This is Tax Hike #21 in the list. Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what it means?

Codification of the “economic substance doctrine”(Tax hike of $4.5 billion). This provision allows the IRS to disallow completely-legal tax deductions and other legal tax-minimizing plans just because the IRS deems that the action lacks “substance” and is merely intended to reduce taxes owed.

Exceptions for prisoners I can understand.

But, isn't it sweet illegals get a free ride and let the gringos foot the bill - not to mention they are excempt from the Death Panels that we face?

They break the law crossing our border, get food stamps, overwhelm our hospitals and schools, don't have to worry too much about deportation, and scrweing our country with help from politicians on future demographics......etc., etc.!

Truly amazing, but why I have my tagline.

Yes, as are the US Congress, the entire Federal Executive and Judiciary Branches, all public employee unions (including teachers), employees of some “select” businesses, and a number of “select” non-public unions.

Makes you feel just grand that we get the lowest-common-denominator 0bamugabe-care while those groups get to enjoy their Rolls-Royce policies.

At our expense, too.

Aren’t we just so magnanimous!

The health care reform law defines those sects as ones that are also exempt from Social Security payroll taxes under 26 U.S. Code section 1402(g)(1). In other words, religious sects that seek exemption from the health care reform law’s individual mandate must also waive all benefits from Social Security and Medicare.

The health care reform law does not, however, specify which religious sects are, or are not, eligible for such an exemption - Muslim or otherwise.

Historically, the overwhelming majority of religious sects that have sought and received exemptions from Social Security are Mennonite and Amish groups.

It’s not quite that bad. They are exempt from the penalty in the mandate. But they are also not entitled (theoretically) to participate in the exchanges or to receive medicaid.

I am amused that the maximum salary a CEO can make is the same as a Utility Infielder brought up from Triple A for one game so he can hit 200. However, if he hits 250, he gets a bonus. The CEO, not. I looked up the minimum MLB salary ten minutes ago. It’s $480,000 right now but slated to go up to $500,000 after the All Star break.

Sure.

Businesses and wealthy individuals who normally used every legal means to minimize taxes will have to think twice.

If they haven't donated to rat pols, the IRS will make their lives difficult.

It legalizes the Clinton/Obama shakedown racket that has evolved these past 20 years.

There’s a way for Christians to opt out as well, if you join one of the Christian health sharing ministries. That’s in the bill.

That would probably be THE best way to get this pig repealed - have all Christians join these ministries and not contribute to the system.

This would be like a shadow of what will happen to the economy when the Rapture occurs.

Illegal aliens are only exempt from paying, they get the benefits. That isn’t the worst part of this TAX bill. Wait till peolpe who sell their homes or real estate find out they owe Obama 3.9% of the purchase price. That should do wonders for the housing market and the economy. People who are underwater will be an additional 3.9% when the TAX takes effect.

You think they care about insurance when they get free medical treatment?

I am beginning to think after age 70 or so that being imprisoned might not be all that bad. Especially if you can do some sort of white-collar crime that lands you on a minimum security “campus”. Free medical, dental, clothing, cable TV...what’s not to like? Oh, freedom? That is so passe’.

False.

"...…once more rumors are circulating on the Internet and by e-mail that the health care reform law enacted two years ago includes a 3.8 percent transfer tax on real estate starting in 2013. That rumor is not true; NAR has material available to you to explain how that 3.8 percent tax works. It’s a tax on a very narrow band of investment income for high-wealth households (those who earn $250,000 in a joint return or $200,000 as an individual) that could come into play on the sale of a house if the sales gain is more than $500,000 for a married couple or $250,000 for an individual."

From their FAQ:
Starting in 2014 the new law requires individuals to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty. However, the law also contains a provision that members of health care sharing ministries are not subject to the insurance requirement. Therefore, the new law does not hinder current or new members of SMI from participating in our ministry.

The people I know without health insurance can’t afford it. Now they will have to pay a fine that most likely will be equal to the coverage premium that they could not afford in the first place. Does not make much sense.

Why do they call this Affordable? I can see if premiums were around $20-30 a month.

