A proposed resolution to commend the Boy Scouts of America on its 102nd anniversary died today in an Assembly committee because the measure did not urge the group to accept gays and lesbians.
Instead, the Assembly Judiciary Committee passed a separate resolution that applauded the Boy Scouts but said its policy against accepting homosexuals is harmful and discriminatory -- and should be reconsidered.
The measure that passed, crafted by committee Chairman Mike Feuer, D-Los Angeles, encouraged the group to "accept for membership and leadership positions all qualified boys and men, without discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation or religious beliefs."
Assemblyman Mike Morrell, R-Rancho Cucamonga, wrote the resolution that died in the committee by a party-line vote, supported by Republicans. He said he simply wanted his Assembly Concurrent Resolution 94 to commend the group for its many good deeds, not to make the issue political.

And your help! If you can, find your local Scout office and find out how you can help build the program in your area.
Money is not a cureall, we need good, honest men and women to help these boys become men of good moral character built upon a solid foundation of good values.
The boys need to be mentored, coached and counseled by men of good character otherwise the program will die. No amount of money can save it if there aren't good men willing to stand up and serve the Scouts.
“the Assembly Judiciary Committee passed a separate resolution that applauded the Boy Scouts but said its policy against accepting homosexuals is harmful and discriminatory — and should be reconsidered”
That’s kinda weird. As if SCOTUS finally asserted 2nd amendment rights apply to the states, but added as obiter dictum, “Although we hate it and it sucks and wish gun owners would die and go to hell.”
Archery targets and they could use them for their Eagle scout projects if they need to block floodwater....
I concur with “South Park”’s Big Gay Al: the BSA is a private organization that government should not coerce to change its religion-based views on homosexual behavior. Folks who disagree can and should join, or form, other youth service organizations.
Super!
Exactly. The BSA rightly does not want their own version of the pedophile priest scandal that happened in the Roman Catholic Church.
So true! Why don’t they just start gay boy scout troops and stop trying to force the acceptance of their lifestyle on young boys learning how to be young men.
Before BSA made the rule they had their own Catholic church lawsuit moment in the 1980’s. They were looking the other way until some men who were abused as boys came after them in court.
Banning the perverts was a part of their reform to protect boys in the future. They have other adult interaction rules to protect the boys from sexual predators, too. There are a lot of lesbos involved in the girl scouts. Bet they are having a blast. They enjoy getting the girls to do each other.
Actually the BSA did have a huge homosexual pedophile scandal which is why the instituted their policy. They realized that sending sending pederasts into the woods with young boys was not a good idea.
Can’t remain morally straight with members of the pervert parades around them trolling for fresh butt.
Why don’t the Boy Scouts want homosexual males to go camping with young boys?
The same reason why the Girl Scouts don’t want heterosexual males to go camping with young girls.
Why is this so hard to understand?
Willful stupidity?
The BSA should reject their resolution, with no apology.
Yes, wise people exercise discrimination and are even ....gasp....judgmental in nearly every facet of their lives.
The Left has obfuscated and intimidated normal people so that they are afraid to exercise their normal observations and common sense. This is particularly the case when it comes to aberrant and immoral behavior.
Excellent article. Thank you.
Everything is political to me also. My automobile purchases are political (I am reluctant to buy UAW products and will boycott GM and Chrysler forever because of the corrupt bailout). My few restaurant meals are political (I don't eat in restaurants owned by Obama voters, and I know which ones those are). My banking is political (I closed my accounts with TARP banks and do not take checks drawn on those banks). Even my shopping is political (I cut way back on optional purchases and intend to minimize my economic activity until after the election to avoid contributing to an appearance of economic success for the socialist in our White House). We need to play that game like the far left does, and we'll play it better because we work for a living and understand money.
isn’t there still “freedom of association”?
I believe have; it's called "NAMBLA".
When a new boy joined our troop, after a few weeks his dad told me that his wife still wasn’t sure of things. I reminded him that I’ve had about 15 criminal background checks for being a Scout leader and several other things. He told me a week later that that single comment greatly eased her mind.
Being careful with the kids is always top of mind.
Last week, while out on a hike, another new scout was a little too timid to ask for a stop to water down a tree. He didn’t quite make it. In view of the other leaders but not the scouts, he was getting cleaned up and getting his boots back on after crossing a creek. I suggested that I “accidentally” spill some water on his pants and publicly take the blame for it. He couldn’t stop laughing. I used a poor choice of words when I said “This will just be our secret.”
As soon as we got back, I pulled his mom aside, told her of it and that my choice of words wasn’t the best. She laughed too.
Excellent story, and handled in an exemplary manner by you.
Still, I find it sad that we have to tiptoe so carefully these days.
The fruit of a society that we have allowed to be taken over by lawyers.
In the end, all of the North American Man/Boy Love Association members are arrested. Cartman backhandedly apologizes to his friends (including Butters) for almost getting them raped, saying that they will "blossom into maturity someday." The leader of NAMBLA says that he learned that America is "about the freedom to be whatever you want to be, be it black, gay, or a pedophile, and that pedophiles cannot choose to be attracted to boys, they're born that way." Kyle, thoroughly disgusted, retorts, "Dude. You have sex with children!" and Stan adds, "Yeah, you know, we believe in equality for everybody, and tolerance, and all that gay stuff, but dude, f*** you!"
