Outed candidate withdraws from Idaho House race

A Democratic state House hopeful who was accidentally outed as a bisexual by a party colleague earlier this year has withdrawn from his race.

Nate Murphy of Pocatello had sought election in District 29.

In March, he was accidentally outed after Idaho's only openly gay lawmaker, Sen. Nicole LeFavour of Boise, told The New York Times that Murphy would be taking up her legacy.

Murphy's former campaign manager, Ryan Hand, said personal issues prompted the 23-year-old candidate's departure from the race, not the outing.

Murphy also had faced questions about a marijuana conviction five years ago.

Hand declined to provide specifics behind the decision to exit the race, and Murphy didn't return a phone call.

Southeastern Idaho Democrats are seeking a replacement for Murphy to run against Republican Dave Bowen.

This probably saved us from several dozen new corollaries to Murphy’s Law.

I was about to say since when is doubling his odds of getting laid a dis qualifier for the Democrats. Then you posted his photo and realized he probably never stood a chance in the first place. He’s still got the 2008 Obama stare. He needs 10 years or so of community organizing under his belt.

A 23-year-old Congressman?

I guess he wouldn’t have needed the last few years of his parents’ health coverage.

He was running for a state assembly position. I'm isolated from Pokey politics as I'm working down in San Diego. District 29 is my assembly district. Another embarrassment for the Democrats.

As he (it?) should! The last thing America needs right now is to turn Washington into a circus freak show. Sheesh! The Key Stone Cop thing is bad enough!

Phew—I see you’re right.

Somehow reading the third word in the story must have been too arduous a task for me...

Murphy's former campaign manager, Ryan Hand,

I wonder if Murphy ever responded to an inquiry by saying, "Talk to the Hand."

This district is in S. Idaho, which is very conservative.

How does bisexuality play into gay marriage? You’d either have to be a polygamist or be unfaithful to your “spouse” (as if faithfulness had any role in these relationships).

This article might be intended to highlight the "intolerance" of heavily Mormon South Idaho.

Well, we did have Larry Craig. That'd be the guy who taught the entire nation what a men's-room tapdance meant. I've been very careful to keep my feet still on the throne ever since.

LOL. I've never thought about that. Homosexual polygamy does put the homos in a bind. In order for them to get their "right" to have a piece of paper that claims their kinky sex fetishes are "normal", they'd need to legalize polygamy, too.

UGH! Where does the madness end?
