Leadership: An incoherent press conference and contradictory explanation show that if the president thinks the answer to job-killing federal policies is boosting state and local governments with borrowed money, we're really in trouble.
'Tone deaf" fails to describe President Obama's statement at Friday's press conference that "the private sector is doing fine," when median income is down 10% in three years, family net worth has plunged 39%, 23 million Americans are out of work and the official unemployment rate tops 8% for the 40th month in a row, the longest sustained period at that level since the Great Depression.
Mitt Romney's charge that the president is "out of touch" might be more accurate, but we would prefer "clueless."
Then came the walk-back at a later press event: "It is absolutely clear that the economy is not doing fine. That's why I had a press conference," Obama explained to those who were wondering, and as if the two statements did not contradict one another. Cognitive dissonance has been redefined.
Lost in the commotion caused by the dueling teleprompters was the president's suggestion that, aside from job-killing ATMs, the economy was in the tank because state and local governments weren't big enough and spending enough.

Obama will soon be in free fall.
He is like a character in a carton who has run off a cliff but just doesn’t realize it yet.
Soon he will look down and see that there is nothing there and he will begin to plummet.
Recession - When your neighbor loses his job
Depression - When you lose your job
Recovery - When Obama loses his job
Yeah, well.
George Bush didn’t know what a supermarket scanner was. Kick him out of office.
Incompetence ping
Well, let me simplify this for you three economic mental ivy league midgets. When you grow the private sector, revenues roll in that MAY allow you to grow the public sector. When you grow the public sector a la Obama Stimulus you spend money on jackass things like San Fran Nan swamp mice, Solyndra, the sex lives of bees, etc. It is obvious that the Three Buffoons mucked things up really badly, i.e. little if no growth, high unemployment, high debt, devaluation of the dollar.
Now, the Obama Stimulus Plan of about $1 billion has been added to the baseline budget year after year (to add insult to injury the Ried Dummycrat run Senate has NOT passed a budget in over three years). Only 5+% of that Obama Stimulus Plan was set aside for infrastructure. Now the three buffoons want more imaginary money for infrastructure! Hello! I have two unlady like words for you: YUCK FOU!
I remember how the Carter administration was floundering as the Summer of 1980 approached, and all the way to the election. The economy was in a mess. It seems that it’s worse now then back then.
“the next job lost should be obama’s in November.”
I like that for a theme for a slogan.
Obama: America’s most important job loss.
Did you mean trillion not billion on the stimulus plan?
Oh and you’ve got two typos in your last sentence. ;-)
Recession is your neighbor out of a job.
Depression is you out of a Job.
Recovery is Obama out of a Job.
Hah, beat me to it.
I just hope enough people think that way in November.
Me too. We must keep the fires lit and the pressure
on the press. We are already seeing fractures appear
in the smooth party fascade.
We must do all we can to expose this crook and his
accomplices.
It was a bogus story. Bush was at a Florida trade show intrigued by the scanner. What impressed him is that the equipment could actually read and reconstruct TORN labels.
We had serious problems back then. Now globally - nation states are insolvent 10 to 1,000 times over - or more.
I knew it was a bogus story, but I didn’t know the detail about the torn labels.
My point (which I didn’t make very well) was that Bush’s supposed lack of awareness of “how ordinary people live” was a factor in getting him kicked out of office.
Obama says “the private sector is doing great” and people chalk it up to I don’t know what. Near as I can tell, we chalk it up to “he’s doing the best he can given his racial background.”
