With the Supreme Court giving President Obamas new health care law a green light, federal and state officials are turning to implementation of the law a lengthy and massive undertaking still in its early stages, but already costing money and expanding the government.
The Health and Human Services Department was given a billion dollars implementation money, Republican Rep. Denny Rehberg of Montana said. That money is gone already on additional bureaucrats and IT programs, computerization for the implementation.
Oh boy, Stan Dorn of the Urban Institute said. HHS has a huge amount of work to do and the states do, too. There will be new health insurance marketplaces in every state in the country, places you can go online, compare health plans.
The IRS, Health and Human Services and many other agencies will now write thousands of pages of regulations an effort well under way:
Theres already 13,000 pages of regulations, and theyre not even done yet, Rehberg said.
Its a delegation of extensive authority from Congress to the Department of Health and Human Services and a lot of boards and commissions and bureaus throughout the bureaucracy, Matt Spalding of the Heritage Foundation said. We counted about 180 or so.
There has been much focus on the mandate that all Americans obtain health insurance, but analysts say thats just a small part of the law covering only a few pages out of the laws 2700.
The fact of the matter is the mandate is about two percent of the whole piece of the legislation, Spalding said. Its a minor part.
Much bigger than the mandate itself are the insurance exchanges that will administer $681 billion in subsidies over 10 years, which will require a lot of new federal workers at the IRS and health department.
They are asking for several hundred new employees, Dorn said. You have rules you need to write and you need lawyers, so there are lots of things you need to do when you are standing up a new enterprise.
For some, though, the bottom line is clear and troubling: The federal government is about to assume massive new powers.
Why isn’t the House finding out who’s paying for these lawyers that are drafting and pull the funding for them?
The register Code of Federal Regulations hit a record 163,000 pages in 2009 and the number of pending regulations costing more than $100 million has more than doubled according to Heritage.
To no ones surprise environmental regulations seem to be the main cost drivers in determining the severity of the disproportionate impact on small firms, says the SBA, with tax compliance coming in number two. Compliance with environmental regulations costs 364 percent more in small firms than in large firms. The cost of tax compliance is 206 percent higher in small firms than the cost in large firms.
Indeed, there will be politically based punishment,
but their driving motivation is to criminalize Christian beliefs through an all-powerful State, ie, they’re building the kingdom of the anti-Christ.
The House could make life very difficult by not funding select portions of agencies and specific functions, but the GOP, lead by the Weeper of the House, lacks a necessary ingredient - a backbone (or Boehner and many others are actually quite comfortable being collaborators).
And they said Obama didn’t create new jobs.
He’s also doing massive hiring for the IRS.
Told you they were going to add to it.
HHS will write this stuff? DOUBTFUL. The same organizations that wrote 0bamacare will write these new regs; GEORGE SOROS’ SOCIALIST THINK-TANKS such as ‘Center For American Progress’, etc.

Well if that happens I may have to leave the country.
But not before giving a good fight.
Charles Dickens couldn’t have written this bureaucratic national nightmare any better.
...when you “moderates” were sitting on your worthless asses being the smartest people in the room - is this what you wanted?
If I were lib I’d be laughing and flipping everyone the bird too. Supposedly they’re the minority but they’re dragging us around by the jimmy and no one is lifting a single finger to even try to stop them.
Maybe we weren’t meant to be free. :(
Why codify any of it? It’s not like there’s a check on power, anyway. The gov’t can just make it up as they go. Seriously, go green, save a bunch of trees, and use Internet polls to determine if patient A is hot enough to get that liver transplant.
SS all ready to hit the eletronic debit buttons, and hit the ground.
There are limits where this applies that most taxpayers wont reach. Unless you do really well on your home sale and have a high annual income of > $200,000. Only then will you pay 3.8% tax on the capital gain. (Your profit on the house)
Not many people have capital gains on their house anymore. The 3.8% applies to rents and other income from some investments if you have a annual income > $200,000.
It is stunning! Reagan mentions creeping socialism labeled liberalism and lays out the case that the socialist would attempt to take over using health care among other areas.
“Internet polls to determine if patient A is hot enough to get that liver transplant.”
Or green enough, Union member or not, votes the right way, tithes to Obama and the DNC....
BOHICA!
Come January, could President Romney issue an executive order abolishing these thousands of laws on Obamacare ?
The best days of healthcare in our nation are now passed.
We will never recover from the damage of this bill
