Jack Hoogendyk dedicated to protecting women, children, families (Letter)
Michigan Live ^ | April 26, 2012 | Jamie Hope

I would like to address the constituents of the 6th Congressional district of Michigan regarding the 2012 election. As the former legislative director for Concerned Women for America of Michigan, it is my pleasure to enthusiastically endorse Jack Hoogendyk for Congress.

I had the honor of working with Hoogendyk when he was a representative for the Michigan Legislature. As the chief of staff for the former chair of the Family and Children Services Committee, I witnessed Hoogendyk’s dedication and passion for protecting women, children and families. There are many important issues affecting families in the Michigan that often go unreported in the media.

When Jack Hoogendyk was in office, he cared for and gave just as much attention to those issues while many politicians focused on issues that would give them the most media exposure. This is the kind of leader we need in Congress.

As a woman, I understand how important it is to elect a leader that will stand strong protecting women, children and families. Hoogendyk does not support what is popular, he supports what is right. He will not waiver to appease a poll or to be elected. This is a critical time for our nation; we cannot afford "business as usual" politicians. When Hoogendyk is elected he will not act as a "prom king" politician, he will be a servant to the 6th Congressional district of Michigan.

This is a clear case of conservative vs. RINO in a safe Republican district.

I wouldn’t call it a “safe” Republican district, but it’s certainly conservative enough to elect and reelect someone like Hoogendyk.

I wouldn’t call any district with Kalamazoo and Benton Harbor safe, but Jack Hoogendyk has won swing districts before. He can hold this district.

The candidate with a funny name.

I’m in the 7th district but would love to see a friendly face next door.

A Michigander thinks a Dutch name is funny? Methinks you need to eat some more oliebollen.

By the way, I'm originally from Grand Rapids and a Calvin graduate. The last place I lived in Michigan was the Overisel community to the south of Holland, but that was a dozen years ago.

I’ve read Hoogendyk is leaving Michigan for 3 days to help Mourdock in Indiana. Weird.

Well, at least he knows how important that Senate race is in neighboring IN, and he has time to spare (the MI primary isn’t until August, and Mourdock can come in and repay the favor to Hoogendyk).

The MI primary isn’t until August. And if Mourdock wins (and I think he will), Mourdock might reciprocate by campaigning for Hoogendyk in MI-06. So I think this is a pretty smart move for Hoogendyk, not to mention that it shows him to be a true conservative unafraid to take on the establishment (in case anyone had any doubt).

That’s interesting. I hope they both are in Congress next year.
