BANGOR, Maine A US Airways jet flying from Paris to Charlotte, North Carolina, has been diverted to Maine because of what an airline spokesman calls a "security issue."
A North American Aerospace Defense Command spokesman says two F-15 fighters were scrambled to escort the plane.
A person briefed on the incident said a passenger announced she had a surgically implanted device. The source spoke on condition of anonymity because it involved sensitive law enforcement information.
US Airways spokesman Andrew Christie says the jet with 179 passengers was diverted around noon Tuesday to Bangor International Airport. He says there was a "security issue" on Flight 787.

spent a week there one day in '91- tiny airport - unproductive hunting trip
“Either way, the passengers must be very upset, to say the least.”
But Maine is so nice this time of year.
Lucky passengers - Bangor’s way nicer than Charlotte.
Local talk radio in Boston (Severin) speculating that terrorists might be plotting to surgically implant explosives into women’s breasts, disguised as a boob job, and designed to detonate at a certain attitude. Also Severin is saying that if this is the case and the attack is unsuccessful, we will not hear about it because government will not want to create panic.
See how simple that was!

Thanks thouworm for the post. Had not read all the info when was posting. Went back to review. Wonder if there are any updates? Have heard via news on radio (local) this is being played down as a non-incident and the standard retort of [not terror related] by authorities. Everything read (in the main lame media) and heard thus far (radio) has to be the truth, one is required to believe, in the new obamanation. OOPs, hearing helicopters. Call ‘em off ... janet! Scary, thank goodness they continued on and did not stop.
Probably crazy
Please tell me this is not a real picture.
lol; nothing like firsthand and/or eyewitness Freeper reports. Seriously...
BURKA?
I don't know. I pulled it off the web, but there were others of this subject. I spect it is real.
What about them transvestee arabs? If they are working surgically to implant bombs or the upper front parts, they have to be put on the list to be surgically checked at the gate. This could get expensive, not to even mention the cost of putting these transvestee arabs back together again. Will the taxpayers be asked for another trillion for security to tsa?
Maine voted down “gay marriage” twice.
It’s on the ballot again this Fall, because the damn liberals never give up.
“....The Bangor [Maine] airport is accustomed to dealing with diverted flights. Its the first large U.S. airport for incoming European flights, and its the last U.S. airport for outgoing flights, with uncluttered skies and one of the longest runways on the East Coast. Aircraft use the airport when there are mechanical problems, medical emergencies or unruly passengers.....”
Yep. It’s the old Dow AFB which became one of the larger SAC bases during the cold war. As a kid growing up in eastern Maine, I can remember watching groups of B-52s coming in off the Atlantic at tree-top level with their long black smoke trails off their engines. I guess this was to test radar detection etc.? That airport has over an 11,000’ runway.
Bangor International has had it’s share of diverted flights over the years. Bomb threats, drunk and unruly passengers, etc.
The City of Bangor gets fat fees from the airlines for these diversions. Bangor has a small amount of commercial airline flights every day, as well as general aviation. The Maine Air National Guard has a base that’s part of the Bangor International facility. It was called Dow Field during World War II. I attended an air show at the Maine Air National Guard facility in late May of 2000. It was the one and only appearance of the Navy’s Blue Angels in northern Maine since the Blue Angels’ were established in 1946.
Our troops come and go through Bangor International on a regular basis. After the first Gulf War in 1991, returning troops were met by mobs of local people.....the terminal was packed wall-to-wall with well-wishers. There are glass display cabinets in the terminal showing military uniforms and memorabilia from this era.
Since 2003, more than 6,000 flights carrying one million military men and women have landed at Bangor International.
Local people, known as “troop greeters,” meet each and every one of these planes no matter the time of the day or night. The troop greeters chat with the troops, give them pre-paid cell phone and snacks to eat, etc. There are a lot of flag wavers around here.
Do you have a name and number? I’m a professional investigator and I will get to the bottom of this.
I’ve seen C-141 Starlifters doing touch and go’s in the skies in around Bangor International for years.
One time, when I was deep in the woods, I heard the sound of jet engines above my head. I looked up, and I saw about five or six F-15s doing their thing in the sky. I felt like I was at an air show.
Loring AFB in the northern most part of Maine was a SAC base in the recent past, but it was closed during a round of cuts by the base closing commission.
