Will U.S. Sovereignty Be LOST At Sea? Obama Signs U.N. Treaty That Redistributes Drilling Revenues
Forbes ^ | may 20, 2012 | Forbes OpEd

Posted on 05/20/2012 10:18:50 AM PDT by Innovative

A proposed Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST), which has been signed by President Obama but not yet ratified by Congress, will subordinate U.S. naval and drilling operations beyond 200 miles of our coast to a newly established U.N. bureaucracy. If approved, it will grant a Kingston, Jamaica-based International Seabed Authority (ISA) the power to regulate deep-sea oil exploration, seabed mining, and fishing rights.

As part of the deal, as much as 7% of U.S. government revenue that is collected from oil and gas companies operating off our coast will be forked over to ISA for redistribution to poorer, landlocked countries. This apparently is in penance for America's audacity in perpetuating prosperity yielded by our Industrial Revolution.

Like the U.N.'s Kyoto Protocol debacle that preceded it, this most recent LOST cause embodies the progressive ideal of subordinating the sovereignty of nation states to authoritarian dictates of a world body. The U.S. would have one vote out of 160 regarding where the money would go, and be obligated to hand over offshore drilling technology to any nation that wants it... for free.

"Republican Senator Luger, another strong treaty supporter and career globalist, apparently didn’t want to highlight that fact during the course of his hard-fought Indiana reelection campaign. Now, with nothing more to lose following his primary defeat, he can be expected to help push for Senate ratification as early as next month."

Another reason we have to get rid of rinos in congress!

Thanks for posting the link.

Second term? We’ll barely survive his first.

“I see the purpose of this thread as little more than another way to convince conservatives to vote for RINO Romney”

Wrong. This is just one example of how Obama is dismantling the sovereignty of the US and the extrapolation is that he will continue to do so if he gets four more years — and since he won’t have to worry about reelection, he will be totally unconstrained.

“Will U.S. Sovereignty Be LOST At Sea? Obama Signs U.N. Treaty That Redistributes Drilling Revenues”

Like it or not, there are only TWO alternatives: Obama or Romney.

This is also another indication that they truly think they have won. A Marxist Communist is now the president of the United States, rejoice rejoice we have won. The world wide communists are out in the open with their support and investigation would show, their money also. They are no longer bothering to hide behind a facade and are proud of their agenda. Blatant attacks on our laws, our constitution, our churches and the political process.

I am of the opinion that the second amendment will have to be used to hobble their insurgency.

Sure, let’s get rid of “RINO”s in Congress and elect Democrats instead — great accomplishment.

The defeat of conservative Senate candidates, who won the Republican primaries, was what handed over the Senate to the Dems.

It seems like many conservatives are incapable of strategic thinking.

At this point we can still defeat them at the ballot box. But people need to realize what we are facing.

Yes, and the link shows it is much more than "drilling revenues."

People should be fit to be tied.

We won’t have to give it away. He’ll find a way to be “broke” within 5-6 years of getting licked out of office. And, he only gets 10 years of SS protection.

Luger supported the treaty...hello! and didn’t Bush? former Senator John Warner supported it too as did Trent Lott. Don’t go there with ME! Let’s get rid of rinos and elect true conservatives.

It's clear that the Kenyan usurper does not represent the American people; indeed, he works actively against our interests.

His intent is clearly to take this country down to the level of his homeland of Kenya.

Take out Obama but we desperately need strong Tea Party Conservatives to serve in congress and in the White House..sad to say that President George W. Bush also supported this inane treaty while Reagan did not.

Bush was also an advocate of LOST. His state dept was very busy negotiating it, on these very terms.

--- and so will Romney. The LOST issue is a poor whip to use to drive Conservatives back on the plantation.

He can sign all the treaties he wants, still needs 67 Senate votes.

Exactly! There are not enough RINOs in the Senate to grant the bastard clown this dream from his revolutionary communist father.

“....which will not be stopped even if Romney is elected..he's a huge partner in it....we are not going to get our country back any time soon.”

Please provide a link supporting the position that Romney “is a huge partner in it”. Thank you in advance. : )

The U.S. Navy maintains that we need LOST to guarantee free transit in dangerous waters.

ROTFLMAO!!!!

So we transition from principled battleship diplomacy to spineless legal diplomacy?

All WE need is a strong Navy and an American President -to hell with the UN!
