President Nicolas Sarkozy's camp insisted Thursday that France's election race was far from over as the top candidates sought to lure a large number of undecided and apathetic potential voters. Despite his strong and persistent lead in the opinion polls, Socialist frontrunner Francois Hollande urged voters to show up for Sunday's first round, worried that a low turnout could benefit Sarkozy. "It is in these next hours that many in France will make their choice. I can see that there is still some hesitation on whether or not to go out to vote," Hollande told AFP in an interview. "My approach is clear: to convince voters in order that the first round carries the second," he said. Polls show French voters are set to turn their backs on Sarkozy after a single five-year term and choose Hollande in Sunday's first round of the presidential vote and a run-off two weeks later. But they also show a large portion of voters remain undecided -- nearly one in four according to an OpinionWay-Fiducial poll released Wednesday -- and Sarkozy's spokeswoman said the election was still up in the air. "The pollsters themselves say they have never seen such an uncertain campaign with so little time to go," Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet told the Direct Matin newspaper. "The proportion of voters who say they could change their minds is extremely high," she said. The right-wing president's aides have said he needs a victory in the first round to reverse his poll deficit before the May 6 run-off. But, with three days to go before the vote, most polls show Hollande, a 57-year-old moderate Socialist with no government experience, ahead in the first round and the clear favourite in the second.

Stay informed about the French elections in detail.
It isn’t looking good for Sarko in some polls, but the high number of undecideds, switchers, and stay at homers, make anything possible.
Hollande is anything but a “moderate” Socialist, as AFP calls him in this article. True, he has never held a real job or had any government experience, but he has been President of the Socialist Party for 10 years.
A word of warning to our French friends.
Nothing good has ever come from Socialism-it has failed everywhere it has been tried.
“Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of ignorance, its inherent virtue, the equal sharing of misery”
Winston Churchill
Sarkozy has this in the bag.
Bookmarked.
Shocking. 28% for the “moderate” socialist. 16% for the fascist, 15% for the Communist.

What a disappointment the French people face if they elect a Socialist.
Apparently the French do not like something Sarkozy did to them, or failed to do for them, so they will vote for someone with a 100% chance of failure. So be it!
As the mother of Forrest Gump told him, "Stupid is as stupid does!"
I’m just wondering how the French can vote for looms. And would the outcome be fruit of the looms?
Given what is happening in the PIGS, I can’t believe that the French people would elect someone who wants to follow those same policies..
Thanks Cincinna.
The French never seem to learn the lessons of history!
The hatred against Sarkozy has been ginned up by the international left joining together with Myslim organizations in France to mobilize the “yoots” to vote fir the socialist, Hollande. Obama has also trained Hollande’s people who are using his campaign tactics and slogans from 2008.
This alliance of Islam and the far left is very frightening. David Horowitz wrote about it in one of his books.
do I read this correctly? He is a little behind the leftist because the right splintered, but I would expect that in the runnoff the right with line up behind him?
I dont think they will jump to the left, however they could stay home.
Any Francophiles out there who can enlighten us?
