Walter Russell Mead: Americans Lose Faith in Public Schools
The American Interest. ^ | June 20, 2012 | Walter Russell Mead

Posted on 06/24/2012 12:44:13 AM PDT by neverdem

The latest Gallup polls measuring Americans’ confidence in the nation’s institutions have been released, and the news is not good. Newspapers, banks, and small businesses all took a hit, while gains for the Congress, the Presidency, and the criminal justice system were relatively minor. One of the largest drops was for public schools. According to the poll, confidence in public schools has dropped five percentage points in the past year to 29 percent, a historic low since the question was first asked in the early 1970s.

That number has been in a long, slow slide for the past forty years:

This decline is alarming but understandable. With each passing year it becomes increasingly clear that the big-box school model that carried America through much of the 20th century is no longer working. School expenditures have increased even as performance has declined or stagnated, and international comparisons consistently show America falling short relative to other developed nations. Meanwhile, across the country, parents who can afford it are pulling their children out of highly bureaucratized public schools and putting them into private ones where they can at least have some influence in the shape of their children’s education. Small wonder that public schools are losing the support of the public they were created to serve.

The solution, as we have remarked before, is a decentralized system that puts more power into the hands of parents and teachers. This would work wonders to restore people’s confidence in our schools as a whole.

Walter Russell Mead uses Blue Social Model as a tag or keyword. He's one of the few registerd rats, last I heard, who's smart and uses common sense, IMHO. I use redsocialmodel as a keyword.

Just read this:

http://www.amazon.com/John-Dewey-Decline-American-Education/dp/193223652X

That said-—Dewey threw out Objective Truth (God) and replaced it with the Fabian Socialist ideology— “feel good, do it” and moral relativism. Both antithetical to what made America great-—Protestant Work Ethic—perseverance and Traditional (Classical) education which included Rhetoric and God-Given Rights (individualism).

All the “social” studies replaced hard subjects and reduced the knowledge and facts and demonized Capitalism and forces collective learning to destroy individualism. They teach fake self-esteem—prizes to everyone—no competition. They destroy risk-taking and use humiliation to get children all to think one way—it is good to have two mommies. (brainwashing to destroy Christian Ethics-—the most successful ethics in any culture).

Socialists need to destroy God-—so they have to kick out Natural Laws which is Common Sense-—because they want to destroy the Constitution—God-Given Rights—so they can become gods and remake man in their own Satanic sodomite image. They need to destroy Virtue in children with Sex Ed by Lukacs. Destroy Virtue and you destroy the ability to have freedom.

We need to return Classical education and get rid of all the Socialist propaganda that destroys logic and reason and knowledge.

The timeline runs concurrently with the “coming of age” of the teachers unions across America.

The “public school”, including the “charter school”, is BY FAR, the largest, most expensive, most subversive, and most destructive entitlement program in the country.

The “public school” is better understood as the “government school collective”.

It is silly to imagine that you can fix the public schools, because the very concept itself is collectivist.

Any child that comes out of the government school collective with their moral compass and common sense intact does so in spite of the government school indoctrination, not because of it.

If you want to win the culture war, have lots of children (see my tagline) and homeschool them or form your own school cooperative with your church or synagogue and like-minded friends and relatives.

Nobody loves your children more than you do.

Nobody can teach your children better than you can.

Nobody knows your children better than you do.

Your children would love nothing better than to be taught by you, if you start doing so before they are corrupted by the government school collective.

It is hypocritical for you to submit your children to an authority with whom you fundamentally disagree. And your children will know it.

If you have children, make whatever sacrifices you must to get them out of the public schools.

DO NOT FEED THE BEAST!

Especially not with your own children.

And DO NOT TAKE GOVERNMENT “EDUCATION” MONEY!

He that pays the piper calls the tune, and that’s especially true for any government entitlement program.

It never did work, unless you are trying to achieve some really sick results.

Maybe if schools had stuck to teaching the basics, like reading and math, like parents BEGGED them to -- confidence wouldn't be so bad.

But the "experts" knew best and, instead of teaching the basics, used the classroom for PC and homosexual brainwashing.

Talk about a toxic environment!!!!

I remember when both Dr. Laura and Tony Snow both were shocked by the degree of evil and hate by the left. In Laura’s case, she discovered it when she objected to what gays were doing to our kids - and they basically wrecked her career. In Tony’s case, he discovered it when he put his kids in school.

I bring this up because I heard both people say on the radio that they had heard Rush Limbaugh characterize the left and their intentions, but neither of them believed it. They just thought it was part of his ‘act’ to hold an audience. I went to college at ESU, so I got to see the left in action, nothing they do surprises me, and nothing Rush has said about them is inaccurate, based on my own observations - if anything he’s easy on them and has definitely toned it down over the decades, even though the other side has just gotten worse.

I bring this up because the biggest threat to this country is not the left - there really aren’t that many of them - at least there aren’t that many of them that agree with their real agenda. No, the REAL THREAT to this country are normal, informed, people that REFUSE to see the evil in these people, and thus allow them to gather power and continue to bring down the country.

I suspect at least half of the people on this site with school-aged kids send them to the public schools. Why, because their school is not like those evil schools that you hear about - the other 95% of the schools. No, their school is just wonderful, with a teacher that always smiles and administrators that only want what’s best for “the children”.

Invariably, these parents find out that even their public school has problems, like using calculators in first grade or memorizing words by sight until third grade, and only then sounding them out. But the parents think it’s just a mistake by well-meaning people. Those same parents might want to get to know the ‘Education’ majors at ESU and other schools (particularly check out their party and sex lives). See who these people are that are going to be in charge of directing their kids’ lives for over a decade. If the parents see that, then maybe, just maybe, they’ll understand that the system is rotten to the core, and those same ‘Education’ majors are the ones running their precious school and teaching their own children.

There is so much wrong with public schools we would be much better off to scratch the whole mess and cut our losses. Liberals have totally deconstructed and culturally cleansed them.

Give people vouchers to teach their own kids or put them into a private school. We could start a huge, new private sector - private education - where parents pick the kind of schools and teachers that they want for their own children in accordance with their own values. Money talks and socialist, zero tolerance, diversity racist, amoral, pervert bs walks.

We should stop educating the foreign invaders’ children on the public dime, too.

The latest Gallup polls measuring Americans’ confidence in the nation’s institutions have been released, and the news is not good.

It's GOOD news that Americans are waking up to the reality of their world. Teachers aren't teaching. Newspapers aren't giving both sides. MSNBS lies and doctors tapes...

What's the bad news? That they're not fooling us as well as they use to? Gimme a break.
