In 1968, the political world was shocked when President Lyndon Johnson, running for reelection just four years after a landslide victory, was held beneath 50% of the vote in the Democrat primary in New Hampshire. Sen. Eugene McCarthy scored a shocking 41.5% of the vote against the incumbent President.
The result confirmed Johnson's weakness going into the November general election. Within weeks, Sen. Robert Kennedy announced he would seek the Democrat nomination for President and Johnson announced that he would not. LBJ was bowing out of his reelection bid.
Today, the Obama reelection campaign is reeling from his disastrous performance in the Democrat primaries in Arkansas and Kentucky.

Any thoughts?
Pie-in-the-sky. Obama is a serial, clinical narcissist. This will NOT happen.
O’s leftist, anti-colonial, and Islamic Messiah complex and Mooch’s Marie Antoinette attitudes won’t let him/them quit.
He might want to graduate to UN President of the World, but can’t on such short notice. He won’t drop out—he’ll intensify the negative campaign and ramp up the vote-stealing effort.
sheriff arpaio might have sumpin’ to do with the commie usurper dropping out. Next info in two weeks.
He'll need to be thrown out.
Agreed. He also has ambitions of being a dictator. If he can’t win a legitimate election, he will nullify the results and seize power by force.
Agreed, unfortunately. Plus there are no guiding principles there......
No way, no how. In 1968, LBJ had just won the New Hampshire Primary by 7% over Eugene McCarthy, not a convincing margin. Robert Kennedy was tuning up to run, and in my opinion might have gotten the nomination.
The people around Obama won’t let that happen.
Old LBJ had a lot of Kennedy people around him and they
starting bailing on him.
Obama is no LBJ.
Agreed. Obama will NEVER, EVER give up. If he can’t work within the framework of the process to be re-elected, he will destroy the framework and all that goes with it.
He has the soul of a communist so he’ll NEVER drop out.
Agree it’s not likely but his backers, co-conspirators, enablers, and apologists might make him an offer he can’t refuse. They definitely don’t want to go down with him if there are going to be continuing eligibility bombshells.
is obama any less popular with the left than romney is with the right?
They’ve got something big planned for October.
The Romney campaign has proved surprisingly agile, and except for the reverand Wright crap, don’t seem to be intimidated by Obama’s attacks.
This election year may be the reverse of 2008, where everything goes against Obama and all the insidious machinations backfire and fizzle out; where the people say in large numbers “we don’t need any of these games anymore. Let’s get rid of this guy and be done with it. Anybody else would be better.”
Plus, LBJ was an American
No way he drops out, ain’t happening.
Obama is not as smart as LBJ (who wasn’t that smart himself).
>>Plus, LBJ was an American<<
Ok, ya got me there. LOL!
