Yes, and if I remember correctly it was Ronald Reagan who sent Khadafy a little Christmas present in reponse.

No, the destruction of Pan Am 103 in 1988 was in response to the air strikes against Libya including Gaddafi compound in 1986.

And the attack on Gaddafi's compound in 1986 was i response to a bombing of a discotheque in Berlin, killing 3 persons among those two US soldiers. A message congratulating the perps to a job well done between Libya and the Libyan embassy in East Berlin was intercepted.

Many years later the name of the man behind the bombing was found in the Stasi archives and eventually the Libyan, two Palis (surprise, surprise) and the wife of one of the Palestinian were convicted in Germany.

Actually it was in retalliation for the downing of the iranian airbus by the USS Vincennes in 1988.

Libya’s response to Eldorado Canyon was the September 1986 hijacking of Pan Am flight 73

The iranian/hezbollah attempt was foiled two months before the bombing when German Police seized a Toshiba radio packed with Semtex (the exact same style bomb that was used on PA103). The libyans were asked to use their network in Malta to smuggle the bomb onto a U.S. bound flight.
