How Romney Pushed State Health Bill
Wall Street Journal ^ | June 5, 2012 | MARK MAREMONT

Posted on 06/05/2012 6:30:09 AM PDT by bobsunshine

When Mitt Romney left office as Massachusetts governor, his aides removed all emails from a server computer in the governor's office, and purchased and carted off hard drives from 17 state-owned personal computers, according to a current state official.

But a small cache of emails survived, including some that have never publicly surfaced surrounding Mr. Romney's efforts to pass his now-controversial health-care law. The emails show the Republican governor was closely engaged in negotiating details of the bill, working with top Democratic state leaders and drafting early copies of opinion articles backing it.

Mr. Romney once trumpeted the overhaul as his signature achievement as governor, but he has since played it down amid GOP attacks on the 2010 federal health-care bill signed by President Barack Obama, which bears similarities to the Massachusetts plan. Both contain individual mandates that require residents to buy health insurance.

Mr. Romney today defends the Massachusetts plan as a state initiative, while attacking what he calls "ObamaCare" as an unjustified federal takeover of the health-care system. Many Republicans oppose the individual mandate as unconstitutional, and the U.S. Supreme Court is expected to rule this month on that issue.

Uh Oh. I hope Romney is not a wolf in sheep’s clothing. IMHO “health” is a personal matter and we must keep the federal behemoth out of it.

How convenient...this info comes out after all of Romney’s main opponents drop out of the GOP primary race.

Is there anything wrong with presenting the good(cough), the bad and the ugly of the presumptuous nominee? Before Breitbart died, he said that not only should people vet Obama but Romney as well and vetting doesn’t stop once the primary is virtually over. No one should be blind guides

Ya know, the vetting process is something that was not completely done with Obama. No one wanted to talk about his years in college, he years with Rev. Wright. We didn't want to upset anyone. People didn't fully understand Obama and the media covered for him.

Ok......and?

Just more beating of that long dead horse.

Here's a good article about RomneyCare

99.1% of all children covered with insurance in MA.

I don't like the idea of any kind of mandate though. Insurance is supposed to be a "benefit" for working for a company, not an entitlement.

Obamacare has the individual mandate which is literally satanic IMO. You can't escape it. In Romneycare the mandate is partially on businesses and not on the individual.

I know people from MA that say that Romneycare is a really good thing and they like it. And I believe the intentions Romney had were honorable.

But.... I'm not comfortable with the door Romneycare opens up for every nitwit liberal to shove entitlements on us. Saddling us with debt that are perpetual and can never be paid off, they only continue to grow. That's the blue print for economic collapse.

I think Obamacare is something that needs to be eliminated, if not completely, at least the individual mandate. We keep hearing that we need to provide for the uninsured. So why do we all have to suffer? Congress should have passed a bill only for them.

Remember, Obamacare is Insurance - not better healthcare. People (the uninformed) keep thinking (driven by the media) that this will help our health. No it will not. It provides payments (insurance) for preventive care, etc.

What Romney and the Democrats did in MA might be good for MA and some of the results you mention seem to prove that. But Obamacare is for everyone and as we all know, you can never ever make something fit for everyone.

“The Massachusetts plan might not have achieved universal coverage, but it has cost taxpayers a great deal of money. Originally, the plan was projected to cost $1.8 billion this year. Now it is expected to exceed those estimates by $150 million. Over the next 10 years, projections suggest that Romney- Care will cost about $2 billion more than was budgeted. And the cost to Massachusetts taxpayers could be even higher because new federal rules could deprive the state of $100 million per year in Medicaid money that the state planned to use to help finance the program.”

Intentions mean squat.
Yea, I can see how MA is benefiting from this massive government intrusion.

Another quote:
The subsidies may have increased the number of Massachusetts citizens with insurance, but as many as 400,000 Massachusetts residents by some estimates have failed to buy the required insurance. That includes the overwhelming majority of those with incomes too high to qualify for state subsidies. Fewer than 30,000 unsubsidized residents have signed up as a result of the mandate. And that is on top of the 60,000 of the state’s uninsured who were exempted from the mandate because buying insurance would be too much of a financial burden.

I don't really have an opinion on Romneycare. It's up to the people in MA. Self determination and all that... if they want it, good for them. If they decide to repeal it, good for them. People have a way out, they can leave MA is all else fails. People have the ultimate way to opt out. I'm good with that.

Obamacare scares the **** out of me! There's no escape.

Did you see the article on what the EPA is doing with the drones to spy on ranchers? Or the one about the EPA killing the coal industry?

Yes and if this doesn't send a chill up your spine nothing will. This is why these Republicans, Conservatives, and Mormon-haters slamming Romney really make me want to puke. It's now a two man race. The other guy is trying to turn our country into North Korea or Cuba. Take your pick.

Yeah right.

Were his intentions honorable when he also did the following?

1. Implemented an "Assault" Weapons Ban AFTER the federal AWB had been allowed to expire.
2. Implemented Socialized Medicine WITH a $50 Abortion
3. Wholeheartedly supported Abortion.
4. Nominated 27 out of 36 extreme, left-wing, Progressive Democrats to judgeships
5. Supported the Brady Bill
6. Supported Amnesty for Illegal Aliens, i.e. McCain-Kennedy
7. Supported Global Warming
8. Worked for the creation of a Carbon Cap-and-Trade system at the state level in Massachusetts
9. Implemented Gay Marriage
10. Supported Gay Adoption and forced it at the state level in Massachusetts.
11. Raised taxes and fees to the tune of $700 million.
12. Stated that he was not interested in going back to the policies of Ronald Reagan.
13. Came out against the Bush tax cuts.

Whenever somebody brings out the hate card, it is a sure sign they have lost the argument.

It is not a two man race, it is a two liberal race, one a little less liberal than the other.

There are other options on the table for the serious and committed conservative, namely, Virgil Goode of the Constitution Party and writing in Sarah Palin.

And for any serious conservatives your attitude about ignoring Romney's record makes them PUKE.

And self proclaimed conservatives that capitulate to liberalism, whether an R or D, make me want to puke.

People who bring up hate first have already lost the argument.

Did you just make those up? Where are your sources? Why do you hate mormons? Are you a BHO troll? What is your problem we are all going to die if BHO is reelected. Why can't you just roll over, suppress all your principles and values and do what I have commanded you to do? Romney is a man of honor and does not hate the USA. BHO wants us to be Cuba, don't you know that? I don't care about Romney's record, he was a governor of liberal state, so can't judge him. Romney is not the father of obamaCare, that's a democrat line, are you really a democrat? Your sources are not relevant. You have taken your sources out of context. We know you by your fruits and your's stink. You are ignorant, stupid, a troll, brain dead, mormon hater.......

Did I forget anything SCP? What's the new word or phrase of the week? Haven't seen one this week.

These emails certainly put paid to Romney’s current lying argument that he was “forced” to put through Romneycare by the Democrats.

Article, and comments. Holy smoke...tread lightly.

Thanks, anonymous.
