An NRSC source just confirmed to me what various outlets have been reporting: if Todd Akin remains the senate candidate, NRSC will invest no financial resources into the Missouri senate race. Previously, NRSC had planned to spend $5 million.
And Crossroads has already taken some TV ads off the air, reports Politico.
If Akin does remain in the race, hes going to be relying, it appears, virtually exclusively on whatever his campaign raises, without any financial help from outside groups.
Yes, but part of being a good campaigner is that you think before you speak, and you never say anything in a way that can be sound-bited to make you look bad, especially if you’re a Republican and you know that media is out to get you. Who can forget the whole “Machacha” incident?
But this is true even if you’re not a Republican, just look at how much mileage Republicans are getting out of the “You didn’t build that” comment. Obama is just fortunate that the media covers for him so the fallout is not as bad.
To me this is more a issue about Akin just being a bad candidate, who talks before he thinks it through, which will probably manifest itself in other ways during the campaign.
Pregnancy from actual rape is rare.
The medical profession has become highly political, by the way. They often lie these days, and the professional organizations are generally under the control of libtards thanks to affirmative action.
In context, “legitimate” means “actual”. Many women lie about rape. I bet you could figure out the first part and know the second part.
Believe it or don’t but I read the article after I made the post and learned there was $5 million promised. : )
As I’ve said, in this thread “stupidity” is weenie conservative speak for “I don’t have the balls to stand up against libtards who may call me names.” The kind of person who thinks that Akin’s comment was a “gaffe” probably also believes Mittens when he says he’s a conservative.
Look..I just listened to the man on Hannity. He sounded like an idiot. If you think this man is the best we can do to advance conservative ideals and get this country back on track financially and morally you are sadly mistaken. We can do much better. Now he threatens to take the whole hope of taking the senate and congress back a much bigger problem to boot.
I know what he was trying to say. I have also heard the theory put forth that pregnancy is less likely if its a forcible, violent rape as opposed to, say, a date that went bad. But he seems to have forgotten the first rule of holes... when you get to the bottom, stop digging.
He’s running from show to show trying to explain himself, and doing a lousy job of it. He sounds like more of an idiot after the fact than he did when he made the initial comment.
” Akin just appeared on Huckabee and defiantly vowed to remain in til the bitter end.”
.... or 5 PM tomorrow whichever comes first.
I don’t care what this guy has for an explanation. He NEEDS to be thrown under the bus, TODAY.
This has to be as bad of a blunder as a candidate can make. He said it, it’s out there, and he’s done. Remaining in the race is a free seat for the dems, and this year the Congressional+Senate seats are more important than ever, because no matter whomever wins the presidency, we’re gonna have a liberal in office. They will need to be held in check.
The Pubbie establishment is at it again.
As I recall, John Brunner was second and Steelman was third. So, not sure how things would work if he did drop out, but I doubt Steelman would be on the ballot.
:::sigh::: That isn't what he said. Severe stress often prevents conception. It isn't just in situations of rape where that occurs.
Apparently, there are an awful lot of FReepers who don't know a soul who ever had trouble conceiving and had the doctor tell that person to lower their stress level so that they could conceive more easily. I've known plenty, and that advice worked in almost every single case where there was no underlying medical problem. And in those cases where the woman was undergoing fertility treatments, the doctors have told them to keep stress levels as low as possible to increase the chance of conception.
But of course, these doctors don't know anything. Some FReepers, the Pubbie establishment, and the MSM are obviously much more knowledgeable.
Todd Akin's idiocy is now international news.
If the MO GOP can force him out, they should. If they can't, someone on the right should mount a write-in campaign.
LOL :) I could retire if I had a dime for every time I’ve done that!
He IS a selfish jackass if he stays in ...I can’t believe he’s got advisors who would tell him it’s worth hanging tough. Not for this. Sometimes I think it IS better for us to hang tight if it’s a real principle at stake. It depends on a lot of things, but in this case? Pffttt...there is no defense for this- and further- if this is indicative of how he thinks- we really don’t want him in the Senate.
Haha. Yes they did, though I don’t think that was the same election cycle.
I see that it was Zinga in IL-17 in 2006 and Ozinga in IL-11 in 2008. Had they both been successful (which probably would have been the case had they run in 2010 instead), we could have had them co-sponsor a Zinga-Ozinga Act, which surely would have passed both houses irrespective of its content. How could anyone vote against something called the Zinga-Ozinga Act?
That is why democrats win elections. They support each other when mistakes are made. Until we fight like they do, Dems will continue to win
What a mess is right. What was he doing so completely off message anyway? He needs to drop out now. So this can quickly be forgotten.
