Ann Coulter to Todd Akin: If You're Really Pro-Life, You'll Drop Out of the Senate Race
Weekly Standard ^ | 8/20/12 | John McCormack

Posted on 08/20/2012 1:23:10 PM PDT by SoFloFreeper

In response to Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin's bizarre comments about abortion and rape, conservative columnist Ann Coulter is calling on Akin to resign for the good of his country and the pro-life cause:

Dems spent @ $2 million on ads boosting Todd Akin in the primary, according to the NYT - nyti.ms/Rc4sbh Pls withdraw @ToddAkin!

we will rally around Akin as GOP hero if he withdraws for the good of the country. Roe is at stake!

Well, this is like the end of the Nixon presidency.

Congratulations to the leftists and the bedwetters. You've turned nearly the entire Republican nation: establishment AND "grassroots" against a 5 or 6 term staunch conservative...over a damn gaffe.

Get ready for more of the same....'cause it will never, EVER stop.

I reluctantly call upon Akin to withdraw, as with conservatives like Ann Coulter calling upon him to withdraw, he'll have no safe wing to defend him.

Pretty sad when a pro-life Republican is run out of the race by his own party...and by many who claim to hate Romney because they say he ISN'T pro-life.

Dems circle the wagons around their candidates when they get in trouble. Republicans run their wagons off the cliff.

I don’t know anything about this guy....but....he said something incredibly stupid that the lib-holes and their MSMwhores can pound him into dust with. He can’t recover from this. So if he doesn’t withdraw, it’s an easily winnable seat that will get away. He can’t win, and its self inflicted. The right thing to do is to make way for someone who can win.

What Mr Akin is almost as bad as Dan Quayle misspelling “potatoe”!

If the Mitt Romney / Chris Christie drone Ann Coulter says to do something, it’s probably wise to do the opposite.

Well, Ann, if you were really pro-life you wouldn’t be such kneepadder for Mutt Romney and Christie Creme. Would you?

Wellll... actually Dan Quayle didn’t misspell potato. He corrected a child (who spelled it correctly during a spelling bee) because he relied on the card given him by the school that included the misspelling. He said he was uncomfortable with their spelling, but decided to go with what was on the card. As always, there’s more to the story, but the media didn’t want to push the real version and so the “Dan Quayle doesn’t even know how to spell potato!” version is what everyone recalls.

He didn't say anything that isn't at least arguable.

Too many cowards in this party - you don't run from a barking dog.

From the NY Times article cited by Ann:

“Mr. Akin, 65, won the Senate Republican primary this month with strong support from Missouri’s religious conservatives. But he was also helped by Ms. McCaskill, whose campaign spent nearly $2 million on ads portraying Mr. Akin as ultraconservative. It was a clear attempt to bolster his candidacy among more conservative primary voters while gambling that the independents and moderate Republicans needed to win the election would be turned off by his views on social issues.”

So score this one for the Dims they played it well and Akin stepped right into it.

. . .as with conservatives like Ann Coulter calling upon him to withdraw. . .

Ann's much more of an establishment Pubbie than a real conservative, at least recently. She hasn't exactly behind the conservative candidates in the Presidental primary.

Do you really want to have an argument on what rape is or isn’t and whether or not women will get pregnant? Are you for real? That’s the sort of conversation Obama and Co would LOVE to have. In that case they’d end up with the majority of the public on their sides, with the GOP looking like a bunch of kooks, with the economy and all the other issues having fallen to the wayside and Obama cruising to re-election.

Seriously? There’s a tiny bitter minority of like 9 or 10 posters here that are having trouble with reality and lashing out at everyone else rather than accepting the truth, that Akin made a stupid comment and there is no going back from that.

The rest of us are trying to figure out how to preserve an easily winnable Senate seat, not getting into some weird discussion of women’s “systems that shut pregnancy down.”

He can’t recover from this

Sure he can. . .if people like Ann and other so-called conservatives would stop trying to throw him under the bus. The MSM and the Dems (not to mention the establishment Pubbies) are loving all the "conservatives" attacking Akin.

Here's a question for you.

Where did you see any of what you are charging me with in my post?

He said what he said. What good does crucifying this guy do us?

Whether he’s pro-life is not the issue, the issue is whether he’s a good candidate, and a good spokesperson for the pro-life and other conservative causes.

It’s obvious he’s not. He might be a fine person, and he might have great conservative credentials. Those are not the only qualities of a good candidate.

Conservatives are not piling on him because they want to placate the media. They are piling on him because they realize there is urgency because there is a small window of time to exert pressure in order to get him replaced on the ballot.

I sure ain't no doctor!

But, what happens if the act of rape releases immediately reacting chemicals into a woman's body, something like super adrenaline, or estrogen, or testosterone, or whatever antigen that attacks the unwanted sperm.

Again, I ain't no doctor, but what if this guy's correct???
