Passengers say their problems is not with rules at the airport. They understand why drinks are not allowed through security, but when they buy one while they wait for their flight, they say the TSA shouldn't ask to test it.
Passengers say traveling is a big enough stress, but now some are worried the drinks they are getting are not safe.

” I travel frequently and have never seen a TSA agent past the security screening point.”
I was sitting waiting at my gate about 5 months ago while another flight was boarding, and the airline employee got on the mike and told everyone to take out their ID because they were having a random check by TSA.
After that plane left & mine was going to start boarding, we were told the same thing.
Only time I’ve ever encountered that.
All I did was copy the line from the previous post. Far be it from me to attempt to correct the grunts and hoots of TSAThingies, let alone justify them.
TSA does show up at the gates on occasion. Had it happen a couple times in Charlotte and Dallas. They ask you for your I’d and boarding pass at top of jet bridge. I saw a couple folks pulled out of the boarding line and patted/wanded. TSA Agent said they are allowed to conduct random inspections.
Interesting! I have never seen that...thanks for the updated info.
Orange County, CA...you may drink up until the time you get to TSA, then you have to throw it away.
But don’t worry, you can then pass through the line and stand in another long line to buy something for the flight.
Hoping against hope you don’t miss your flight.
I admit that that was in 2009, the LAST time I’ve flown.
LGA, CLT, DFW - still concerned with what is offered for sale after Security. I could not find PLAIN unprocessed spring water for purchase that has nothing added to it (carbonation, minerals, flavors, etc.)
Set for expansion to all sorts of mass travel, the TSA is the foundation of a secret police, and maybe worse. Thinking about not flying any more.
What was a conservative doing in El Salvador?
I saw TSA testing boarding passengers coffee, right at boarding gate 2 months ago in Orlando. You buy the coffee in the airport mall after going through security.
I meant that the security screener asked me to take a drink of my own soda, while he watched, so that he could determine that it was actually soda.
I guess that his theory was that if it were some sort of flammable or explosive liquid, I would be hesitant to take a drink of it.
Uh, IIRC, tugging forlock and humbly begging your pardon, it was that idiot Bush that created TSA and DHS.
Bush did what was needed to deal with a crisis - a crisis with thousands of dead Americans- and citizens wanting protection.
Bush did NOT set out to create the horror we have today with Janet and goons going after American citizens who happen to be conservatives. Homeland Insecurity also wants TSA NOT to single out Muslims - might hurt their feelings. What the hell protection are they? Keeping us safe from grandmothers and small children?
What Bush created was a metaphorical day care center. What Obama has turned it into is metaphorical a child molestation organization. There's a difference. You know it too.
A few weeks ago I flew out of SFO International Terminal. The guy in front of me in the scanner was having problems with stuff in his pockets. They told him to take all paper out of his pockets and hold it over his head. They had him back out of the scanner for more testing. I went in holding my wallet and ticket over my head, they motioned to me to leave the scanner. As I did the TSA guy pointed at a green light and said "You're real clean!".
Only when I sat down to put on my belt and shoes did I realize I had my wedding ring in my pocket (I take it off to work on stuff). So now they're worried about paper in pockets but metal doesn't trigger the scanner? Why were they so insistent on removing paper from our pockets? Maybe it's all BS to intimidate us. Incidentally, my daughter was holding my baby granddaughter and she didn't have to go through the scanner, and wasn't even checked. Same with my wife, who refuses to go through scanners due to her treatments for cancer, she wasn't checked - usually she would get a patdown. Inconsistent checking.
Bless those who fly, I can't stand none of it."
Most of what TSA is doing started under Bush. I don't like Obama, but Bush and the neocons started this disaster so they could have the war that bankrupted the US. Bush was a disaster for the US. An absolte disaster. Obama might be worse, but Bush got us going on the downhill economic slide.
Tell me what they’re doing now that had anything to do with catching Radical Muslims trying to hijack airplanes. That’s what Bush set up - a way to stop radical Muslims. The current system sees conservatives as terrorists - and graandmothers - they don’t even like to check Muslims because they’re a liberal ‘protected teachers’ pet’ group...
Really, I’d like to know.

TSA and DHS is all about feeling good about ourselves and always has been. Neither have much of anything to do with counterterrorism which is the province of the DoD, CIA, FBI, and NSA, which have not done too bad a job of it. DHS/TSA is and always was an irrelevant distraction, a way to funnel lots of money into defense contractors and friends of the President (both parties). It is about distributing pork (both parties) and always had been.
Believe me, I am not defending Obama / Napolitano. But team Bush was really not a whole lot more competent. Cheney was hardly an Eisenhower, Marshall, MacArthur, Nimitz in terms of running a military strategy to accomplish a job. It was a total fiasco, actually.
You're right - the folks tasked with the real job of protecting us (DoD, CIA, FBI, and NSA) have done a great job...We've been safe under their care. And I suspect your right about TSA too - much of it was political - even some of the 'political' under the GOP... Thanks for sharing.

“I saw TSA testing boarding passengers coffee, right at boarding gate 2 months ago in Orlando.”
How were they testing it?
I think it may have been Orlando where my experience happened also.
