A Democratic state House hopeful who was accidentally outed as a bisexual by a party colleague earlier this year has withdrawn from his race.
Nate Murphy of Pocatello had sought election in District 29.
In March, he was accidentally outed after Idaho's only openly gay lawmaker, Sen. Nicole LeFavour of Boise, told The New York Times that Murphy would be taking up her legacy.
Murphy's former campaign manager, Ryan Hand, said personal issues prompted the 23-year-old candidate's departure from the race, not the outing.
Murphy also had faced questions about a marijuana conviction five years ago.
Hand declined to provide specifics behind the decision to exit the race, and Murphy didn't return a phone call.
Southeastern Idaho Democrats are seeking a replacement for Murphy to run against Republican Dave Bowen.
This probably saved us from several dozen new corollaries to Murphy’s Law.
Why the long face?
I was about to say since when is doubling his odds of getting laid a dis qualifier for the Democrats. Then you posted his photo and realized he probably never stood a chance in the first place. He’s still got the 2008 Obama stare. He needs 10 years or so of community organizing under his belt.
A 23-year-old Congressman?
I guess he wouldn’t have needed the last few years of his parents’ health coverage.
Queer potheads are the vanguard of the Democrat Party.
As he (it?) should! The last thing America needs right now is to turn Washington into a circus freak show. Sheesh! The Key Stone Cop thing is bad enough!
Phew—I see you’re right.
Somehow reading the third word in the story must have been too arduous a task for me...
do you really think this would embarrass a Democrat?
I wonder if Murphy ever responded to an inquiry by saying, "Talk to the Hand."
We have been instructed that all homos, lesbos and convertibles are proud of their abnormalty.
Now this guy/gal is running from it.
eeegads....didn’t know there were deviants in Idaho!!!!!! was thinking of moving there.
This district is in S. Idaho, which is very conservative.
How does bisexuality play into gay marriage? You’d either have to be a polygamist or be unfaithful to your “spouse” (as if faithfulness had any role in these relationships).
This article might be intended to highlight the "intolerance" of heavily Mormon South Idaho.
Well, we did have Larry Craig. That'd be the guy who taught the entire nation what a men's-room tapdance meant. I've been very careful to keep my feet still on the throne ever since.
LOL. I've never thought about that. Homosexual polygamy does put the homos in a bind. In order for them to get their "right" to have a piece of paper that claims their kinky sex fetishes are "normal", they'd need to legalize polygamy, too.
UGH! Where does the madness end?
Is this a state position he was running for? U S Congresspersons have to be at least 25 years old.
Epic fail. I'm sure the nation agrees with his decision (overwhelmingly).
Does south Idaho have a Chi Fil A? Quick! Check the drive through! :D
So much for Article I Section 2: "No Person shall be a Representative who shall not have attained to the Age of twenty five Years..."
What's with the Democrats running Constitutionally ineligible candidates these days?
If you're moving to the Pokey area, have an occupation in mind. Make sure you can support yourself. Jobs are scarce (that's why I've had to support my family for the last 3 years working in San Diego). The tax base is small (small population), so the welcome mat isn't out for welfare. Even the "homeless" know to leave town by September 1st when the temperatures outside become inhospitable. We don't run homeless shelters...it just encourages the practice.
What part of “state House hopeful” says “Washington” to you?
He was a STATE House candidate. Notice the THIRD word of the article?
He’s running for Idaho STATE House
Talk to an avowed bisexual and they'll tell you they fall for individuals regardless of gender. In a state with "gay marriage" they'd be able to pair off with the same gender if that happened to describe who they settled upon or they'd be able to pair off in any state if committed to someone of the opposite sex.
Would most women want to marry a bisexual man or an "ex-gay" (if such a thing exists), would a father want that for his daughter?
The Democrats send their very best to the political arena, don’t they?
