Who Will Stick With Todd Akin
Christian Science Monitor ^ | Patrik Jonsson

The purse strings have tightened as Rep. Todd Akin has defied top Republicans, staying in the Missouri Senate race amid controversy over his views on rape and abortion.

The Senate campaign committee has revoked the $5 million it designated for Representative Akin, and key fundraising events have been canceled. Republican operators like Karl Rove have withdrawn support from Akin’s campaign.

So who will stick with him?

In a bid to steer his campaign back on course, Akin has begun appealing to social conservatives, religious pro-family groups, and high-profile politicos (even if publicly, they’re steering clear of him right now).

A sign that his appeals could work: The Boone County Republican Central Committee, which is representative of Missouri’s more-moderate demographics, declined on Tuesday night to call for Akin to step down.

Also, for now at least, polls show him still ahead of the embattled incumbent in the race – Sen. Claire McCaskill, a “blue dog” Democrat who earned the nickname “Obama-Claire” after backing national health-care reform.

Akin is leading in the polls. Do you want a Republican to win this race? If so, you better get behind Todd Akin. As should be obvious to everyone by now, the man is a fighter. If you want McCaskill to win, just keep whining.

Ann Coulter says “Dump him and write in Bond”. That tells me we should get behind him. She actually said that we need a “conservative” in that seat. I guess she doesn’t think we need a conservative in the WH.

Quite frankly, I'm sick of this crap. A few weeks ago, half the posts on FR all had to do with queers, gays, lesbians and transgendered weirdos.

Anyway, Palin is backing Sarah Steelman and I'd go with her suggestion on the matter.

I’ll stand with any true pro life conservative and will NEVER EVER vote for a “moderate” again. Moderates are going to get the same treatment they give to conservatives.

This has very little to do with Right to Life, IMO. It has to do with an idiot who by his ill timed and inadvised remarks put control of the Unites States Senate at risk to Conservatives writ large as well as to the Right to Life segment.

I suspect that the idiots will flock to his defense. Serious Conservatives will do what it takes to defeat McCaskill and send Akin off to the obscure retirement that he so richly deserves.

Akin is leading in the polls.

Yeah a left leaning PPP poll weighted to have Akin lead by 1 point.

Give it up, the only people who want the self-absorbed Akin to stay in the race, are the minority of conservatives, who are standing on "principle" that a raped woman can shut down her reproductive process, and the vast majority of democrats who want to keep ass clown Todd Akin in, so that they can keep hope alive.

Well, I disagree with Ann on this one, but her involvement does add some needed testosterone to the anti-Akin lynch mob. Romney, Rove, Hannity and the other girls in their gang need a fighter like Ann.

Because if Akin is anything, he’s a fighter. He’s whipping them all single-handed.

And, before too long, the anti-Akin mob will be back to support Akin. They have no choice.

It’s so unfair it seems. Democrat Senators behind bad science like warmism and allegedly water polluting fracking, and they get jillions of votes. Akins voices a bogus sexological opinion and oh boy, the earth is going to cave in.

I’ve yet to see anyone point out how this can be a golden opportunity to draw drastically distinct lines between the Republican platform and the Democrat platform. Akin came simply come out and say “I’m pro-life, period. I may have bee inarticulate, but claire is pro-death period, and wants YOUR tax money to pay for abortions.” Or something like that.

He is very clearly conservative, pro-life, and very Missourian. Claire is very clearly, screamingly pro-abortion, pro-Obamacare, and needs to be kicked out of that office. No one complains about HER stupid statements.

Yeah, one might even say he's legitimately raping 'em!

Absolutely. How bad is Akin’s mistake compared to the Democrat’s global warming “science” and all the other fraudulent garbage that they try to pass off as knowledge? With that as a backdrop, Akin should hang for putting the words legitimate and rape too close together in a sentence. Everyone knows (or should know) what he meant. He meant only that he is pro-life without exception in all cases at all times.

I am going to step back a minute and watch Akin. These rushes to judgement...exactly like those that destroyed Herman Cain, have got to stop. And if we join them, our bad. I was taught to think for myself. And that is exactly what I will do.

Get back to me, when global warming rapes a woman.

You Akin guys are really grasping at straws.

1 poll from PPP - not too suspicious, huh? Demo-favorable polling outfit pulls a complete 180 on its sampling methodology shifting from their traditional D+8-12 to R+9 (IIRC) for this poll. Shazam!! Akin in the lead!! Just like Akin’s “victory” - a plurality stimulated by Dem votes and Dem $$ plus McCaskill’s jui-jitsu advertising (”Akin’s tooooooo extreme and conservative”) in the GOP primary. Can’t we see that the GOP in Mo. got jobbed? McC and the Dems nationwide wanted this guy and worked hard to get him in. Sure enough, it didn’t take long for him to deliver a gift-wrapped opportunity for the DemoMarxists to snatch victory from the jaws of what appeared to be a certain defeat. This egomaniac has no perspective and apparently does not appreciate the potential disaster he has wrought on his state and the country.

Hell yes, Sarah Steelman!!!!!! Todd Akin may have some support, but he has made himself nothing more than a door stop in the Senate should he beat McCaskill... That’s a good name for him, Doorstop Akin...

Akin is leading in the polls.

Just my two cents worth but I stand to be corrected if wrong. Surely there could have been a snap poll of voters in Akin's territory. If done properly and honestly and worded right, an idea could be gained about his prospects.

What we have is the juggernaut of a mainly corrupt news media, aided and abetted by the devious and razor sharp politicians of the other party. Sadly others have bought into this. I have not seen one iota of real proof that the avalanche predicted by the MSM will happen.

Of course, there is a danger of some of the electorate actually falling for this tactic. I was amused at the statements by Hannity and Coulter driving home the dictate of their adversaries. These two persons are able to carry on their various programs of giving THEIR views. The First Amendment to the Constitution guarantees that.

What of Akin`s right to free speech. The politically correct are bent on destroying part of the Constitution. This is proof of that.
