after the primary.

If he insists on staying in, how many more implosions is he going to uncork?

“OUR COUNTRY IS AT STAKE”

But it’s fate is not going to be determined by whether willard or hussein win this election. That’s a lose/lose proposition no matter how you slice it. So what’s your stake in this?

Courage has become a rather rare commodity on FR of late. This website has been overrun with willard apologists and faux conservatives who don the conservative mantle when it’s convenient, and dump it in the nearest ditch when it isn’t.

“Hopefully Santorum and Jindal will respond positively as well.”

Don’t hold your breath. But these sorts of controversies are useful in that they tend to flush out the gop bootlickers and faux conservatives.
