Santorum to social conservatives: Romney's message is 'right on'
CNN ^ | June 16, 2012 | Gregory Wallace and Martina Stewart

Former GOP presidential candidate Rick Santorum gave a signal to social conservatives on Saturday: Mitt Romney's "message is sound. It's solid."

On Saturday, Santorum's praise was warm.

"The concern I had - I did, I was very frank about it - was that Governor Romney would track to the middle as so many Republican candidates have done, but I'm not seeing that," Santorum said. "I'm seeing him stand by those convictions that he articulated in the primaries and I'm hopeful."

We are grassroots conservative activists. And we do not push big government progressive abortionists.

Some people on this site are pushing Obama and he's a big government progressive abortionist.

You know, Jim, I’m pretty sure I’ve said this to you before, but I will repeat myself just to be certain that we understand one another.

I do not believe that Mitt Romney is genuinely a big government progressive abortionist.

Rather, I believe that he is a heretical, shape-shifting space cultist whose ultimate goals can never be understood by you or me, and that will occur (by his reckoning) on a planet that I do not believe exists.

Thus I believe that he is a deeply deluded individual who will be a constant threat to our Republic as President, but I do not think that advancing leftist policies is necessary to his agenda, whatever it is. I believe he merely did that to get along by going along in Massachusetts.

That said, I strongly prefer that he wins in November.

"We have hundreds of Republicans who are capable of dealing with this job. Romney is not among their number."

Well, what happened? Why is there not one of those "capable" Republicans in the driver's seat to the nomination?

Either backup this scurrilous accusation or quit using it.

Every time you post this false accusation I am going to call you on it.

As far as Free Republic is concerned, here is your answer.
We are Preaching to the Choir in a Church full of empty Pews.

People posting here blame their fellow FReepers for the ascension of Romney while nobody here supported Romney in the Primaries in the first place.

Now that Romney is the presumptive Republican Nominee, those same people are accusing those who are facing that reality and embracing the Republican over Obama of being Romneybots, Romneylovers, Romneyites or Traitors to the Conservative cause.

I am nearing the point of becoming a Lurker rather that an active Poster because the rhetoric is akin to an FR Civil War. I admit I am as guilty as the next guy in passionately trying to explain and defend my “face reality” position, but it is getting tiring.

I find myself wasting hours a day rehashing the same points over and over again as are my adversaries, and we are accomplishing nothing except discord. I don't think this Forum can survive four more months of this, just as I think the Country cannot survive four more years of Obama.

Who would you suggest to take Romney’s place?

But a vote FOR Romney is a vote FOR Obama. You get the same stuff out of both these losers.

Who cares how you vote?

Evidently, you do. Why bother to reply if you didn't?

A lot of people on this thread read it and didn't take notice. You did.

You are terribly naive. When they signed up to run they agreed to back the eventual nominee in the Fall.

In the meantime you don't really know what's going on. I"m sure Bachman's chillun' are besides themselves with grief over this dilemma.

In other words, like I said, it's going to be Mitt being cast as a conservative (even when he's not) that protects him.

Pappy Bush went cockeyed on taxes and sold out to the Democrats. Fiscal Conservatives stayed home.

McCain let his former Romney staffers attack Sarah Palin and her children. He got only 59 million votes ~ with 17 million Evangelicals staying home.

Romney is at least as offensive as McCain, and his track record in Massachusetts tells us he has little grasp of how you whack government spending.

That's two times we've had a Conservative revolt. Quite arguably Barry Goldwater precipited the same thing ~ the 30% of the black vote that Nixon had gotten went to LBJ. Plus, the social conservatives recognized that Goldwater had decided he didn't need them in his party. They stayed home and he lost in a route.

Even earlier Windell Willkie, a Romney-esque sort of candidate lost in a campaign when several Republicans could have won.

Running a Faux Democrat when it's time to have a Republican Conservative on the job is just so IGNANT.

17 million Evangelicals didn't show up in 2008 ~ and they would have voted for a real Conservative Republican.

They didn't vote for McCain, so why would they suddenly decide to vote for the far more Leftwing Romney?

That does not make sense.

I know that the day after the big loss the MIttbots are going to go public and blame the Social Conservatives for the loss, but they threw those votes away in 2008 and 2012.

This is an election the GOP-e can lose by being faithless and dishonest with the far more Conservative Republican voting base.

It's not like I'm arguing from a strictly ideological position ~ I"m looking at the numbers and those numbers tell me Romney is not only going to lose, he can't win no matter what he says or does.s

What is worse, even the GOP-e analysts know this.

On the other hand Obama and the Democrats are fine patriots, is that your point?

Wasting your breath on this handful of wingnuts. They will see Romney go down in flames no matter what it means for the Nation. They try to call it "principle" but I call it suicidal tunnel vision without the ability to make any sort of discernment.