I thought is was true, but it is not (for most):

Yes, the health law will impose a 3.8 percent tax on investment profits and other non-wage income starting in 2013. But that tax applies only to couples with adjusted gross income of $250,000 (or individuals with AGI of $200,000). About 95 percent of households make less than that, and will be exempt from the law no matter what. In addition, couples who sell a personal residence can exclude the first $500,000 in profit from tax ($250,000 for singles). That would be profit from a home sale, not proceeds. So a couple that bought a house for $100,000 and sold it for $599,000 would owe no tax, even under the health law.

We all live in one giant prison grid already, with the dome (skies) controlled just like in “The Truman Show.”

We’re already used to being strip-searched, watched by cameras everywhere we go, needing to show “papers, please” (especially within 100 miles of any border, such as where I live), subjected to drug tests and breath tests, etc. Not too far off to simply pick a slightly smaller prison.

Obama Admin. Actuary Finds Unsustainable Status Quo Cheaper than Obamacare
http://spectator.org/blog/2009/11/16/obama-administration-actuaries
One of President Obama’s primary justifications for pushing health care legislation has been that the status quo is “unsustainable” because of the skyrocketing cost of medical care in the United States. The way to rein in costs, he argues, is to do adopt the policies that he and his fellow Democrats are proposing. But a new report by the government actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a branch of the Obama administration’s Department of Health and Human Services, has found that the exact opposite is true. CMS took a close look at the health care bill that was passed by House Democrats and endorsed by the White House, and it found that not only would the bill not reduce health care costs — it would increase them. Time and again, we have been reminded that the United States spends a higher percentage of its GDP on health care than any other nation — about 16 percent. As Obama but it in his June speech to the American Medical Association, “If we fail to act, one out of every five dollars we earn will be spent on health care within a decade.” Yet if we adopt the legislation supported by Obama — which finances expanded coverage through tax increases and Medicare cuts — health care spending will actually rise to 21.1 percent of GDP, according to CMS, compared to 20.8 percent if we simply do nothing.

The two reasons they gave for the “overhaul” to healthcare: “to cut costs” - NOPE ,costs will go up actually. “to insure everyone” ...No, 10’s of millions will still be uninsured. In other words, the plan is a total failure. This is about power and control.

“So they just show up at ER when they need treatment, can’t be refused, and who pays for it?”

Good question. I suspect, that it will just go into higher premiums for citizens or lower Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements for doctors—just like it does now.

Almost everything radicals give a name or title is the opposite of what it sounds.
The saddest part of all this is what g’mnt does to the actual working poor.
By actual I mean the people who try to get by without the help of the g’mnt.
Which, sad to say, are fewer and fewer people who do not give in and take the g’mnt cheese.

I grew up “poor”.
Although my friends family who got the full government package. Lived in a clean modern “project housing” that was toasty warm in the winter and cool in the summer. They had a big color tv with cable (HBO), always had a running car, and plenty of food. Oh, and healthcare.
As far as I could tell they what was wrong with the old man was he had a limp and was a little over weight. He never had any difficulty setting up at the Flea Market.
Likewise, his wife was a little plump.

Sorry, but I didn't mean it as a question. You and I know that we will pay for the illegal aliens' healthcare. Nothing about them will change.

Democrat programs always reward undesirable behaviors and punish desirable behaviors.

If there is one that rewards legal, working citizens who play by the rules and laws of the USA, please inform me.

I can't think of one.

I had no choice but to apply for Medicaid for my Mother’s nursing home care. I didn’t have $13,000 to shell out per month.

They asked for every document under the sun. I can understand this. But it really made me mad when part of the application blatantly said “must provide a birth certificate and other documents for proof of residency unless pregnant or an illegal alien”.

I guess it would have been easier to say my mother was illegal!

On a side note, in your post you mentioned “g’ment cheese”. Well that cheese did serve a purpose! An old man down the road from us was given a huge box of the cheese and that nasty peanut butter they were handing out. He didn't even want it, but they said he was poor and old and delivered it to his house. He didn't want it to go to waste and gave it to my mother as we had a large family and he thought it would help us out.

I learned at a very young age if the Government gives away anything “free” it's going to be just like this cheese and peanut butter— bitter tasting, hard to swallow, and definitely not worth it.
