TRIPOLI, Libya The former Libyan intelligence officer Abdel Baset al-Megrahi, who was convicted of the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, has died in Libya, his brother told AFP on Sunday.
"He died an hour ago," Abdelhakim al-Megrahi said, putting the time of death at shortly after 1:00pm local time.
The UK Foreign Office could not confirm the report Sunday, however it said it was "seeking further information."
Megrahi, 60, was convicted in a Scottish court in 2001 for his role in the December 1998 bombing of Pan Am Flight 103. Most of those killed in the bombing of the Boeing 747 jet were Americans.
All 259 passengers and crew died in the tragedy, along with 11 people on the ground.
Megrahi was released on compassionate grounds in 2009 and allowed to return to Libya. Doctors said at the time that he had terminal cancer and only three months left to live.

“May he rot in hell.”
Pretty hard to rot when engulfed in flames.

If there is a place south of Hell that is where this demon belongs.
I guess I’m just mean—but I never would have released this POS on “Compassionate grounds”. I’m afraid my compassion for a killer like this is just non-existant............
Do they not even know the decade it happened?
I know the day it happened, I was coming home from OTS for Christmas It was December 22, 1988..scared the hell out of my family.
This mass murderer should have been hung by his balls years ago.
Yes, and if I remember correctly it was Ronald Reagan who sent Khadafy a little Christmas present in reponse.
Thanks Kaslin.
Fox News reported on FOX and Friends that the doctor who said that he only had 3 month to live was only a general practitioner and not a Oncologist
Compassion had nothing to do with it.
The most amazing thing is that he was greeted as a hero in Libya. The city/country that supports vermin like this should be held responsible just like General Sherman held the citizens of the South responsible for supporting the Confederacy.
We should just inform these countries that you can support these terrorists and allow them to flourish and prosper if you want to, but if they attack us we will level your cities and destroy your infrastructure. You rebuild without our help. Take out the trash if you don’t want to return to the 7th century.
Okay—so now I’m dense—why did they release him?
May he rot in hell.
Hard to tell. If he is a muzzie, he’s probably getting aquainted with his 71 virgins.

I’m glad he’s really facing his reckoning now, but it still sucks that Zero threw Libya a victory by having this rodent released from jail. He should’ve died in solitary confinement.
Far, far past time that this happened.
But it should have been on a gallows...or on the receiving end of a hell fire missile.

My idea of compassion for that POS would be a bullet to the back of the head.

May his “71 virgins” be clones of Roseanne Barr, Rosie O’Donnell, and Moms Mabely. I applaud your death, you worthless killer.
After his last ‘prognosis’, I think I’d like a second opinion on this one...
Which just shows how much better Libyan doctors are than the NHS.
May his virgins look like the zombies in The Walking Dead.
...and another one bites the dust....

Anyone working for Kaddhafi deserved was coming to him, but I still wonder if he was guilty of that specific outrage:
A year or two after the bombing a number of articles appeared in the Sunday Times and other papers indicating that the terror action had been carried out by Palestinian groups (PFLP-GC was specifically mentioned) connected to Syria and Iran. At the time it seemed as clear cut a case as you can get In the murky world of spies and terrorists, and the State Dept was supposed to bring pressure on Syria.
But then Saddam invaded Kuwait, Mrs Thatcher performed the first ever back-bone transplant on a living President, and Syria suddenly became an ally in the war against Iraq.
Post-Gulf War I Baker and Bush Sr pushed the MidEast negotiations in Madrid where Syria was one of the pivotal partners. B & B could hardly force Shamir to carry out negotiations with a party that was responsible for one of the most dreadful terror attacks on the West (prior to 911), and the Syria track disappeared down the memory hole.
It is true that in late 2003 Libya acknowledged some sort of responsibility for the Lockerbie tragedy, but by that time US forces were in Baghdad, Saddam was on the run, and Libya was doing its utmost to get on the good side of the US government.
He should have hung by the neck until dead, but I see your point.
along with the Scotish PM who released him in exchanged for oil.
Dead is dead....and I’m doin’ a happy dance.
He’s actually going to get kin of sorts, 72 Helen Thomases for eternity.
How are those 72 virgins working for you pal?
“Roseanne Barr, Rosie ODonnell, and Moms Mabely.”
You left out Helen Thomas
I Hope it was a miserable and painful death.
God’s going to have a few plans for him I believe.
Good luck at the gates of Heaven you POS.
In short order the bones of someone less than human will rest in a grave where his family can visit and pay their last respects.
This is the most fundamental of human rights he denied to almost all, if not all of the 259 innocent human beings he casually killed that day in the name of Allah.
Their crime? It was being in the wrong place at the wrong time when a vile religious malcontent sought to strike out.
I won’t mention his name, because this vile and disgusting example of a human being doesn’t deserve the status of me or anyone else knowing his name. His remains and identity should vanish from the memory of mankind, only the deed and the root belief system that spurred him on to be remembered.
Evidently this, another sub-human like many before him, thought a lesson needed to be taught to the people of the United States. Well a lesson was learned alright.
Some of the followers of Allah can justify killing many innocent people in his name, and almost no followers of Allah at all will condemn the act. Perhaps only one person did this, I highly doubt it, but by their silence all the followers of the religion that drove this man, gave their shared approval.
Per chance it was something else driving them to silence, perhaps a fear that other devoted followers of the wondrous Allah would kill every member of their families too, if they dared speak up and object.
Some Western Christians thought even this, humanity’s and Allah’s poorest excuse for a man, deserved mercy at the time of his dying. This a sub-human follower who saw no need for mercy at the time of 259 other people’s dying.
If the acts of this sub-human were the honor that Allah loves to have heaped on him, then so be it. And so be eternity’s stark realization of that.
If these sub-human followers of Allah would spend 1/1000th as much time devising better ways for their fellow men to live, as they spend trying to destroy other people’s lives, this just might be a better world for their own people, let alone the rest of us.
And for that, Allah should probably be praised. And not until...
Thanks!
Not before forcing him to eat pork products and slathering him in bacon grease....lots of bacon grease.
How do we know???because his brother says so????HA!!!
Tell him to be sure and say "Hi" to Ted Kennedy when he gets there...
Are you calling me a pos?
No, the destruction of Pan Am 103 in 1988 was in response to the air strikes against Libya including Gaddafi compound in 1986.
Many years later the name of the man behind the bombing was found in the Stasi archives and eventually the Libyan, two Palis (surprise, surprise) and the wife of one of the Palestinian were convicted in Germany.
Correct. After I posted, I thought I should have included that.

"You are a vicious bastard Al-Megrahi, and, uh, I'm glad you're dead! Ha ha ha ha ha!"
May bacon grease be poured onto his grave.
