Firearms purchases booming in Wisconsin
Milwaukee J-S ^ | 06 may 2012 | Joe Taschler

Americans are arming themselves like never before, and Wisconsin is smack in the center of the trend.

Firearms-related businesses in the state say they are hard-pressed to meet demand, which they say is being generated by factors ranging from Wisconsin's concealed carry law to presidential politics.

"It's incredible," said Steve Lauer, owner of Lauer Custom Weaponry, a manufacturer of firearms, firearm coatings and accessories in Chippewa Falls. "We can hardly keep up."

Precise figures on firearms sales don't exist. But based on the number of calls made to the FBI and Wisconsin Department of Justice for background checks related to firearms purchases, more guns are being sold this year than ever.

The number of calls to Wisconsin's handgun hotline set a record in February, with nearly 16,000 calls. So far this year, the hotline has handled more than 53,000 calls. That's on pace to far eclipse 2011, when the hotline handled just shy of 90,000 calls for the full year.

With the FBI NICS system in place, why does Wisconson feel it necessary to have their own version?

Local gun shops here in the Chicago metro suburban area are packed with new customers especially on weekends.

Unintentionally funny, in that these “journalists” would never dream of fact checking the ridiculous assertions by Brady.

“With increasing gun ownership, the number of helpless little kittens, puppies and baby ducks with big, sad eyes, being stomped by sadistic gun owners wearing dirty overalls and steel toed racist boots with cleats while they guzzle beer and belch and laugh maniacally has skyrocketed!”

--Wisconsin is becoming the shining example of concealed carry--absolutely no problems with the permittees, no shootouts in the streets and on the highways or any of the other negatives still harped on by the detractors.

--will be interesting to see in a year or so if the crime rate vis-a-vis mugging , robberies, etc., is affected, as I suspect the media will try and keep track of it----

Hell, yes. Gun sales in Wisconsin are way up because of:

a. to a lesser extent, the new carry law, and

b. to a greater extent, because Wisconsites are waking up and realizing that the Republicans are not going to save them from a second Obama term. And they're very afraid of what Dear Leader will do once he no longer has to worry about getting re-elected.

Of course, this is all purely academic for me, because I lost all my guns in a terrible duck hunting accident years ago. They sank in the deepest part of the deepest lake around here. Honest.

I used to live near Green Lake. Near you? ;)

I suffered a similar accident so I can sympathize with your loss.
