It looks like Sarah Palin is planning to attend the Republican National Convention in Tampa this August — or is at least planning to be in the general vicinity.

This could be that she is just hedging her bets. Romney could have it all locked up by the time of the convention, but something could happen. This does indicate she is not pursuing a third party bid.
Of course Palin will be at the convention. She is ABO and will have a prime time speaking slot.

Before she dropped out, around the time she was making that bus tour, I believed she said that she would PREFER to run as a Republican. But she left a third party bid open.
If, as looks increasingly probable, Romney gets the nod, then the GOP is, frankly, defunct, and third party will be the only choice. Or, to use a more optimistic term for it, a new second party will be the only choice.
I'll vote against O whatever happens. But I agree, if Romney is the best this party has to offer, I'm in the wrong party.
I've said several times, if Romney is the nominee and loses to O, the party breaks. And if he wins, it may break anyway.
Either way, I personally am in the wrong party and plan to do something about it.
The convention is in August. That is too late for a third party bid. If Romney gets the nomination and loses then a third party is definitely possible unless a revolution happens first.
First, Palin never dropped out. She was never a candidate, Fox News had discussions with her through the summer and never felt she would be a candidate, and ultimately Sarah declined to run.
But she left a third party bid open.
No she didn't. She was absolutely clear that there is no consideration of a 3rd party - at least not for this election cycle. She has said that it would guarantee Obama's re-election.
Palin is ABO and will support and campaign for Willard - just like Santorum, Newt, Perry, Cain, etc, etc, will.

Not really. PAC money is used to attend all sorts of events. Considering she has a speaking slot, it seems on par.
I think we all need to quit hoping for change in regards to an outsider at the convention. IF there is a brokered convention, the brokering will be done between the delegates on the floor- those delegates will come from and be loyal to the candidates that brought them.
In other words, the brokering will still be between the delegates for Newt, Romney, and Santorum. An outsider won’t be in the position to have brought delegates to the floor. They may have fans in the crowd, but fans don’t have votes at the convention.

The Democrats have an operation to run a third party candidate, to split the opposition. See http://www.americanselect.org/ A couple of high-powered Democrat campaign consultants have ben working this for the party (I think Doug Schoen).
They will be on the ballot in all 50 states, and will pick the best spoiler they can get, according to candidate availability and the situation/polling as close to the election as they can get. If conservatives are disgruntled/rebellious enough to defect in numbers great enough to swing the election (it might only be needed in a few swing states), they will get the best conservative they can who is willing to be a spoiler.
Don’t fall for their trap, allowing Obama to pack the Supreme Court, bankrupt the nation and disarm us.
Conservatives need 50% of the votes plus 1 to win (figure on 52% with fraud and recounts). To form a coalition that big, our natural allies are the Republican Party. Falling for divisiveness is to surrender the future to those employing a divide and conquer strategy. Remember Reagan’s 11th commandment: Thou shall speak no ill of a fellow Republican.
There hasn’t been a sitting President since before FDR who won reelection after experiencing a serious primary challenge.
The threat of such, and laying it out now, is IMHO a valid and workable check on Mittens returning to his old ways should Conservatives hold their noses and support him in an ABO scenario. So long as the one(s) making the threat are trusted Conservatives and there are other clear indicators (like who he picks as his veep) that he plans to go against his past track record and govern from the right.
