Now union members are deserting Obama
Washington Examiner ^ | 6-12-12 | Paul Bedard

Two new and disturbing polls just out suggest that the road to reelection is getting tougher for President Obama.

In the most significant, Gallup found that union member support for the president is weaker than it was on Election Day. While Obama took 67 of the union vote, according to 2008 election night polling by Peter Hart for the AFL-CIO, Gallup discovered that just 58 percent of union members back the president now. Some 35 percent support Mitt Romney, 5 percent more than Sen. John McCain won in 2008.

Gallup said the union vote is a significant block for Obama, though, “their impact on the presidential race will be limited by their size -- just about 12% of employed voters are union members.”

Rasmussen Reports, found that a majority of likely American voters -- 60 percent -- believe that it is at least somewhat likely that the next president will be a Republican, including 34% who see this scenario as very likely. Among Democrats, 35 percent of likely voters also said Obama would be followed by a Republican.

Rasmussen said that when Obama first took office, just 44 percent thought a Republican would replace him

Count my husband, laid off nearly 4 years from a tile union, gone are weekly paychecks, medical coverage, pension contributions, his annuities (had to take them to survive), credit rating (had to file bankruptcy to survive)....yup, quite a ride since O-BLAME-O, longest layoff since he joined the union in 1989, we have lost tens of thousands of dollars, even a few hundred thousand over all these years.

The union journal that is delivered every so often STILL supports O-BLAME-O and the loon democrats, UNREAL!!

They all oppose him for different reasons.

Coal miners and energy workers because he is literally killing off their jobs with the EPA.

Public Employees because his failure to go to Wisconsin and put everything into defeating Scott Walker means life will now become a steady diet of concessions and givebacks.

SEIU because he did not implement single payer healthcare and massive direct redistribution of the wealth.

Many others because he did not come to their financial rescue by implementing Card Check.

About the only ones he can count on are UAW, since he absolutely bailed their arses out with taxpayer money.

In 1980 I had a job at a defense contractor in northeast New Jersey.

This company was unionized, at least in its non-engineering areas. Pretty much every day, my path to my car at the end of the day took me through the shipping department; there was a bulletin board there with all kinds of union material posted. If it was late (meaning after 4:00 or so) the place would be deserted, and once in a while I'd stop for a minute or two and read the papers posted there. Just curious, I guess. It was the Teamsters union, and I wondered "what does the Teamsters union tell its members on a public bulletin board?"

Anyway, one day I noticed a letter there. It was on Teamsters letterhead. The contents of the letter really surprised me. The letter advised members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters that they should think about voting for Ronald Reagan. My recollection is that this was in the summer of 1980, and that the letter was not exactly an official endorsement of Mr. Reagan. Instead, it spoke positively of Mr. Reagan's qualifications, explained why he would be good for the country and for the Teamsters, and - I think - at the end stated that the person who was writing the letter was planning to vote for Ronald Reagan in the November elections.

I suppose the reason it was not an actual endorsement might have been because the letter didn't come from the national headquarters of the union, but came from some more local official. I don't know about that for sure, obviously.

I stood there and read the letter over at least twice, thinking "wow, this is really amazing, could be big."

I admit I've told this story before here at FR.

I question the impact of this drop off of union support would have on the election. Union membership is concentrated in populus blue states and the defections would not be sufficient to overcome the overwhelming Democrat majorities.

1980, 489 to 49.

That’s what happens when you lose the unions.

2012 may rival 1980.

I think the vast majority of pro-life Christians will be turning out to vote for Romney.

Getting Obama out of office is imperative for the survival of the United States. At least Romney will slow the decline.

Probably in more ways than one. I expect him to use military action to increase his popularity.

I think between now and Inauguration Day, 2013, we’re going to see “scorched earth” like we’ve never seen before.

However, there are significant and growing signs that this president is rapidly becoming too weak to be effective with a scorched earth program. As weak as he is becoming, scorched earth is a highly dangerous double-edged sword. It could make him just that much more of an electoral pariah.

Thankfully, there's only so much 0bumnuts can do without a Senate super-majority and a 'RAT House backing him up.

If there was ever a time for scorched earth, it would have been from Election Day 2010 to swearing-in day 2011. Fortunately, the Kenyan Marxist still had the promise of Election Day 2012 to keep a lid on his evil.

I believe that you are incorrect. There is so much out there, in Romney’s own words, to hang him with Christians that it was suicide for the GOP to nominate him. “I am more pro-Choice than Kennedy” will come to equal “Read my lips!”

I once had some neighbors that had a shrine to Franklin Roosveldt in their living room ... thank's primarily for getting the US out of the depression. (Winning WW-II helped too.)

Obama, however, is not nearly as believable, capable, or eligible - as Frankin Roosveldt, and I'd say that most Dems and union members will not support Obama in November.

FDRs policies harmed the US economy and prolonged the depression.

The conventional wisdom to the contrary is just more evil commie lies.

Sorta makes you wish the GOP had nominated a decent candidate, doesn’t it?

You keep talking about "the GOP" nominating Romney but in fact we all know it was the voters who did that.

It makes you seem pretty crazy, really.

YEP! Look what happened after the Kenyan Presidential Election that he and his sick Cousin Lost! Riots in the streets and thousands of Christian Churches burned to the Ground and hundreds if not thousands of Christians Burned Alive huddled in those Churches! Not one word of Condemnation uttered by Barry Soetoro and he rewarde his “Cousin, Odinga!” by having Odinga sit in Barry’s Custom Built Enclosed and Heated Suite at the “Immaculation Ceremony!” Oh! Do we forget that it was Highly ILLEGAL for a sitting U.S. Senator (BARRY SOETORO) to participate in any foreign Election, but absolutely even more, a foreign Presidential Election supporting the MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD ENDORSED CANDIDATE, BARRY’S ALLEGED COUSIN, ODINGA!
PUTIN has to be rolling on the floor screaming in gut wrenching laughter at the stupidity of the American People!
Add the Chines and Our Other Enemies as well to PUTIN’s Celebration Party!
