Jeb Bush Says Mitt Romney Should Pick Marco Rubio
ABC News ^ | June 8, 2012 | Shushannah Walshe

Posted on 06/11/2012 3:55:26 AM PDT by pistolpackinpapa

Jeb Bush gave an impassioned endorsement of fellow Floridian Marco Rubio, advising Mitt Romney to pick him as his running mate and describing him as “the most articulate conservative elected official on the scene today,” and even spoke of the “great pride” he has for the U.S. senator from his home state.

“Marco Rubio is my favorite [choice], because we have a close relationship,” the former Florida governor told Charlie Rose in an interview that aired on his PBS show Thursday evening. “I admire him greatly … He speaks with great passion about American exceptionalism. I think he would lift the spirits of the campaign and provide some energy. Governor Romney is running a very good campaign right now and closed the gap and leading in some polls, but I think this would be an added bonus.”

In the wide ranging hour long interview that aired in parts Thursday morning on CBS’ “This Morning” and then in its entirety Thursday evening on PBS, Bush said Rubio has had enough preparation to be “one heartbeat away from the presidency” despite being a first term senator.

“Look he has more experience than Barack Obama had when he ran,” Bush said. “And the practical experience — he’s certainly got the intelligent acumen and fortitude to be a good president and I have a special place in my heart for him. It’s hard to describe the pride I have for his incredible success and how he has moved in to the job of being a U.S. senator with humility, not trying to be an arrogant guy, to learn the trade if you will. And people in Washington really admire him.”

“Rubio, Jindal and Romney were all born on U.S. soil.”

Which makes them all born citizens. (Although Romney has the added quality of being born to citizen parents making him an NBC and eligible to hold the office of the President, which is not true of the other two.)

Unfortunatly that is not the Constitutional eligibility requirement. At least my copy of it requires that Presidents be born in the country of citizen parents....natives....Natural born citizens....whose citzenship flows natually from the citizenship of their parents.

It goes deeper than that. The Founders realized that any future Presidents be fully American, steeped in the traditions, mores, history, laws, and ethic of America. Only birth to citizen parents could provide that. (No it is not a guarantee, but as sight better than anything else.)

Being raised within the culture assisted the parents in best insuring that a child was indeed All-American without any foreign influence. Any other circumstance of birth does not give the same insurance.

I’ve got plenty of popcorn stockpiled for the “upcoming hatefest show”. Almost makes me wish I hadn’t quit drinking 17mos ago, so I could stockpile/ice-down a few cases of Guinness and Rolling Rock! Heh.

The day good 'ole Jeb turned his back on Terri Schindler-Schiavo.

He called a press conference to announce he would halt Terri's torturous death by judicial decree, At the moment he approached the mike, he changed his gutless mind, exposing the despicable amoral spineless piece of worthless human flesh he really is.

It was then and there I turned my back to anything he says or touches. May God forgive his sinful soul, for his part in Terri's stone cold death by court approved torture.

I found this through Bing:

It’s not “rocket surgery” as a FReeper said recently. :)

It should be interesting. Since God won’t let me have more than one drink, I’ll have to join you with iced tea or coke.

I agree he is ineligible, but this is why i would want him on the ticket. To point out that Obama is also ineligible.”

Wouldn’t it be better if Rubio, upholding the Constitution, publically stated he had refused an offer of VP because of his lack of NBC eligibility?

“the “natural born citizen” clown car shows up within minutes and they all spill out.”

Amazing huh? Who would have ever guessed that Conservatives would uphold the meaning and spirit off the Constitution on a Conservative website. It just boggles the mind!/s

To you and the other guy whose name I forget:

If you are right, and you may be ... although I find it odd that a credible and damaging story has not been picked up by the libs ...

Have you guys ever thought about Obama? Remember the house he got in Chicago?

That boy never had to suffer what honest people do when trying to get buy without cheating Chicago friends. His nice and expensive house was practically paid for by cronies.

And now the American people are paying for an even nicer house for him to live in.

It’s kind of amazing that people posting on a conservative site can get so passionate about the flaws of the people on our side while apparently dismissing the incredible crookedness and evil of Obama.

But whatever rocks your boat, I guess.

Keep telling yourself that. Bush threw his presidency away. You Bush voters should’ve voted Perot.

“Barbara is Jenna’s sister. She has no say. What’s your point??”

Barbara Bush is the grandaughter(or Great Grandaughter?) of President Franklin Pierce. There has been 3 Presidents in the Bush family.

Franklin, GHW, And GW.......

Was that an attempt at humor, or did you just not know that fact?

I don’t think gose does humor, but this thread has raised some interesting possibilities.

Maybe Romney should choose Rubio.

They bring a knife, he brings a gun.

They try the ineligible thing on him ... he points out the ineligible thing on Obama (much more damning).

They try the foreclosure thing on him ... he brings out the plight of the honest citizen somehow incurring financial difficulties (identifying strongly with the electorate) and contrasts it with a crooked politician in chicago who always has cronies to help him out of a financial jam.

It might be fun.

I understand that.

But it seems like the real passion arises on this site when someone mentions Romney, Rubio, any of several Bush people or any other conservative who doesn’t meet their ‘standards.’

“Or Romney whose father was born in another country and not a naturalized American citizen when he was born...”

Sorry Nana but Mitt’s father was a US citizen he was just born in Mexico. Mitt is eligible. Rubio and Jindal are not. But not to worry, look for Mitt to pick someone non controversial like Rob Portman from OH. A must win state.
