“Are the sovereign States at the mercy of the Federal Executive’s refusal to enforce the Nation’s immigration laws?”

The answer is still no. Even if you accept it as a practical reality that the Federal government is “playing games” to avoid enforcement of the law, and are “playing politics” to use the issue in the campaign.... that still leaves the States free to exercise the powers that are NOT Federal.

So, if the political angle is that Obama first ramped up an aggressive effort in deportations... only in order to posture backing off from them “in some cases” as a benefit delivered in violation of his own interpretation of the law... and in violation of equal protection... that still leaves the practical in the games played re border enforcement...

So, if Arizona isn’t allowed to enforce the nations borders, or its own political boundaries... what IS Arizona still allowed to do ?

I’ll ignore the long discussion and get straight to the point.

Arizona needs to establish a State Park that provides a buffer between a strip along the border and the rest of the state. Then, they can declare the Borderland Park is a wilderness area... and require state permits in order to enter or traverse the park. Declare violations of the permitting rules a felony... and then, every illegal who crosses into the park without a permit is a felon... who needs to be prosecuted and deported.

If the Federal government wants to play games to avoid meeting their responsibilities to uphold the law... it is not true that the states are unable to do anything about it...

I do not like being correct about this but the truth is the truth and the truth is all that matters.

I wouldn't expect that to happen until anarchy is upon us... if then... if it comes to that. Protesting no longer works... 3 million descended upon DC... we gave the republicans another shot in 2010... they promised that they had heard us... admitted to screwing up and promised to do better... then doubled down on their progressive march to a European socialist order.

No, we will go Galt and destroy the republican party and build a new party... and if that fails... we will divide as a nation... there will ALWAYS be the Republic of Texas.

I personally have little faith that even 20 million angry Conservatives marching in DC would garner much more than horrible press for Conservatives (remember how they painted us TEA Party people) and more lies in the form of broken promises from the evil gop/e. The sooner we all realize that the republicans hate us every bit as much as the dims do... then Americans will see the truth of our situation. It isn't hopeless... but it isn't good either.
