It works much the same here in Texas. Even the average Republican Primary voter is not very well informed. Any middle of the ground candidate, with substantial resources for advertising, can win the Republican Primary. It is sad for me to say this, but if the Texas Primary were held today, I think Romney would win. Most voters go with name recognition and association with a perceived front-runner.

Yep, we used to have a state treasurer named Jesse James...why?...because people thought the name sounded familiar.
